i bet if something similar to this happened in the US, nobody would care.
but it's a sad thing to happen indeed
What are they going to do? Shoot at it and hope that by some miracle they don't hit a civvy?
I don't know, maybe help a nine-year old who just got hit by a car?
Or in the Netherlands is it "To serve and totally ignore."
EDIT: But that's not the point: The point is that they stand there stone faced and totally unaffected by a tragedy occurring a few meters away from them.
EDIT2: While everyone in the crowd's jaws drop to the ground.

Have you not read the thread? The photos were taken as soon as the car came, the officers had no time to react.

And the crowd did?
It seems like from the pictures 1/4 of the crowd reacted

It may just be me, but if a car came screaming past me unexpectedly, in a flat second I would be off my damned feet just out of reflex.
And even in the video, the cops seem very composed after the crash; maybe it's just mindless professionalism but after a few seconds I would realize what the hell's going on and maybe try to help someone.
But maybe the cops didn't know what to do, because it happened so fast.
That one cop at the end, on the bike, you know it'll be weeks before his balls descend back down into his sack.
On the bright side, at least he won't need to crap again for a while.
And the crowd did?
Yes, because they have a view over the whole street.
The Marechausseeers don't, they keep their eyes on the crowd.
This all happened in a split second.

Quensday is a very important event for us, all of the forces are excellently trained for this kind of mayhem.
But nobody fucking expects an idiot driving his Suzuki Swift right in the Naald!
The attacker called Karst T. is dead
yep he died at 02:58 Dutch Time in the hospital.
He can't be charged now, and he can't sit in prison anymore.
I wish he would have lived because he is too much of a psycho to just tell everyone what his plan was.
The number of deaths comes to 6. (5 in my eyes)
Pretty much ruined my day and all of the would-be festivities. These images are just disturbing.
Is it me, or is it the 08'ers and 09'ers in this thread going around spouting "LOLOL PEOPLE DIED WE SO FUNNY" "DID HE GET ANY POINTS???"
cut that shit out kids, you aint funny.
Also to the people saying "if this happened in my country nobody would give a shit"
Well now, if a car came driving at high speed trying to crash into the car the president/king/queen of your country is in, and people died on his way there, they certainly 'would give a shit'

Yeah especially if it happened in the states or UK.
Who the fuck would do something like this?
Uh, just saw the video on page two. :(
This is probably the most disturbing video of it:

The sound of the car hitting people always makes me cringe. God I hope the young girl didn't die, I could see her mother crying beside her on the news report.

100 meters distance at 80km/h. You do the math. You would not be off on your dmaned feet just out of reflex, or if you were in the cars path, you wouldn't be able to make it far enough before it hit you.
And even in the video, the cops seem very composed after the crash; maybe it's just mindless professionalism but after a few seconds I would realize what the hell's going on and maybe try to help someone.
Maybe because in the video you still see people sliding along the road because they've just been hit, so we're talking about 5 seconds before the cops and other people came running in to help.
But maybe the cops didn't know what to do, because it happened so fast.
... obviously, so why insult them?

i was like :|....:(
The neatly dressed cops were not actual cops. They were "Koninklijke Marechaussee". Highly trained commando's. Military police. Hence the seemingly cold and slow reaction. They are supposed to stay alert even after something like this happened. They only react once the danger is over or once a thread to the royal family arises.
You mean the staying cool kind of alert don't you?
I guess
7 dead already.:frown:
I was watching this on live TV, when i saw the car crash i first tought it was some sort of sick media hype joke and started laughing.
When i saw policemen reviving poeple i stopped laughing.
Luckly the phase before going braindead is one of the heaviest pains a human can witness.
just can't understand why some people in this thread would rather find blame with the police than the guy who did this. The police were the ones trying to resuscitate the injured and dead, they didn't run them down in the first place.

Luckily it is one of the heaviest pains? What?
To the people saying shit about the police, watch a fucking video of the incident then SHUT THE FUCK UP. Yes I understand that still pictures are difficult to connect with motion in your brain, but just fucking try.
It's a shame the Dutch Royal Family will have to reconsidering riding in an open bus, and having fun with the crowds, it really is.
I don't think they will reconsider as they know this is just some guy that snapped. Plus the national holiday is too grand to just not show up.
I think the Royal Family won't consider it too much, rather our cowardly government.
All they really need to do is set up temporary concrete(or something similar) blocks, so that the next time they have this parade all unauthorized vehicles are unable to get close.
After it's over, the police remove the barricades and life goes back to normal. Meanwhile, people can walk in and out like normal.
