Think it through for a second then realize that it's a stupid comment you've made.
There's multiple reasons this won't go well, first of all, you should be able to decide when to update and not have to pay 50 euro's more for the privilege, second of all, updates from Microsoft have been shown to break entire OS's, sure wish you could avoid those, third of all.. third-party driver and software, things that may not work well with your current hardware and is forced upon you, like audio drivers, graphics drivers, touchpad software, potential bloatware from laptop manufacturer's.
Just because you never had a problem, doesn't mean other have.
And if your reaction to this is, 'lol just buy windows 10 pro' well, how about letting me use the license that came with my laptop instead, shouldn't have to pay more for a feature that's been there since the start of times. As for 'think of the home users', fuck 'em if they want to be moron's, more money for the people who can fix their issues, makes the world go round.
To be fair, those that have Windows 10 Home probably won't care about forced updates.
They will definitely care when they burn through their mobile broadband allowance.
It's frightening how many people rely on small data caps.

That said, there is a problem with a lot of control being removed even from Pro and Enterprise versions. For example, you now need to run scripts to out out of a specific update, versus just hiding it in Windows 7 or 8.
It still takes just one Google search to disable updates. If you can't do that, you shouldn't turn updates off to begin with.

I don't want to disable all the updates, I want to block certain updates that range from crap Microsoft screwed up and software/drivers from third-party.
Is that worth 50 euro's more? For a feature that's been there since forever? Should I be punished for other home users stupidity?
Just like you, that person isn't thinking about the full picture.

If people have to hunt this down to enable it, then it's next to useless for the people I'm referring to.
so wait, if I got the win 10 pro insider coming from win 7 home premium, do I get put on to win 10 home?

As opposed to hunting down Windows Update options?
Screw this, I'm not even gonna upgrade to Windows 10.
My best guess as to why they're doing this is to prevent situations like in Windows 7 where you could simply uninstall hotfix update kb71033 to get around Windows activation, but it's only a guess.

Fuck that. Why the hell should I care about everyone being on the same version? I'm using this computer, not everyone else, and I don't particularly like getting assfucked by updates that give me no option when they decide to shut down my machine and restart.
I can see this as a problem for people who have slow internet where it interrupts anything they were about to do. Pretty annoying move imo
As opposed to hunting down Windows Update options?
Control Panel -> Windows Update -> Change Settings

It's probably one of the reasons, but they probably want to earn some more money from people upgrading will still giving the illusion of 'free', sure it's free but if you want to avoid problems you'll want to dosh out 150 euro's for that pro license.
I'll find a way around the sound driver and touchpad software problems, but I'd really just like a clean installation and enjoy an upgrade to a new Windows version, is that so much to ask?
Control Panel -> Windows Update -> Change Settings
Right click on connection -> Settings -> Set as metered
As opposed to hunting down Windows Update options?
My point is people who aren't 100% familiar with Windows and it's options are going to struggle unless it's made more obvious.
I sell computers as a job and it can be pretty frustrating at times. I pretty much become free tech support. :suicide:

I would like it if my computer didnt forcibly inject me with needles before turning off and on again at strange times of the day when im trying to do time sensitive work.
Personally thats the biggest issue for me and why i have automatic updates disabled now, the way it interrupts you then automatically restarts. I have a computer because i like to use it, after all.
the way it interrupts you then automatically restarts.
Windows shouldn't be doing this.

The Microsoft website says this doesn't apply to "priority updates".
The Microsoft website says this doesn't apply to "priority updates".
metered connection or bam done?
both are dumb unless 'priority updates' means small and critical patches
metered connection or bam done?

The metered connection option. I get the feeling there are going to be a lot of priority updates after launch, and I don't like it when my pc restarts while I'm in the middle of a critical project or leave my computer for just a minute

Insiders appear to have permanent activation on 10240 so you might just keep Pro, on that hardware at very least. Might change as of the 29th, but it shouldn't.

I've never actually been using a computer when this has happened.
But the restart has had a nice addition

It won't take 10-20 minutes though
It's only defender updates
will only take seconds
You can delay it for up to a week
I'm curious, where did you get that dark theme for the settings menu?
Does this apply to drivers too?
Anyone complaining about updates automatically installing is an luser who doesn't install updates in the first place. I hope you guys realize that the updates are for stability and security patches. You wouldn't be interrupted if you would just click install when they pop up and prompt you the first time. No one is doing time-sensitive work all the time, you have an opportunity to update and you're lying if you say you don't.

The problem is that the barrier for turning updates off will be immediately reduced to watching a 2 minute YouTube tutorial.

I have an opportunity and that is at my controlled time and date. On 8 it will just give you a timer and reboot with no questions asked unless you disable that annoying feature. And if youre playing in fullscreen you won't even see the warning and it will just reboot while you're ingame. Why take away the choice for something like this? There is no logical reason. What if my pc is rendering something? I can't pause that. But no, it will reboot anyway because it doesn't give a fuck. Quite frankly forced updates is a stupid system and benefits only those people who use their pc for nothing but casual internet browsing.
The fact that we have to look up tutorials on how to do registry hacks to disable this stupid shit is just bad. It should be a simple tickbox under advanced settings. It's not something super dangerous that you need to remove completely.

I'm sorry, but what? From your first sentence to your last, you hardly make any sense.
You wrongly assume that just because someone wants to delay an update to a later time, that they "don't install updates in the first place".
People already get that updates are for stability and security patches. This doesn't need to be reiterated.
And what do you mean "no one is doing time-sensitive work all the time"? Are you seriously using that assumption to justify the inability to delay an update to a later time when you're less busy?
I'm gonna fucking bomb Microsoft if the windows updates force restart my computer again.
What bullshit feature is that, it closes off everything that you have open to restart your computer and postponing doesn't even work.
