• Sweden's Ice Hotel told to get fire alarms

In addition to the smoke issue and heat-related structural integrity issue, anybody who passed high school chemistry should remember at least one situation wherein ice produces flammable fuel because of exposure to other substances.
do you even know what you're talking about fire alarms arent magical devices that put out a fire, they're an emergency warning which is kind of important if something like a fucking fire is happening
Its not just fire though, it could be useful in any sort of emergency. It is as you say just an emergency warning, it could be trigged by fire or manually for another sort of emergency. Makes perfect sense for a hotel to be required by law to have an alarm system just in case. [editline]15th November 2013[/editline]
The problem isn't fire the problem is smoke, a burning chair or something would create a tremendous amount of toxic smoke and while it may not affect the structure if anyone sleeping were to breathe it in, they would die instantly.
You have hit the nail on the head, the issue is the fact its a hotel and people are asleep inside of it.
woah what a pose
I spent way too long making this.
Makes sense, if there is a fire, they can go put it out quickly before it causes significant damage to the ice
woah what a pose
caution sign drawings are genuinely baffling sometimes. especially when you consider someone got paid for them. this is the sign at all of my city's tram stops [t]https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/76308_10151429123683554_875351421_n.jpg[/t] who walks like that?
I spent way too long making this.
add a rotating discoball, some flashing lights, perhaps an afro while you are at it
I spent way too long making this.
These signs always make me think of this. Especially yours.
I read the title as Snowden's ice hotel and I was just like wtf
add a rotating discoball, some flashing lights, perhaps an afro while you are at it
I'm too lazy just use blingee
add a rotating discoball, some flashing lights, perhaps an afro while you are at it
the database is down are you
Yeah, I'm just going to drop this right here.
Wouldn't sprinklers and stuff in case of fire be very bad aswell? Seeing as ice kinda melts when it touches water...or am I wrong?
What's better, room temperature water or 400c+ fire?
What's better, room temperature water or 400c+ fire?
Or drowning. Entire hotel collapsing. Possibly even on you. I'd take neither.
Bearing in mind that there is so much ice that it's pretty hard to melt the whole thing in the short term, smoke inhalation would be an absolutely huge threat, especially with no system to wake people up in the event of a fire elsewhere in the building. I'm actually surprised it didn't already have fire alarms. Fires would also cause huge structural integrity issues depending on where they are located, due to the spike of heat in one area. If that's low down, you could be in a whole lot of trouble. I imagine the ice would literally crack in the heat at parts, melting rapidly at parts and not so much at others, rather than melt smoothly. I'm sure if you've ever de-iced a freezer, you'll notice the way that it drips at first, then clumps of ice fall down if you apply direct heat. Really wouldn't want that happening with people inside. Hell, the uni halls I am in have two fire doors rated for 30 minutes each between me and the kitchen. We're still crawling with alarms, for the fact that you want people out before the smoke gets to them.
the database is down are you
Get down right now!
