hardly, I don't think you read anything I said. your entire argument was basically that punjab is just as much of a shithole as other parts of India, which it really isn't, and that is anything anyone could tell you that has actually been there
of course by the sounds of it you've never even been anywhere near it so your opinion is honestly pretty moot to me.
oh and as if rape isnt under reported in the united states either, did you not see archangels post? statistics say america is just as bad of an offender, if not worse
asshole
Behold: The brigade of armchair experts.
Some of us have actually visited and lived there.

i never called india a shithole fucking christ
i dont want to stereotype india because its a really cool place
of course rape is under-reported in the united states, that doesn't change anything about india. would you use the same boneheaded argument if i was criticizing rape in africa?
asshole
give me a reason why im an asshole? did i insult you, put words in your mouth, or berate you with my anthropology elective? nop
punjab's problems with women are very well documented, and you havent done anything to prove contrary besides insult me
like i said prove me wrong, educate me:
rape and domestic abuse are terribly under-reported in punjab, and women barely hold leadership positions
are rape and domestic abuse NOT under-reported in punjab to a far large degree than the united states? are women NOT institutionally discriminated against?
hardly

I'm protecting the notion that idiots like you

Of course you wouldn't know, you just read the opinions of foreigners with no real first hand experience on the internet

You're looking like a really good example of those people that have presumptions based off information you read yet no first hand experience.

tired of getting trolled, you win, my entire family and friends and everyone I know are rapists and abus e women
Your anecdotes mean nothing in the face of actual evidence. Anecdotes through rose-tinted goggles mean even less.
i mean i personally know at least 10 indians, four of them being women, one of them being a sikh from punjab.
you wanna talk anecdotes i can give you a couple from them and they won't paint a nice picture
Your anecdotes mean nothing in the face of actual evidence. Anecdotes through rose-tinted goggles mean even less.
I fear that evidence that is quite so biased isn't really evidence. And nobody can deny that the trend of reporting of sexual assault in India recently by Western news (and almost nothing else) is biased as all hell.

and anecdotes from one person arent biased? pfff

Your anecdotal visit doesn't mean much from cold hard statistics. My uncle when he was on leave from Kuwait and he said there was a lot of issues with women begging for help. It works both ways really and relies off of personal experiences.

Why? Does western media have some sort of hatred of India? It's usually indifference.

Kuwait isn't actually in India, man. http://www.distancefromto.net/distance-from/Kuwait/to/India
Unless he went to India while on leave from Kuwait? I'm not really clear on what you're trying to say here.

It's in vogue. The original gang-rape was fairly shocking and heavily publicized in international news, causing a lot of attention to go towards India, at least until the media gets bored with that. Given the difficult time India seems to be having with Women's Rights through its history, it's a bit strange that these sexual assaults are only being heavily reported *now* and not say, earlier. Because I can guarantee I heard a lot worse on the news than this, years ago.
My own opinion is this: when you have a country with 1.2 billion people and you have a one in a million chance of something horrible happening... lots of horrible things are going to happen.
maybe the reason that india has so many issues for women is because there are lots of people wiling to dismiss it or say "WELL ITS JUST GONNA HAPPEN *blows raspberry*"
maybe the reason that india has so many issues for women is because there are lots of people wiling to dismiss it or say "WELL ITS JUST GONNA HAPPEN *blows raspberry*"
I wouldn't mind so much if it encouraged people all over the world to look at woman's rights and how they are treated. Instead, local woman's issues are just going to be swept under the rug as they say, "Well, at least we're not India."
And then blowing raspberries, as it were.
Why? Does western media have some sort of hatred of India? It's usually indifference.
No, I wouldn't say hatred. Still, such selective reporting usually means they want to cast it in a certain light.
I'll put this in perspective for all of you. China is a country in which over 1.4 billion people reside. The government, anxious to make everything look fine, denies its people basic civil liberties you in the USA take for granted, and carefully hides all the stories of ill that goes on in that country.
Given the huge population there, it's totally understandable the government will take an authoritarian approach, because the logistics of managing such a huge number of residents is a nightmare.
Now India is determined to remain what it is - A secular democracy. It is the most populous democracy in the world, with more than a seventh of the world's population living in it; however, until recently, corruption was so bad that many outlying villages did not have any significant government presence. Many people in those villages still live rather primitively, and as a result, the country as a whole has many, many languages and literally hundreds of dialects. There is no overarching 'Indian culture' as so many of you morons have been pretending - Even within the Hindu religion itself there are hundreds of sects with dramatically different beliefs.
So what you're seeing now, with India's economic growth, is an influx of the uneducated people from those villages into the big cities, hoping to make something of themselves. Some resort to criminal activity when they find that prosperity isn't so easily gained when you've got to complete with another hundred million people or so.
It is this element that are most often the perpetrators of sexual assault in India. Things are changing, but the cultural clashes will take some time to resolve.
I never denied that there was a problem in the country. I remarked that by comparison in Western media, and ESPECIALLY on Facepunch, the vast amount of sexual assault that happened in western countries, and especially the USA, was very, very underrepresented.
Go on. Refute that.

I'm saying that he was on leave from Kuwait (served in 1991) and decided to take a trip to Mumbai.

considering how many times ive been insulted i cant help but feel this is addressed to me again

yeah duh
but that doesnt make women's plight in india any better so i dont see the relevancy

This conversation doesn't help women's plight in India, either? I just want to point out that it's a tad hypocritical to hold one nation to standards that your own doesn't adhere to. Or that it deserves to be tarred with a single brush. Or that Indians themselves are somehow unaware women's rights issues in this country, and that they need enlightened white dudes to point it out for them.

i meant it doesnt make it anymore positive. i dont feel relieved about india's problems when someone points out that other places are bad too.

find me a thread about rape in england and you'd find me being just as angry

many indians are very much aware, and they should have the support of the whole international community. dismissal, accusation of western media bias, or referring to other nations is not support
(Also is the shift key broken on your keyboard?)
no i just dont care to use it
