you're stealing profit [editline]12:48PM[/editline]
This is not a good thing.
I agree. Piracy IS theft. This isn't about stealing a copy, but stealing the income. Do you really think company's can continue developing games or recording music if they earn no money?
you're stealing profit
Only if you were going to buy it but the decided to download it. They lose nothing if you were never going to buy it.
That's like walking into a grocery store and nick a bag of crisps, get caught and tell the police that you never wanted to buy it.
Well this was unexpected
Only if you were going to buy it but the decided to download it. They lose nothing if you were never going to buy it.
that could argued and abused for so many things If your only option to get that game is to buy it, then you would surely buy it if you had enough cash. But if you have a torrent in disposal, what's the point? You don't wanna spend money, it's not rare. You can just download it and keep your fifty bucks, no matter how good the game is. After all, you were never gonna buy it right? They lose noting.
That's like walking into a grocery store and nick a bag of crisps, get caught and tell the police that you never wanted to buy it.
No, because that implies that you're taking someone else's files. In actuality, it's more like someone buying a photograph (as most uploaders, as far as I've heard, actually purchase what they upload,) making a copy, and then giving it to all of your friends. Which is actually entirely legal. [editline]12:41PM[/editline]
This isn't about stealing a copy, but stealing the income.
No no no, it's about companies not making as much income as they would have if you bought their games.
what if someone sells photography for a living, then a buyer replicates all his photos and gives it away for free? should I able to copy the Source Engine and sell games made with it? I mean, I didn't steal the Source Engine, I merely copied it.
No, if you profit from copyrighted work, you get sued.
what if my livelihood was painting or taking a photo? what if my livelihood was making things people can replicate? how would I succeed if every work I made is replicated and given away for free when I intend to make a profit from it so I can buy food, pay rent, and etc.?
Do it for companies and sell stuff to them? That's how most painters, photographers work. Not a lot of people sell their stuff individually.
Do it for companies and sell stuff to them? That's how most painters, photographers work. Not a lot of people sell their stuff individually.
whats the point? If I sell painting and photographers to a person, that person buys it because they want to hang it up or some shit. they can just go ahead, replicate it, and hang it anywhere they want while giving it out for free. i dont mind people pirating(you shouldn't though, don't ban me mods), especially with ubisoft's DRM and MAFIAA suing everyone, but stop justifying it and pretending to be an internet crusader fighting for serious civil rights. its still wrong.
other countries should do this.
If they like and respect you or your work, they won't replicate it and give it out for free. And replica is never as good as the original, unless you sell copies of your work, in which case, there's not much difference.

You can deny this all you want, but you know it's true. Getting stuff for free is a easy way out, and human beings love the easy way out.

And a lot of them just can't.

I want to go to spain now.
Isn't Spain the only country where this is legal?

I love (by which I mean hate) this clouded vision of "piracy is sharing, not stealing". Where the fuck do you think the word piracy came from? Sharing would be "you can borrow this item of mine as long as you bring it back". You are taking and using something that isn't yours, you didn't pay for, etc. A company just lost a potential customer and a potential sale.
One small step for Spain, one big leap for Piratekind.
About time someone took a big shit on the music industry.
Where the fuck do you think the word piracy came from?
Just like how the phrase "Where the fuck" involves having sex in a location.
Just like how the phrase "Where the fuck" involves having sex in a location.
Fuck Fornication Under Consent of King :D
Because not everyone wants to pay 50$ for a 4-6 hour gameplay?
They are selling it for $50. I could sell my shit for $50. That doesn't give you the right to take my shit for free, just don't buy it. (Or use it if you're not going to pay for it)
This is not a good thing.
Facepunch disagrees. [editline]05:23PM[/editline] derp
Facepunch disagrees.
It's on decisions like these that I am glad the collective opinion of Facepunch doesn't matter.
Perfumly if Facepunch had an opinion in the world; nuclear weapons would of been already used for the War on Terror :P
Perfumly if Facepunch had an opinion in the world; nuclear weapons would of been already used for the War on Terror :P
And all people convicted of crimes proved guilty or not would be instantly shot in the head no questions asked.
And all people convicted of crimes proved guilty or not would be instantly shot in the head no questions asked.
And people who like Mac Computers would be hanged. Mentally Retarded people would be put into boxes. Christ I could keep going.
