Did you not see the part where it says he ordered them to stop at gunpoint? Even if he wasn't armed, imagine being out that late and all of a sudden a figure emerges out of the darkness and comes toward you.

Word against word with that currently, and I don't exactly trust the word of someone raising a gun on someone unprovoked in public space.
I think its proper procedure not to tell people you're interviewing what the other person said, so the kids being interviewed not mentioning even seeing the guy (they claimed to hear gunshots and took off) is pretty telling of the dude's honesty, probably just saying that so the cops didn't think hes a shithead and book him for open firing on a car for no real cause

I thought they saw him coming from the house and they tried to run him over.
Nope, according to the shooter's account he jumped infront of them and pointed a gun yelling before they floored it, and by the kids account they heard gunshots and took off
