People find power in numbers and support. Gun activists would have a lot of both at this present time. Even in our own law enforcement they would find support.
yeah for now. The whole basis of democratic accountability was underpinning this hypothetical scenario. No one is going to ban guns tomorrow, so don't worry about that.
meller yeller you are telling me you value your god given right to shoot guns more than your ability to not be shot by the atf when they come and seize your guns?
If you legitimately think the government would go around gunning down everybody refusing to give up their guns, you're totally out of touch with reality.

another gun control thread in SH of europeans talking about how stupid americans are for owning guns and how they don't need them in the US since they don't have them in the UK.
another gun control thread in SH of europeans talking about how stupid americans are for owning guns and how they don't need them in the US since they don't have them in the UK.
We have guns in the UK. I used to go shooting regularly. Is this just going to be another thread where you rate everything dumb rather than bring up anything meaningful yourself?
as you you since apparently you seem to believe mexico is a bastion of firearm craftsmanship
I don't think Mexico makes them, but I think they could easily find a supplier or they could create their own if they wanted to. The cartel does whatever the want in that country. They don't supply guns only because they don't need to. [editline]9th April 2013[/editline]
We have guns in the UK. I thought you lived in the U.S. I was wondering why you were so boneheaded as to your assumptions on how a culture you know nothing about would react to something.
We have guns in the UK. I used to go shooting regularly. Is this just going to be another thread where you rate everything dumb rather than bring up anything meaningful yourself?
yes I agree we should have the same laws as the UK, hopefully the a criminal that breaks into my house will allow me to: open my safe, load my gun, and stand still while I fire the few shots in the magazine I have. I hear black powder guns aren't as regulated there so maybe I'll just walk around covered in single shot flintlock pistols.
~muh culture~
Say whatever you want. No reason for me to argue anymore. People who aren't from the U.S.'s arguments have zero merit to me since they basically can't say anything that's not straight out of their ass. I might as well debate with a stump in that case. wait so you're telling me that since its my culture we should stop trying to ban guns? ok let me just tell the middle east to keep beheading criminals and oppressing women, don't worry, its their culture!!!
another gun control thread in SH of europeans talking about how stupid americans are for owning guns and how they don't need them in the US since they don't have them in the UK.
im an american gun owner

Only an idiot, or an anti-American bigot prepared to maintain that Americans are four times more murderous than Britons, could possibly pretend that no connection exists between those figures and the fact that 300m guns are “out there” in the United States, more than one for every adult.
People just have an idea that guns are natural that people from other countries don't have. Making them harder to enforce in any way. Which is why, like I said, non-Americans' opinions on the matter mean nothing to me.

I thought you lived in the U.S. I was wondering why you were so boneheaded as to your assumptions on how a culture you know nothing about would react to something.
Ahaha. Oh this is cute. You genuinely believe the majority of gun owning Americans would actually stand up and fight for their right to shoot bits of metal at other bits of metal? Do you not see how complacent people in your country are to basically all legislation passed by your government recently? Even when told "hey, this new bill might limit your ability to X freely", most people don't seem to care or have an strong opinion. Lets not forget that if there is an uprising your military would fucking decimate them. All it would take is your government calling the insurgents terrorists and they would be free game for the military to clear out. Anyone in the military decides they don't want to shoot a 'murrican? They've effectively defected. Good luck keeping the gub'ment away from your guns there, you'd fucking need it.
If you legitimately think the government would go around gunning down everybody refusing to give up their guns, you're totally out of touch with reality.
Well they're going to jail if they don't free hand over their firearms in such scenario, and resisting arrest isn't gonna make the police go "oh well, let's just leave him be". And if resisting arrest includes pulling a gun on a law official, well expect to be shot at.

Laws and regulations in America are determined by the actions of the legislature, the executive and the courts, with the consent of the voters; the level of gun ownership has nothing to do with anything. When congressmen debate liberty-related measures such as the health-insurance mandate or net neutrality, they don't worry about getting shot; they worry about getting re-elected. Once laws and regulations are in place, the government does not hesitate to enforce them because it is worried about resistance by gun-owning citizens. Widespread gun ownership by private citizens will no more deter the US government from enforcing the Endangered Species Act against property owners than widespread gun ownership by drug dealers has deterred the government from enforcing the Controlled Substances Act. Nor should it. If anything, widespread gun ownership forces the government to become more repressive and more invasive in its efforts to fight crime and prevent insurrection. This is the kind of vicious dialectic one sees in countries like Afghanistan, Somalia, Iraq and Burma, where dispersed gun ownership among rival ethnic groups leads to a see-saw with brutal dictatorial regimes, who see repression as the only means to keep the state from disintegrating
It's just idiotic, and anybody who has studied even an ounce of American history will know it doesn't work that way.
All the gun-owners politely line up to hand their guns over and the US is all kisses and hugs forever more" viewpoint
Said no one ever. At least when you got called up on your batshit rhetoric - you actually said it.
Said no one ever. At least when you got called up on your batshit rhetoric - you actually said it.
I know right. It's almost as bad as comparing American gun culture to Taliban terrorism and beheading. Oh wait...

The reality is probably more like this; A few disgruntled owners from the millions will decided "nah, not having that", keep their guns to shoot illegally at unregistered ranges, sell on the black market, or use in future crimes. They'll get caught out one day and lose said gun, landing themselves in prison and everyone else will go on with their day like nothing happened. There's not enough care amongst the American public to actually rise up against anything like this. They can't even be bothered to rise up in any real meaningful way against other weapon bans, why would this be any different?

The fantasy to pretend that simply owning a crappy civilianised range plinker turns you into a stalwart defender of liberty is hilarious. Yet people hardly got up off their couch about the Patriot Act, or Gitmo, or drones and the disposition matrix. Or anything meaningful with regards to freedom and liberty. ~just don't touch meh guns~
It's an idiotic comparison to make for any purpose
Man, you're pretty bad at this aren't you?
I blame Saturday morning cartoon! Clearly that's the cause for this child's violent behavior!
an english newspaper blog against guns right HOLY SHIT please stop posting
The Economist is internationally staffed and respected international affairs magazine, not a blog. That article was wrote by an american. Try again.
