Obama's chances of winning went down to 85% and Nate says it will go down further in the coming weeks. Fuck.
look at it this way, as organizations of church and/or governmental power (in a multitude of cultures over history) hav practiced: keep the masses stupid and poor, and they'll believe what you say and do whatever you want them to do for pitiful amounts of money, or strictly out of faith. You can control and extract wealth or increase your number of followers (thus more power) much easier if you keep the populace in such a state. This is why it's always something politicians try- >to reduce education, again, to bring down the likeliness citizens will know any better and just take your word, continuing to give you money/keep you in power >to break up the concept of unions, it's all to reduce the people's voice and let corporations continue to tower in power over the single worker (which unions act as a collective corp on speaking power for many workers) >opposing contraceptives. Poorer people would have harder times getting contraceptives if the pill or similar medicinal methods were not covered by healthcare/available at all. Birth rates would go up, ending up with low income people straining to raise low income children, ending up with those children having lower chances of getting a proper education in the long run. >opposing abortion, most abortions are because the mother knows that she can't afford to support the child without diving into further poverty, putting both of them at risk of homelessness, lack of proper medical care, not being able to continue her own education, etc. Obviously some people are seriously disturbed by the concept of abortions after seeing all those terrible pictures of stuff on the interwebs, but doing it early isn't- let's not get into this discussion. >then there's rape abortions, because jesus christ whoever's standing up for the rapist's parental/visitation rights is an absolute bag of dicks and should be investigated for lots of things I could go on about the blatant base ideals to these kind of tactics, I'm not sure why people just think "he just hates that stuff because bible". I don't mean to go all conspiracy theorist sounding but come on.
And there you described have a textbook republican. Evil powerhungry fucks.
[del]Isn't it forbidden for candidates to bring any kind of notes in debates?[/del] Never mind, it's a handerchief apparently
In all honesty, the debate was kind of lack luster. If anything the format of the debate needs change because it was so back and forth and nothing really was answered.
In all honesty, the debate was kind of lack luster. The questions were terrible, too. "How do you differ from the other guy?" That's terrible. Just have them say their stance on the subject.
I like how the entire debate was about domestic policy, but the domestic policy that is doing the most damage on this continent and others, drug prohibition, never came up. Next debate, the moderator should have the ability to cut the mic off after 2 minutes, and to threaten to permanently cut the mic off if a real answer to the question wasn't provided. Because they tap-danced around each and every single question the guy asked, I don't think I heard a single straight answer all night.
I like how the entire debate was about domestic policy, but the domestic policy that is doing the most damage on this continent and others, drug prohibition, never came up.
Why would they debate about it when they are both fine with how it is?
How may I ask, out of curiosity, is drug prohibition causing the most damage of any domestic policy?
As Abraham Lincoln said when he founded America there is NO domestic issue more important than the right to SMOKE WEED
How may I ask, out of curiosity, is drug prohibition causing the most damage of any domestic policy?
We're at war with our own citizens and we're funding a criminal underground that is worth an extraordinary amount of money. On top of that, what we pay to enforce prohibition could be better spent elsewhere, solving real problems. It's a huge issue and it's something that's right here within our borders.
Why would they debate about it when they are both fine with how it is?
Well yeah of course, but that's why these things are such bullshit anyway. They never talk about anything real, and when they're asked about something real they just give vague answers.
Turns out Obama wasn't needed for the debate after all.
I wish we would talk about how neoliberalism. And how its invaded our entire political culture and society.
How may I ask, out of curiosity, is drug prohibition causing the most damage of any domestic policy?
It does nothing good and yet we're spending billions on it.
The questions were terrible, too. "How do you differ from the other guy?" That's terrible. Just have them say their stance on the subject.
Nah, it's actually a solid question. If you say "say your stance on X" it just turns into the normal fruity bullshit entirely detached from facts- my stance on X is that America is great and we can make the best X to ever X Xs because I have a plan and oh hey time's up. Saying "What sets you apart from him regarding X" requires you actually say: -A thing your opponent wants -A reason why you disagree with it -A thing you would do instead -A reason why you think it's preferrable The problem was both of 'em just flipped off the moderator and the questions and went right back to saying their "stance" on things.
If Romney loses the election we can blame it solely on him going after PBS right?
10 hours to go!
I wish we would talk about how neoliberalism. And how its invaded our entire political culture and society.
Huh?
Bidens a fucking masterful debater and he's going to smash Ryan.
Bidens a fucking masterful debater and he's going to smash Ryan.
Is he? I thought Biden was infamously gaffe-prone?
Is he? I thought Biden was infamously gaffe-prone?
that too
Biden is surprisingly competent when put on the spot. Watch the 2008 VP debate, it was fucking incredible. [editline]11th October 2012[/editline] Here's a snippet.
Gaffes aside, I'm really looking forward to Biden's performance in this debate. I have the feeling he's going to do just fine.
OP updated.
Is he? I thought Biden was infamously gaffe-prone?
I think romney managed to eclipse him
I feel bad for Obama. :(
Oh shit, is Romney actually taking this so far?
This should be entertaining. Both VP candidates are huge dumbasses.
This should be entertaining. Both VP candidates are huge dumbasses.
I agree, but I'd rather have Paul Ryan as President than Romney.
I agree, but I'd rather have Paul Ryan as President than Romney.
If Ryan was in Romney's place obama would certainly win.
