I take 9 mg of melatonin every night, works better for me than any sleeping drug I've ever taken. Feels much more refreshing/natural in the morning.
If they actually work, what the hell are they doing in convenience stores? Somebody will undoubtedly eat one while they're driving.
Almost beat you Spie, but he's not quite as stupid. Splarg, you realize that if you eat something that will intoxicate you while driving you're about as stupid as somebody who drinks and drives? Seriously, irresponsible people are going to be irresponsible even if this isn't on the market.
Except that melatonin is produced in the body on an hourly basis.
If you're not a narcoleptic you should be fine.
How much is produced though, and how much can the body digest in a single hour?
... humans need to take relatively huge (20 - 200 mg) oral doses of
supplemental Melatonin to directly and fully stimulate the
Melatonin receptors that line the ventricals and canals of
their brains.
Yet supplemental doses of just 1/3 - 3 mg of Melatonin
are commonly used to help people with insomnia to fall
asleep. The are two reason why so little, taken orally and
diluted by all of the fluid in the entire body, can still help
to put middle-aged people to sleep.
Yes and so can Nyquil
Yes and so can Nyquil
But that's listed as medicine and not hidden as a tasty treat.
Hidden? How dense do you have to be...

Pretty sure the packaging says what you're getting!
Not like the brownie is tricking you in any sense.

Not literally but there probably isn't as much fine print on it as there is on Nyquil.
So how have they escaped FDA scrutiny? By slapping a "Not for food use" label on the wrapper and claiming instead to be a dietary supplement.
The FDA should not allow this sort of free pass when it's intention is so blatantly obvious.
Because melatonin can seriously hurt you.

Nor are they legally required to say in advertisement to please drink responsibly.
Ohhh nooo! Its a conspiracy by large corporations and the FDA because they're totally lying to us consumers.
cigarettes get a pass because they have warnings
nice to know
Hey guys.
These brownies contain melatonin.
Your body produces melatonin.
Now, melatonin supplements, when taken outside of this form, cause you to generally sleep. The main purpose of them is getting into a proper circadian rhythm, or sleep cycle.
In this case, these can cause you to sleep. However, they may just make you incredibly drowsy. Either way, it's not exactly the best plan to take them before driving.
And as for the "not for food use" thing, that's valid. If it wasn't, we couldn't sell gummy vitamins, or other nutritional supplements in easy to consume forms.
