So because she has low self esteem she manages to get off the sex offenders register?
She was also borderline intellectually retarded IIRC.
Laura O'Donnell walked free from court.
so apparently something similar to probation is walking free
thanks Murdoch News for being a piece of fucking shit
Stories like these are why I can't take feminists seriously.
I feel like this is a suitable thread to have my first post on...
Where the fuck was she when I was 15?
Stories like these are why I can't take feminists seriously.
Since both the judge and the person committing the crime are female, this is more a case of misandry.

posts like these are why I find myself having less and less respect for you
what are you doing

what are you on about
honestly it's only sexist/complete disgusting if men do it
change the sex's around in the article and the guy would be in prison for life

no he fucking wouldn't, don't be a fucking dickhead
we don't live in America
I did a case study on a guy who went out and raped a bunch of women in the 90s for his 18th birthday
he got a two year suspended sentence, which is 6 months more than what this woman got
the next month he went out and raped another girl, so they put him in jail for a couple of years
he got out, and the treatment counselor said he wasn't ready, and lo and behold and tried to rape and did assault a couple of women
he went in for five years, got out, and did the same thing, went in for another five years and the DPP requested an indefinite detention order, which was granted this year
for statutory rape, without being in a position of care, with mental retardation, that young, an 18-24 months community based order is normal
[editline]20th October 2011[/editline]
and she was already sentenced to two and a half years in custody, so whatever bias you think you're seeing obviously isn't widespread
Maybe it's the picture but she looks fucking evil!
I find her very attractive
Hey lady you can get me drunk and have sex with me if you want
won't even get in trouble for it
are you kidding me
wait, seriously, what the fuck
how does she get off scot-free? how? our justice system is fucking retarded. I hope they appeal and this goes to an appellate court with a non-retarded judge and they throw the fucking book at her. So you're telling me that "low self esteem" is a get out of jail free card? I'm going to go rob a bank and use that defense.
Hey, guys. It's called reading. You might want to try it.
This occurred in Australia; you're both in the US.

Regardless, "said" justice system is full of flaws.

well if this is the standard for Australia regardless of sex I think we all should shut our mouth about how sexist it is at least
well if this is the standard for Australia regardless of sex I think we all should shut our mouth about how sexist it is at least
It is next to impossible to let this roll of a shoulder as a male.
Let's face it, there isn't a person on this earth, that won't look at this and say sexism, it's not something that standards can even amount to, it is reality.
If it was the other way round then the guy would have got a long sentence, lifetime on the sex offenders list and multiple beatings in jail.
Because she's a woman basically the judge is "Aaww it's okay we all make mistakes"
Regardless, "said" justice system is full of flaws.
How would you know? What do you know about the Australian justice system? Have you studied it at any length? What are you basing it on - just this one story?
I don't deny it is, but all justice systems are flawed. To say that ours is any more so than any other justice system in the world is misguided. We don't imprison ~1% of our population like yours does, for starters.

I'm basing my statement off of the fact, that no system is perfect, so going off of this one story, is just a scapegoat to point out a mere single flaw of a web of flaws in "said" justice system.

well if you read my post
you'll see that I said if this is standard for the Australian system (as someone said before) then there's nothing sexist about it
well if this is the standard for Australia regardless of sex I think we all should shut our mouth about how sexist it is at least
at her age, it's a 50/50 chance of jail or community based sentence
it helps that the assault was when they were drunk but still conscious, and non-violent
that she is borderline intellectually disabled also reduces the charges
it's highly dependent on the victim impact statements as well
if these kids wrote "we weren't affected at all, she has great tits and now we're the envy of all our friends", then that's definitely cause for a far more lenient sentence
that's sexist in a sense, but it's not the fault of the courts
Murdoch News and the Crimes Support lobbyists for tougher sentences (like your Harper) have been attacking this judge for the last while, it's nothing new.

This pretty well seals it up then
false outrage, shitty source

yes, she spend her professional career practicing law, overturned a lower judge's sentence, because 'awww it's okay we all make mistakes'
jesus fucking christ how dense are you
if that was her rationale, do you really think she would still be a judge?

That was my point, though, mate. Saying 'this justice system is flawed' means comparatively little when you acknowledge all justice systems are flawed. Australia's is one of the least flawed systems I can think of, and I'm the first to admit its numerous issues (in fact, I'm studying them right now).
Is it sexist that women are less likely to be violence due to lack of physical size and social conditioning, and violence is one of the things factored into a sentence?
This isn't the standard. I can think of very few cases in Australia where someone (male or female) has been prosecuted for statutory rape like this; most of them at this age (20) would not receive a prison sentence or go on the offenders' list, especially if they're intellectually disabled like this woman.

we sholdn'teven let chicks be on the bench i mean they're just gonna get their periods while the case is happen ing

well either way it's certainly not favouring women as some seem to think

I can't actually recall a case in the Australian media in the past 10 years where a woman has been prosecuted for statutory rape.
There are multiple things beyond her gender that factored into her relatively light sentence.
It still would have been a totally different story if it was a man, despite what people are saying.
If a guy plied underage girls multiple times with alcohol and had sex with them, he would be branded a less than dirt scumbag and would most likely see a long, painful time of being beaten in jail.

i'm not talking about the judge..
Another fine example of Sexism, man go to jail for raping/punching/killing/etc, Girl do not go to jail, but get hi-fives. But on serious note, this is just stupid, put her in jail or whatever.
I don't think it's really damaging to a 15-year old, but 12? That's not good. I know everyone laughs and says they'd love to have been raped at 12, but they'd have a different opinion if it actually happened to them. It's not really like how the Japanese porn makes it out to be.

there are about 2500 women in jail, and 25000 men which roughly corresponds to the offending rates by gender

yup, you're right, you, a british commenter, know more about the Victorian criminal justice system than a Victorian majoring in criminology under a guy who spend the last two decades investigating the victorian criminal justice system
also, the source is OP is the Australian equivalent of the daily mail
Bitch needs to go to jail.
