Why would you buy that? You're just getting less than the iPhone.
Galaxy s5 has better specs than the iPhone 5s. I'm not talking about money versus value.
I don't think specs are entirely relevant to the average phone user - I certainly wouldn't go off comparing it when an average joe asks me for a phone recommendation "well this one has 4gb of ram and is clocked at 2.4ghz" "oh.... well does it look good?" "well it looks like an oversize melted iphone, really" "I don't want that"

Again, I'm asking how that's a bad thing. I don't know what to ascribe this mentality that being financially well off is bad to. It's insane. If someone wants to pay $650 because they want the absolute best hardware what's wrong with them doing so? Nobody here would ever say such a thing about buying a better computer, but apparently for phones it's the opposite mentality.

Think you missed what I was quoting.
the quoted post in the quoted post is talking about hardware in regards to build quality so it's kind of relevant, i guess
I've had both an iPhone 4 and a Galaxy S3. They're both good phones and both did their jobs (sorta. i dropped my galaxy lately and the mic stopped working (it was a nasty drop)). I customized my iPhone and I've customized my S3 and both have run great and not really faltered. The only issue comes up with App support. Facebook is STILL a glitchy mess on Android when it runs fine on iOS. Aside from that, support from both has been fine, getting things to work is usually fine with some finetuning on either side, and ease of use has been more or less the same. So yeah, who cares which phone is slightly more powerful or useful than the other when at the end of the day things like Bioshock on the phone are little more than distractions as opposed to the proper way to play a game of that magnitude.
I think the original point of this argument has been lost if none of us know what we're even responding to or arguing for or against.
I think the original point of this argument has been lost if none of us know what we're even responding to or arguing for or against.
The summary of this thread is that two factions of morons have persecution complexes over phone and lifestyle choices.
Bioshock is a great game but I'm not sure why they're marketing a 'serious game for serious gamers' port to mobile when 'serious gamers' have probably already played it, and non-'serious gamers' probably aren't interested in taking their 8 hour long, tightly controlled linear saga to-go. It's very cool as a statement of technological progress, though, and it's understandable to deploy to iOS first because there are probably more iOS users than higher-end-android-phone users.
Bioshock is a great game
imo Bioshock is one of the most overrated games of all time probably. Gameplay was really weak.
It was a decent enough game. Nothing that blew my mind, though. I only ever wanted to play it once, truth be told.
imo Bioshock is one of the most overrated games of all time probably. Gameplay was really weak.
I disagree because it was one of the last high-presence linear shooters in which exploration and backtracking meant anything, was set in a fresh and interesting environment, and utilized things other mechanics than 'aim down sight and shoot' having said that, I also only played it once, but I think its reputation as a fond memory of 2007 is fairly well deserved (along with crysis and stalker)
No you can't. You cannot pirate apps on iOS without activating your UDID to sideload IPA files or jailbreaking. That group is insignificant compared to the entire iOS install base.
I haven't used an iPhone since the 3g, but I remember it being possible to pirate. is the UDID thing some weird anti piracy/jailbreaking thing?
Speaking of fps games on iOS and eventually Android, this exists
imo Bioshock is one of the most overrated games of all time probably. Gameplay was really weak.
I heavily disagree, I think the game play was fun and it varied a lot.
I just want to point out also that as far as mobile games go, San Andreas mobile actually worked out pretty well in the end.
Galaxy s5 has better specs than the iPhone 5s. I'm not talking about money versus value.
Specs don't really mean much when comparing those phones because iPhones will always be significantly more optimised due to iOS and iOS apps being designed for specific hardware. Android has a lot more overhead due to the nature of it having to run on so many different hardware configurations, so even with the seemingly better specs of the S5 on paper, the 5s still outperforms it. Also with Metal coming for iOS 8, games are getting even lower level hardware access, making it a lot better for gaming.
imo Bioshock is one of the most overrated games of all time probably. Gameplay was really weak.
I don't think it was overhyped, save for Infinite. And in my opinion, BioShock's strong points aren't in its gameplay, but rather, in its story. [sp]I think the "Would you kindly?" plot twist is positively genius writing. Taking the concept of linier gameplay where you obviously can't progress unless you complete the task at hand and twining that into the story line was a nifty idea, and very well done, as well as it feeling (in my opinion) quite subtle up until the actual reveal. I'd say it's the video game equivalent of "Luke, I am your father" in terms of plot twists.[/sp]
I don't see how it's fair to compare an iPhone 5s to one specific Android phone when there's many more out there. If you're not worrying about price, the Galaxy has much better hardware than the 5s.
hardware meaning raw CPU and GPU speed? maybe, but that phone has an OS that doesn't take advantage of those things, on top of horrible build quality and aesthetics the 5s still beats out the newer Galaxy s5 in CPU, and isn't far off (better in some areas) than the GPU in the s5. [editline]5th August 2014[/editline]
I actually never heard about Metal, that's pretty cool of them.
it's not included in iOS until when 8 releases sometime later this year
I heavily disagree, I think the game play was fun and it varied a lot.
How did it vary? There were some good change ups combat wise like the Big Daddies, but most of the gameplay felt very repetitive and boring.
Galaxy s5 has better specs than the iPhone 5s. I'm not talking about money versus value.
Actually the 5s wrecks the s5 in every area except the display, where it loses in luma resolution and ties in chroma resolution due to the 1920x1080 panel using an RGBG matrix. For battery the s5 pulls somewhat ahead out of the box depending on what you're testing (platform power is not consistent on phones) but the minute you put on any app that runs in the background for push notifications you'll never actually see 10hrs of continuous web browsing. Stop comparing specs from a spec sheet, aren't Android users supposedly the more tech-savvy ones? Despite Apple's A7 being a 1.3GHz dual core the Cyclone architecture is ridiculous, it's a 6-wide design and it still beats everything that has ever been put in an Android phone despite having been around for nearly a year. The 5s camera also beats the s5 in most objective reviews, with the s5 using 1.1 micron pixels and a native 16:9 sensor. It just ends up having to go to higher ISO and you get more noise. It's not really any surprise that Samsung has moved back to Sony sensors again. This isn't the first time someone in this thread has claimed Android phones are at the top for hardware. Do people just do clock speed * cores = performance? And battery mAh = battery life? It doesn't work that way. Things aren't based in MHz and how things perform in the real world is not software agnostic. [editline]5th August 2014[/editline]
I haven't used an iPhone since the 3g, but I remember it being possible to pirate. is the UDID thing some weird anti piracy/jailbreaking thing?
It was never possible to pirate apps without jailbreaking. You can't sideload apps on iOS. You UDID is a unique identifier for your iOS device. If you get it dev activated the idea is that since you're a developer you'll sideload your own apps that you're making. It's not intended for app piracy and it's $99/yr to register as an iOS dev so it's not feasible for most users. I just mentioned it as a possibility.

A good story means little if the gameplay is very bland.
It isn't all that bland, really. The plasmids allowed for some decently varied play styles (I went 100% stealth wrench, for instance,) and each chapter was different enough to make it interesting.
The shotgun in Bioshock 1 is so damn satisfying to use. The animations have wonderful kick and the smoke that comes out of the barrel is just plain gorgeous. I think it's time to visit ol' Rapture again.
