Did selfie sticks even exist before the word selfie? To me it seems that nowadays if you give something a name, like planking and selifes, it'll spread like cancer and cause all kinds of bullshit.
Yes actually. back in 1995
Good. They're obnoxious. I was just at Disneyland yesterday and this oblivious girl was blocking the trash can with her selfie stick and I repeatedly said "Excuse me" and she just was in another world. People pay thousands of dollars to come and instead of enjoying the attraction they'd rather see it through a tiny screen.
I always thought selfie sticks were a gag gift for people too addicted to selfies. I never realized people are actually stupid enough to actually use them...
I can understand banning selfie sticks from rides, but why do so many people hate selfies?? I don't really get the hate of taking a pic of yourself
because people are narcissistic fucks with social media and the selfie is kinda iconic for that
I always thought selfie sticks were a gag gift for people too addicted to selfies. I never realized people are actually stupid enough to actually use them...
how dare people use things that are useful
Really? A bunch of sticks blocked your view of an entire fireworks show and a parade, or a group of people did? Because if you're complaining about a group of people at Disneyland...
They hold the sticks up in the air to record the parade. I wanna see the floats when I look up, not a patchwork of sticks. Plus my complaint isn't mine alone, as pointed out in the article:
The usage of selfie sticks outside of park attractions is still allowed in Walt Disney World even though a number of complaints have still been made. Inquisitr has found out recently that complaints about selfie sticks used during parades, fireworks, and stage shows have grown tremendously over the last few months. One Cast Member spoke with Inquisitr on the condition of anonymity back in February. “Guests are not happy that they will have found a place to watch the Wishes fireworks or Celebrate the Magic (Show on Cinderella Castle), and it’s a perfect view…but then a selfie stick goes right up in the air in front of their face.”
I mean I would say the fact it blocks views is probably the least of my worries.. what happens if someone extends this out in the middle of a ride and it hits a ride support? That's that equipment damaged, it could fly into the faces of anyone infront of it and cause SERIOUS injury, let alone if it hits somebody else. Thing's a fucking decapitation waiting to happen
Really? A bunch of sticks blocked your view of an entire fireworks show and a parade, or a group of people did? Because if you're complaining about a group of people at Disneyland...
are you really this numbskull-ed? because it seems his point flew several miles over your head. he's complaining about the thousands of dumbass sticks that block your view and i am more than certain that if it happened to you, you'd be pissed that you just spent over 200$ (plus food) just to see a bunch of sticks.
ban selfies please
god save us from people who want to take pictures of themselves.
The use of the word "selfie" is probably a disgrace to Noah Kalina, who's been taking images of himself ever since just after the start of the 2000s and got himself sort of YouTube famous with that "Everyday" video of his. [editline]8th April 2015[/editline] What the hell happened to just simply calling it "taking a picture of yourself" like we used to up until around 1-2 years ago? I think we can all agree though that selfie sticks are fucking stupid. Take the damn time to REACH OUT with your arm instead of using a stick out of all things to do it.
As silly as the word selfie is. I can see a use for the stick if you want a picture with more stuff in frame and you lack a third person. But man people really need to chill out with whipping those things out everywhere.
I can understand banning selfie sticks from rides, but why do so many people hate selfies?? I don't really get the hate of taking a pic of yourself
A bunch of people on facepunch get weirdly angry whenever stuff that is deemed 'normal' like using Facebook or watching sports is brought up, every thread on these topics you get people who come in and say stupid shit like "Facebook is dumb I don't need it, if I wanted to talk to my friends I'd text them" or "I don't get sports they're dumb, who cares about random people throwing balls." Banning selfie sticks on rides makes sense as they're dangerous but banning selfies? That's just pointless.
When I went to Disneyland a few weeks ago, a dude with a gopro on a selfie stick went on Thunder Mountain in front of me. It annoyed me, until it got smashed on a wall while banking.

And then there's these kind of people
You can see the next generation of conservatives in the making here
More like your average retiree.
Cant be that its annoying to others or even dangerous. No obviously nerd are juat mad they cant take selfies.
when's taking a selfie ever dangerous on its own [editline]9th April 2015[/editline]
hope you mean just selfies because selfie sticks are just annoying and distracting to everyone around them whereas selfies on their own usually aren't bad
well i never mentioned 'stick' in my post so
Imagine being that socially retarded you hate people who take photos of themselves.
i have never seen these before
Imagine being that socially retarded you hate people who take photos of themselves.
Imagine being so hypocritical that you hate on people for something just as insignificant as the thing you're calling them out on.
Why in the world would someone even bring this on a ride? It's so pointless..
I can understand banning selfie sticks from rides, but why do so many people hate selfies?? I don't really get the hate of taking a pic of yourself
I think its because it has an actual name and is given a big deal of attention
are you really this numbskull-ed? because it seems his point flew several miles over your head. he's complaining about the thousands of dumbass sticks that block your view and i am more than certain that if it happened to you, you'd be pissed that you just spent over 200$ (plus food) just to see a bunch of sticks.
oh no my disneyworld experience was TOTALLY ruined because there were a couple of sticks in my POV during the parade. it's not fair!!! *screeches*
i have never seen these before
I saw a few of them when I went to Disney World last summer. Didn't really bother me, just thought it was amusing.
went to a Slash concert last month Every fucking piece of shit people shoved their cellphone/camera/assstick on the bands face. Not only i felt embarrased but they wouldnt let you see with their arms up in the air trying to record the whole 2 hours i mean, what the fuck, either watch the concert from your house in a youtube video or go to the concert and watch it with your damn eyes instead of a 200x100 shit screen.
wait, so how do you actually take the picture with the selfie stick? is it marketed toward people with arms like Michael Jordan at the end of Space Jam?
So many people here mad at selfies. Are people not allowed to take an interest in their appearance because you don't like to do it yourself?
