But still not as much of a tragic mess as the political correctness in today's academia.
Political correctness doesn't exist dude. It's fucking made-up. What in the article leads you to believe this a result of "political correctness gone mad!"? One of the biggest buzzwords there is these days. What even /is/ political correctness? It's just a phrase people say without any further elaboration.

It's just a phrase people say without any further elaboration.
Merriam-Webster defines "political correctness" as
the avoidance, often considered as taken to extremes, of forms of expression or action that are perceived to exclude, marginalize, or insult groups of people who are socially disadvantaged or discriminated against.
While I do agree that it's become a huge buzzword, and is often used improperly, if the article is being upfront with us then it really is political correctness and little else. Plus, something a lot of people seem to be skimming over here is that he wanted a different counselor for the counselor's benefit and not necessarily his own. He wasn't 'afraid of Muslims' or anything similar, he didn't want to make her uncomfortable. Assuming that's what happened in its entirety, there's really no way to defend the school's actions here.
Political correctness is a dog-whistle word, it's not supposed to have a concrete meaning. What is the school doing here to avoid exclusion or marginalization? Nothing, in fact everyone has confused standard operating procedure for some specific targeting against an individual. You know as well as I do what the point of the word is; it's to call attention to the idea that maybe we're going "too far," that there is a normal limit and we've somehow "passed" it.
“The college itself is very supportive, there is just an ignorance toward veterans with PTSD and they are demonized so much by the media which led to confusion about what they [MC administrators] were dealing with,” Rawls said.
I find this ironic because obviously people didn't read the entire article and relied on the OP to provide the most important details in this news story. If people just read the title they would've said "What a fucking racist", if people just read the OP they would've said "Yeah if she was wearing a burka then I understand". This is exactly what happens in American media. People pushing their political agenda and reporting stories that fit their political agenda or creates controversy. It's disgusting because you see this a lot. They want you to become a soldier, but they hate you when you're a veteran asking for benefits/treatment for PTSD.
But still not as much of a tragic mess as the political correctness in today's academia.
Lol I think it was fine of him to request a different counselor because of his experiences but these posts are horrible, so very horrible.
special-snowflake-syndrome-induced PTSD.
I barely have fucking words, this is the polar opposite of "special-snowflake PTSD"
College has made an official statement http://www.mc.edu/20150526-release They claim it wasn't the counselor request that got him suspended. Not much else though.

But then some people in this thread are suggesting that the counselor is wrong for wearing her "traditional clothing" (which could mean a wide variety of clothing), and that's total bullshit.
ugh I hope you realize just how dumb this post is besides, even though ptsd is awful it doesnt justify his request, mainly because he should learn the differene between the enemy and someone who isn't ptsd isnt something you can fix overnight, true, but if this person has these kinds of association issues then he'd be better off receiving specialized therapy than continue to enable his fear
Note: Counselors are there for you, you're not there for them. It is completely within his right to request a new counselor and if you're suffering from something that has legitimate triggers, it is quite easy to access them if that person suffering is put in an environment with someone who forces them to relive their traumatic experiences without their saying to do so. In essence, he does not want to face those fears and traumas yet, but the school is so scared of the word racism that it instead marginalized him from preventing another marginalization when it could've been easily resolved by switching counselors. This isnt right as long as he politely and calmly tried to explain his situation. If he was like "nah fuck muslims" I'd understand but it doesnt seem like he did that
Its beautiful that all the voices inside can be quieted down to a whisper because something something political affiliation.
Yeah, atm this is a he said they said situation. The quotes by Rawls are real and he really does seem to believe it was due to the counselor request. College can't really give a full statement on this if it is medical related unless Rawls waives his right to privacy in this matter.
laying him off from their work program
Well, thats a quick way to get sued into oblivion
Why the fuck does America only use two letters for state codes?
Because that's all you need?
Why the fuck does America only use two letters for state codes?
Because the point is to have something short and quick to not spell out the whole name?
are they even allowed to do this? even if this was for political reasons, even if he wanted a different counsellor because he doesn't like muslims, can they really suspend him just for making a request?
are they even allowed to do this? even if this was for political reasons, even if he wanted a different counsellor because he doesn't like muslims, can they really suspend him just for making a request?
They can do whatever they want. Welcome to the U.S. where schools and businesses have more "rights" than the average citizen.
I barely have fucking words, this is the polar opposite of "special-snowflake PTSD"
Yes. Exactly what he was saying. 50% of the people in this thread are blind or some shit.
