That was so awkward.
I was watching Newswipe by Charlie Brooker last night, and one of his guests made the point of someone named Roy Jenkins. He was an MP in Britain, when he was elected or chosen for Home Secretary, in 1965 mind you, he pushed forward by decriminalizing being gay, legalizing abortion, abolished the death penalty, uncensored theatre, relaxed divorce law, and suspended hitting children in schools with sticks. People didn't trust him because he was part of the "elite", they certainly didn't like his new policies. I tie this to this election personally, because without people like Roy Jenkins, this world will never move forward. I'd rather try something new than go back to old and proven false and damaging ways. Which is strange because I hate change in my life, I'd rather stay home than go do something new. I might vote for Jill Stein, because my state is pretty heavily Dem, so I don't have to risk Romney.
Obama has leg room where it counts
Of course my state would be the only Romney one. North Carolina has a bad case of gerrymandering too, they regrouped Asheville (My hometown and a highly liberal city) into a Piedmont district despite being in the mountains and having other mountain communities further east not being reclassified. By reclassifying Asheville they made it extremely difficult for NC democrats to win in western districts and overall.

To the post below, here's a nice site to see all districts. http://www.my2012district.com/ Just search for a city to see it's district.
that's quite the gap
Of course when you sit down with local planners and look it over it becomes so obvious why that is the best idea.
It makes your district stronger. I imagine there aren't a lot of voters living in a national park...
Read the article, it took power away from the NC democrats by spreading their voters out into more districts...
“No matter how you shape it, now matter how you slice it, Asheville is not a Piedmont community,”

Republicans will have neatly sliced out and diluted the liberal votes Democrats have long counted on from the Asheville area. The mountain district would shift from 43 percent of the voters being registered Democrats to 36 percent.

In addition to threatening Democrats’ hold on the 11th Congressional District, Democrats could also lose control of the 7th, 8th and 13th districts as a result of the redistricting.
That said I really do not want to completely privatize a program that many parents use as an educational tool. Also the cuts to PBS would probably hurt NOVA more in which case there would be hell to pay.
Cutting PBS support (0.012% of budget) to help balance the Federal budget is like deleting text files to make room on your 500Gig hard drive
spoiler: they're secret bffs for ever
To be fair he just said cut federal funding, with the amount of products they have I doubt sesame street they would go under.

About 30 minutes into the verbal contest between President Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney, the former governor explained that he would cut what he considers non-essential items in the budget, including cuts to PBS, which employs debate moderator Jim Lehrer. "I'm sorry Jim. I'm gonna stop the subsidy to PBS. I'm gonna stop other things," Romney said. "I like PBS, I like Big Bird, I actually like you too."
very directly implying he knows it will affect pbs.
very directly implying he knows it will affect pbs.
I was saying that sesame street, which is the show most people are focusing on, unlike many other shows on PBS could stand on its own without government funding so people should be more concerned about other programs. The main argument I have seen supporting Mitts proposed cut is that sesame street does not require funding, by focusing on it people are weakening the argument to continue funding.
This bit?
Something about this video doesn't sit right with me... Weird because I usually like Brooker's stuff. Paranoia in politics and popular society, though undesirable and judgement-impairing, is by no means a new thing. Throughout history you can find situation after situation where large populations of people did incredibly reprehensible things because they were told that the jews were poisoning their wells or witches were practicing their magic on them. During the french revolution huge numbers were killed simply for being suspected of remaining loyal to the monarchy. Heck look at the red scare and McCarthy's hunt for communists if you want something recent. Meanwhile the media airs what will get viewers or sell papers, as always. Hell isn't Brooker doing the exact same thing by telling us that the mainstream news is screwing us up psychologically? I guess it just felt like he followed the same formula of picking an enemy and pointing a finger while giving a vague claim as to how it's ruining society or harming us somehow. I wouldn't say taking everything you see in the news at face value would be a wise decision, but there tends to be a grain of truth even in the examples of sensationalist news that he gave. Obesity is a serious problem that has sadly been so over-wrought that there are people who aspire to unrealistic and impossible goals and end up harming themselves. I duno maybe I'm just tired and need to stop talking.
I am confirming that north carolina is full of goddamn rednecks and retards who'll vote for romney. I'm surrounded by them.
I am confirming that north carolina is full of goddamn rednecks and retards who'll vote for romney. I'm surrounded by them.
We are not all bad, like I said at least Asheville is alright.
Despite the shitness of his first two sources, he linked Politifact below them- a legitimate, reputable source
ABC isn't a shit source? It's pretty middle of the road. And there's nothing wrong with linking to politifact. They're generally a fairly reasonable fact checker. He, however, for some bizarre reason decided to link to the candidate's "total" pages instead of linking to the article they actually wrote about the debate. I'm assuming for the numbers.
I am confirming that north carolina is full of goddamn rednecks and retards who'll vote for romney. I'm surrounded by them.
Oddly enough, I live in a redneck/religious-heavy area where most people are Democrats except the rich retirees.
The main reason why my dad hates obama is because we almost lost our house after my parents were laid off and on unemployment. He applied for that new readjustment program obama was talking about and he was told that we make too much money. So ever since hes been pissed at him. Personally there wouldnt even be that program with romney in office so the argument falls short, but its kinda reasonable.

[editline]4th October 2012[/editline] guess your dad hates obama for giving him false hope?
Then your dad would have nothing to apply to? [editline]4th October 2012[/editline] guess your dad hates obama for giving him false hope?
I would say that's a valid reason to hate him, given that his campaign slogan was hope and change.
i can see being mad at Obama but Romney is just going to make anything like that worse
I would say that's a valid reason to hate him, given that his campaign slogan was hope and change.
this particular thing got in the way of him getting benefits from a program specifically because he was making too much money? I'd be mad at the banks or whoever you reapplied with for the readjustment, I don't think obama reviewed your case and said "wow this dude's loaded he doesn't need help". This is a terrible time to get caught up in a grudge against the president on the whole as a result of a system he proposed/set in place/talked about that one time, looking at cold numbers to make decisions the same as they do with everyone else

This comes to mind:
Obama definitely was playing cautious, trying to not say something that could possibly mess up his campaign, but that backfired on him. Romney was more aggressive than I think most people expected. I would expect future debates to be much more interesting.
I think people were expecting obama to go and bite off romney's ear or something [editline]5th October 2012[/editline] "arhgharghahgr you don't defund motherfucking pbs dickhole!" then he tears off his ear with his gigantic chompers

The big bird thing is ending up to be A Big Deal and Obama's going to still be safely ahead in the swing states.
