I just find it surprising that something like that would cause an 11 year old to commit suicide. i mean really, it's expected people to be dicks so young since they really don't get things like tolerance or whatever yet, but suicide seems like something that's linked to more longterm things in teenage things like homophobia and internet bullying....pretty startling. Just wonder how long did he watch it for though, and as to the extent of the bullying. all the article stated was that people called the show "gay" and he was bullied, but it doesn't state how much of an extent, what, and how long for.
It's the right age group, not exactly the right gender.
What, boys aren't allowed to watch certain shows because they're too 'girly'? Bullshit

Also how is internet bullying worse than kids bullying? I never thought I would use this but it's as relevant as it will ever be:

I'm disgusted at the amount of people in this thread that wouldn't mind this kind of thing had the victim been an adult. Intolerance is like the cancer of humanity. Aside from cancer itself.

Tyler, the guy who says to rape girls and burn school down? Internet bullying isnt as simple as "turn off the computer", because people will hound you every time you go online, or text you whenever they can, so yeah turn off your computer forever because thatll make it better
that's a really fucking stupid point. like saying you can easily just 'walk away' from any psychological abuse.
I don't know about psychological abuse, but it's really damn easy to just ignore some fuck on the internet who tells you that you're worthless, especially on websites like Facebook where there's a button specifically made for that.
Agreed. Why does the world shed crocodile’s tears over the richly merited fate of a small brony minority? … I ask Pvt. Martin, I ask the Facepunch people: Are you prepared to receive in your midst these well-poisoners of the TV-watching people and the universal spirit of good TV? We would willingly give everyone of them a free steamer-ticket and a thousand-mark note for travelling expenses, if we could get rid of them.
Good Tevelsion Schood Schellivision, a child nearly died right now. I'm just stating the major point here. Sorry if I sound like a broken record now, but someone's gotta point attention to the blind, brain damaged, emotionally scarred, young, elephant in the room.
that's a really fucking stupid point. like saying you can easily just 'walk away' from any psychological abuse. that's just not true
I agree, that's why it is worded so comically (I presume they aren't that stupid anyway). However you can't compare it to the kind of bullying little kids do. With cyber bullying you can walk away, it will still have an effect but not physically. Kids often bully in groups and will gang up on a kid that's different like a pack of hungry wolves. Can't exactly walk away from that.

I think that people are misinterpreting Tyler's tweet. He said that it was just as effective as closing your eyes to a real problem. (ineffective)
with the way tyler acts, i wouldn't be led to think that's what he means

Like seriously. You don't hang yourself because kids called you gay, unless you were already having a lot of issues beforehand.

Grief and depression have been solved since forever and isn't a problem with people of all ages. If anyone suffers then it's their own fault.' That doesn't seem like a realistic way to look at it.
Oh god please don't start this. Sticks and stones is a fucking bullshit argument don't use it pls. [editline]4th February 2014[/editline] Nevermind that fucking bullying doesn't mean only name calling.
I didn't even use the sticks and stones argument, whatever that may be. What I'm saying is if you are actually considering and ready to commit suicide it's not bullying that's the problem. I didn't say bullying is harmless. You people are really fucking tense like holy shit, it's been 6 minutes and two people are already antagonizing me like I'm tr00per7 resurrected.
As far as I'm concerned, no matter who you are, you shouldn't ever feel the need to kill yourself just for liking something unpopular or not intended for you, so long as that something doesn't hurt other people. Even then, if you partake in something that does hurt others, such as racism, suicide still is never the answer, and there are always other options besides self-harm. Not ragging on the kid, mind you, I'm ragging on the world for letting this shit happen to anyone, especially him. Also, if you're willing to bully anyone to the point of suicide, for literally any reason, you are scum and I weep for what little good may still be left inside you. There is no point, opinion or belief in the entire world that is worth driving someone to self-harm and self-destruction over. Any issues you have with someone can be resolved with literally any other solution besides harassment leading to suicide. And this is before the factors of this poor kid's age and the triviality of what he got bullied for are added into the equation. Bullying a child to the point of suicide is fucking evil, somehow even more so than bullying an adult or teen to that point, no matter what age the bullies are or what their stories are. On top of that, he got bullied for liking an extremely-popular children's television show, one that's primarily aimed at girls, but is also intended to be tolerable or even likable by other demographics. There are plenty of important and morally ambiguous issues to debate in this world, but liking an unusual cartoon is so far down the list of arguable topics in order of importance that it's laughable. I'm not usually the type to cry about bullying, but this shit needs to stop, right fucking now. If bullying actually worked like in 80s movies, complete with no damage beyond the physical bruises and comeuppance for the bully/bullies, I'd say things were alright. However, it seems like most cases of bullying end either in suicide or in mental scarring for life. I understand that it's tricky to draw the line of where schools can affect these situations vs. where parents have control, but regardless of who is doing the controlling, this shit has to stop. Kids need to be taught as early as possible that shitting on another human being this badly, to the point of driving them to self-harm is cruel, unnecessary, and intolerable.

Apart from the fact that you, for whatever fucking reason, claim bullying didn't have anything to do with this you also lie.
Have any of you actually watched MLP? It's seriously not that bad. I would go as far as to compare it to the "Power Puff Girls" of this generation.
yeah no dont compare it to ppg
yeah no dont compare it to ppg
Lauren Faust, Tara Strong, aimed at kids, liked by various demographics including adults... What is it that I'm not supposed to compare?
These two are pretty much the same thing. Bullying will fuck up your self esteem and run you to the ground, yes. It won't bring you to the verge of suicide however, and if you are actually considering suicide, getting rid of bullies won't solve your case. Proper care will.

Also, stop trying to solve the problem by suggesting he deal with his issues as a mentally stable adult. He's an 11 year old child who's being bullied, for fuck's sake. He hasn't developed enough to realize how to deal with his issues first hand, and if the the notion of suicide is the first one that pops into his head there's a good chance he feels it's the best solution.
do you know what a corner is? ever been boxed in to one?
As a matter of fact I have. Being treated like shit and getting thrown down stairwells for a year by little shits will make you feel like you've hit rock bottom.
