rev up those porn mods
Because I sure am horny
DLC for Sims 4 = Bad DLC for Sims 3 = Bad DLC for Sims 2 = OK because I liked Sims 2
Except there wasn't DLC for the Sims 2. There was expansion packs, but even those became pointless in the end. And do you know why they're not okay? Because a significant amount of the content in TS3 was the same as the Sims 2 basegame, only cut down. Expansion packs re-added stuff we already had in the Sims 2. A lot of the meshes were the exact same.
And Sims 2 rehashed EPs from Sims 1, it's been their business model since day 1.
DLC for Sims 4 = Bad DLC for Sims 3 = Bad DLC for Sims 2 = OK because I liked Sims 2
First game had expansions out the ass, which was apparently OK at the time (never actually played it so I wouldn't know). Then the second game was such a massive improvement over the first one that it felt like a completely new game, even though there were some pretty similar expansions between the two (stuff packs getting a bit much). Then the Sims 3 was only a marginal improvement over the Sims 2 and they made us pay for the same exact packs again. IIRC there were no hot tubs in the base game either despite them being in the Sims 2, and on top of that they added them back in the Late Night expansion (which was essentially a clone of Nightlife for the Sims 2). Now we have the Sims 4, where there's no pools or toddlers on release, and I fucking guarantee that they'll be adding them back in a couple of expansions, that will probably be almost identical to the previous set of expansions we've gotten. Gotta say though, official mod support is a pretty damn good incentive. I'm more interested in the game now then I was before
• Sims 4 coding written in Python
Smart, almost as easy Lua to use so there should be a fuckton of scripts written with it.
Someone should remake this
The Neighborhood BBQ would greatly benefit from this plan, we can throw in all the "Bros" too. Would be tons of arm waving fun!
Is this actually more moddable than the Sims 3? afaik custom content has always been supported in the previous games, so this isn't really surprising unless I'm missing something?
IIRC there were no hot tubs in the base game either despite them being in the Sims 2, and on top of that they added them back in the Late Night expansion (which was essentially a clone of Nightlife for the Sims 2).
You mean the hot tubs they patched in?
Sims 4 coding written in Python Really? Is the game in Python or like the scripting language for the game?
It seems really weird that they are including mod support and official mod tools. Only say it as as far as I know the most from EA in the way of official modding tools were merely "turn image files into wallpaper/floor tiles/paintings" for The Sims and the Sims 2. Pretty much anything else related to modding was community made tools. I don't mention The Sims 3 as I've never played it myself.
Sims 4 coding written in Python Really? Is the game in Python or like the scripting language for the game?
Probably a mix, you'll find a fair few games have their main logic written in languages like Python or Lua because it's easier than C or such. Edit: I'm wondering if it's Python 2 or 3 actually.
B-BUT SIMS 4 IS A BAD GAEM ;~;
Could still be a piece of shit for all we know. Modding support does not make a game 10/10 instantly.
Actually got slightly more excited for TS4, hopefully it won't be 60-70 euro at launch..
The worse that can happen is someone making gun mods for the game.
The worse that can happen is someone making gun mods for the game.
I think you underestimate the The Sims modding community.
Steam Workshop support? [sp]I'm serious. They released TS3 on to Steam and have constantly kept it's DLC up to date with release dates after they pulled their major titles. Even though EA wants to push Origin, if the Sims 4 has true Mod support; the Steam Workshop would be the perfect distribution platform then going from website to website.[/sp]
maybe they'll make an Origin workshop
Did hell just freeze over? Or did an EA game announce modding support? Edit: In regards to Tuskin's post, I meant, a new EA title with mod support.
Did hell just freeze over? Or did an EA game announce modding support?
There have been plenty of EA games with mod support
Mod out the inevitable strings that will be attached by EA for giving us something nice. Sounding like a broken record but I'm glad to see EA have a base intelligence to see that people like mods.
SimCity 2013 had mod support but it was nerfed as fuck to protect against stuff being added that would later be part of paid addons. I wonder how this will turn out...
Man Joel is gonna have a field day with this.
Except there wasn't DLC for the Sims 2. There was expansion packs, but even those became pointless in the end. And do you know why they're not okay?
god we get it you're independent and against the flow who cares
You really can't deny that most Facepunchers really have their heads up their asses about gaming
Calling it now, someone's gonna mod in pools
what if someone makes a "pool's closed" mod for the pools mod? that would definitely fit ea's standards for "fun" we may never know
Did hell just freeze over? Or did an EA game announce modding support?
when you think of it, not a lot of AAA titles have mod support, even outside of EA. I think that's more up to the developers than the publisher most of the time
Game set and match, really. Modders can and will fix anything with the proper support.
With proper support is the key part, here. It depends how extensively mods will be supported. There's no guarentee that pools will even be possible with the official API.
It's not an API, you can use Python. The documentation is just to understand the formats people need to use to make the mods and avoid issues people might run into.
it depends on how they implement the mapping, it could be limited if they want to retain some engine features for themselves, or they could go as far to give modders access to the exact same functionality they have internally, so modders could do anything they could.
inb4 mods have to be packaged in a format that allows for an approval system and all decent mods get blocked
I really don't know if it's actually has full-modding support. I'm thinking that is a big lie and when the game officially release, it will be limited and you can't really make a "total conversion" or add any new exciting features like you could in minecraft or civilization 4 or half-life 2... If EA prove me wrong and we do have full-modding support, then I won't be surprised if someone with talent place features that was stripped during develop (like pools and toddlers), and possibly work way much more better. Maybe jobs where it's more interactive and not just random events like what Sims 3 had.
