I would like this idea more if Public Education teachers weren't so shit.
The point of concealed carry is that it's concealed. Nobody is supposed to know you have a gun.
If teachers having guns becomes a regular and legally regulated/required thing, then not knowing which of your teachers has a gun could be even scarier for some students. We're forgetting about a typical school setting where the point is to educate a bunch of anxious kids, and knowing that some of those teachers are carrying guns can really fuck some students up psychologically. The idea of having staff CC implies that there's a constant threat of gun violence at school all the time every day, and that's simply not true. It happens often, yes, but not everywhere all the time. There should be a better solution than giving weapons to educators in case of an event that statistically speaking will never happen letting guns in schools will just make it easier for someone suicidal to pull out their gun and shoot someone, only to get shot by someone else in defense. With guns not allowed, this almost never happens and the only shooting situations we have are niche and usually could be prevented by an armed guard. I wish it wouldn't have to come to that, but if we're putting guns in schools that's the place to put them.
Why not hire armed security guards and metaldetectors instead
At that point people would just start shooting up hospitals and malls or something.
At that point people would just start shooting up hospitals and malls or something.
Stupid excuse not to guard and secure schools.
If teachers having guns becomes a regular and legally regulated/required thing, then not knowing which of your teachers has a gun could be even scarier for some students.
Legally regulated and legally required are two very different things. I'm not saying that all teachers are required to have a gun, just that any teacher that has a concealed carry license, which requires a lot of evaluations to acquire in the first place, and acquired on their own time, shouldn't be punished for CC.
ah yes, the best way to solve gun crime: more guns!!
it may have a good point tho Imagine you are about to attack a person, say, get into a fist fight. Are you more likely to fight if he is bare handed, or if he pulls out a knife? Same thing here - i think people would less likely attack others if they are aware of the fact that someone will 100% pull out a gun and shoot in response at a short notice.
All of these shootings were premeditated though. It wasn't like the guy was lawfully armed and just snapped and killed 13 people. They planned and prepared. You guys acting like giving teachers guns is inviting teachers to start popping people. Guns don't corrupt people like that.
You obviously haven't been paying attention but the shooter in the college shooting was legally armed and purchased all thirteen guns of his legally so he was technically legally armed. He also lived with his parents who also knew he was mentally ill but didn't tell anyone that he had purchased thirteen guns. No matter how much you suger coat it, guns are one of the easiest ways to kill someone. I think more strict gun control laws should be made overall.
America you so crazy
exactly, hypocrisy is moving from candidate to candidate on single issues and not the overall ethics of their platform and character. you can't want to give teachers guns and seriously believe in a progressive candidate at the same time, it's utterly ridiculous.
Anyone can state good ideas, but it all boils down to how they execute those ideas. Obama's national high-speed railroad and alternative energy plan, despite sounding good, never came into fruition because they were poorly executed.

And if you look at how most rampages start the shooter managed to get a gun legally or from a family member that owned one.
America you so crazy
That's what happens when you don't have a good mental health care system. I don't even know if they even have one so for conversation I'm just talking out of my ass.
