totally spies were hot [editline]6th February 2014[/editline] this needed to be said
Considering that it was made by a French animation studio and wasn't shy about weirdly altering the all-female cast of protagonists and making fun of them in slapstick style, it was basically deviantArt-lite, except as an animated TV show. I'd wager a decent amount of young boys learned something new about themselves while watching it, perhaps even myself included. The ass-pull deus ex machina finale sucked, though. Even if it clearly wasn't the story that drew the audience in.
Well you could say he brought this upon himself. How else would the classmates find out? Talking about it to much.
not a fan of bronies at all. like, sure you can just say 'wow you hate them for liking something you don't like WTF' but it's not like that really, my favourite show is 'the sopranos' you don't see me dressing up as sopranos characters, walking around town with sopranos plushies despite being 22 years old and you certainly don't see me drawing pictures of tony soprano banging christopher up the ass. but yeah obviously bullying someone until they kill themselves is completely fucked and unjustifiable

I'm a brony and you don't see me doing those kinds of things either.
Good job generalizing. I'm a brony and you don't see me doing those kinds of things either.
why even call yourself a brony? just seems weird to me to define yourself over a show. i don't call myself a sopranie. i like a show, i don't let it define me nor do i buy into any weird subculture surrounding it. if it makes you feel any better i think trekkies and all that are just as weird. well, slightly less weird due to the subject matter
why even call yourself a brony? just seems weird to me to define yourself over a show. i don't call myself a sopranie. i like a show, i don't let it define me nor do i buy into any weird subculture surrounding it. if it makes you feel any better i think trekkies and all that are just as weird. well, slightly less weird due to the subject matter
Because mlp has a established community of people that identify themselves as bronies and maybe some people like being a part of that community. I'm pretty sure no such thing exists for the sopranos.
who the hell cares whether they call themselves a brony or not, that changes nothing about their behavior
well overall i don't really give a shit, like i'm not gonna go out of my way to have a go at bronies. i just think they're weird, i think the idea of getting all into a show that hard is weird and considering the subject matter, i think it's even weirder. but as i said before, noone deserves to get bullied until they kill themselves despite how weird i think they are
well overall i don't really give a shit, like i'm not gonna go out of my way to have a go at bronies. i just think they're weird, i think the idea of getting all into a show that hard is weird and considering the subject matter, i think it's even weirder. but as i said before, noone deserves to get bullied until they kill themselves despite how weird i think they are
but why does it matter what he calls himself if he says he's a brony or he says he's just a fan of the show, it changes literally nothing about him
why does me thinking he's weird matter?
well overall i don't really give a shit, like i'm not gonna go out of my way to have a go at bronies.
But you just did that. Twice.
I'm pretty sure no such thing exists for the sopranos.
Why not?
But you just did that. Twice.
if you're gonna call any of the posts i've made in this thread having a go you might needa grow some thicker skin
why does me thinking he's weird matter?
It doesn't matter that you think he's weird (well, it does, but that's an entirely different issue). I was talking about this:
why even call yourself a brony?

It doesn't matter that you think he's weird (well, it does, but that's an entirely different issue). I was talking about this:
because when you label yourself as something those labels bring connotations along with them
because when you label yourself as something those labels bring connotations along with them
but my point is that it doesn't matter what he calls himself because it doesn't change who he is sure, the label may have connotations of its own, but you should be able to overlook that
because when you label yourself as something those labels bring connotations along with them
This can be said about any label or association, not just bronies.
but my point is that it doesn't matter what he calls himself because it doesn't change who he is sure, the label may have connotations of its own, but you should be able to overlook that
Considering connotation is an essential part of language and why we some many words that mean the same thing, I think not.
does someone want to go back through the thread and count how many people say this is the victim's fault and not in any way that of the ones who harassed him for such a stupid reason
Well you could say he brought this upon himself. How else would the classmates find out? Talking about it to much.
Or he mentioned it to someone who told the entire class. Or maybe he had something with one of the characters on it and someone saw it. Or a multitude of other ways that you didn't consider and instead blamed the kid outright like an idiot.
sure, the label may have connotations of its own, but you should be able to overlook that
you could've said this in 2012 but the whole "brony" thing has had what was left of it's reputation driven into the ground already, you can't simply tell people to ignore all it's faults. you'd have an easier time convincing people that juggalos aren't mostly white trash.
This can be said about any label or association, not just bronies.
The closest comparison would be trekkies, Star Wars fans, and whovians, who while already the butt of many jokes, at least are fanatical about multi-media franchises spanning decades that were primary aimed at adults and families and all significantly impacted the culture of their respective countries, whereas MLP is a kids show that, like countless other kids shows, has jokes that appeal to adults in it.
like i said earlier, anyone that obsesses over a show to the point where they're gonna be labeling themselves this or that is weird to me. bronies are just a bit weirder due to the subject matter. sure if they're an all good person then i'll overlook that, most my friends are pretty weird in one way or another but i overlook that, i just never met a brony IRL (or online) that i liked enough to give a crap about overlooking that.
I haven't finished reading everyone's posts so I'm not sure if this came up, but I am kind of depressed by the way the article is written. What bothers me is that the article focuses on the fact he liked mlp. All we really know is that he liked a cartoon, and that's all he's going to be remembered for. "That brony who tried to hang himself". It's terrible, his name is now the thing he was picked on for. That's his legacy. I feel the article should have left mlp out of it completely. It should have just focused on the topic of bullying itself and not what he was bullied for. So now we have assholes like some guys on here and these dickshits on 4chan thinking it's good he tried to hang himself all because he enjoyed a cartoon. It's depressing, terrible, and frankly quite disgusting.

As sad as it is to see the pervasiveness of media-sensationalism, the reaction it brought on was amazing, donations, letters, a few musicians dedicated songs for him. It's sad to see this happen to a person, to have them try to take their own life, and to have the media then condense that life down to a string of buzzwords, but there's always the possibility you get the silver lining of people rallying around them, and here they have come out in force.
itt: brony defense force vs people who dont like the show tactical response squad this discussion is more back and forth than a ping pong game, can't we just lock this already
you could've said this in 2012 but the whole "brony" thing has had what was left of it's reputation driven into the ground already
No real fan of the show calls themselves a Brony of course.
itt: brony defense force vs people who dont like the show tactical response squad this discussion is more back and forth than a ping pong game, can't we just lock this already
Don't forget those 'itt' posts that contribute nothing except a waste of space. Those are really stupid too.
does someone want to go back through the thread and count how many people say this is the victim's fault and not in any way that of the ones who harassed him for such a stupid reason
Roughly 14 or so, including a post blaming the parents. I did not count repeat offenders, alts or people trying to defend themselves, which would have pushed the count over 20. It's sad, really. I can't imagine hating something so much that I would wish harm upon, or try to justify the harm of, people who support it.
