IIRC, there was a study a while back that compared the parts of the body of herbivores and carnivores to humans. We're actually herbivores according to the study because we have almost everything a herbivore does. (stubby fingers, no sharp teeth, no claws, etc.) Herbivores can get sick from eating flesh, which might explain the reason the results in this study turned out the way they did.
Granted, this won't stop me from eating meat.
If we were herbivores we'd actually get sick from eating meat. Not just develop or not cancer. Meat is good for us as it provides many chemicals needed. On the other hand we can't eat grass or plants the same way most herbivores can, we either get diarrhea or get sick from it. We're a mix in its truest form.
Humans aye, terrible idea.
What's up with all these damn red meat studies lately?
One idiot does something and other idiots go "NO I CAN DISPROVE YOU!!"
i dont give a shit about this studies, i dont eat meat because i dont like it, not because its bad.
I cant last 3 days without some meat
Link =! Cause
ever had buffalo? that shit's worth dying for.
Those percentages quoted are relative risk increase, right?
What's with all the recent obsession with red meat?
What's with all the recent obsession with red meat?
Haters gonna hate
they just mad because my beef has mad taste (Not to be confused with mad cow). They eat that bland tofu shit and become weak and brittle. The more meat you eat, the bigger, faster strong you will become. Eating raw meat will give you special power, specially the heart of your enemies.
Are they linking people with bad eating habits who eat meat with people with a normal diet who also eat meat? Also what do the percentages mean? How do I interpret a 13% greater chance of death?
I read somewhere that sodium nitrates and sodium nitrites, which are used mostly in stuff like smoked ham you would buy at a grocery store, increase the chances of getting Alzheimer's.
Hippy liberal vegan propaganda.
They eat that bland tofu shit and become weak and brittle.
tofu is only bland if you're terrible at cooking.
why are these "lol fuck hippy science everything gives you cancer" responses not bannable? does the mod team no longer have standards?
why are these "lol fuck hippy science everything gives you cancer" responses not bannable? does the mod team no longer have standards?
because facepunch only agrees with science when it supports their pre-existing views or is irrelevant to them
banning them though? what good would that do? half of them aren't even serious
tofu is only bland if you're terrible at cooking.
it's the same bullshit in every thread. there's no longer an incentive not to be a terrible poster like there was when TH89 and the like were mods

it would be nice to enforce site-wide rules such as "don't make claims without a shred of evidence", I guess.
i guess it didn't do our cavemen ancestors much harm
after all we're here
They say it kills us and yet our average lifespan is longer than that of our ancestors.
They say it kills us and yet our average lifespan is longer than that of our ancestors.
surely medical advances have nothing to do with that!!
tofu is only bland if you're terrible at cooking.
The only time I had tofu was when it was covered in meat juices and various other things I can't quite remember.
I think I kinda missed the concept of tofu.
surely medical advances have nothing to do with that!!
If our medical advances outweight the harm meat does I don't see how this is a valid concern at all.
I'd like to see your methods. :colbert:
What are your parameters?
hahaha fuck off
my grandpa was a lumberjack and ate half cooked red meat all his life, lived to be 6"10 340 pounds and died at 86

I admit to saying a line like "Existence causes cancer" if nobody else says something like it, because there's a fuck ton of things that are "linked" to cancer, heart attacks, cerebral palsy, erectile dysfunction, what-the-fuck-ever, and the "dangerous" items range from red wine to going outside on a cloudy day to listening to Elvis Costello. They've been appearing twice a week and with such radically different claims each time that I've decided it's best to just throw all these "studies" into the trash bin and eat whatever the fuck I want and do whatever the fuck I want. Because fuck it, most of these are lies, and we're playing slots with our lives every time we inhale.
Existence does not literally cause cancer. But at the rate these "studies" are being pulled out of the ass of some random monkey in a lab coat, they might as well just say it does.
a study linking red meat consumption to an increased risk of premature death
It's the hint of death that gives red meat that extra kick of flavor.
Also, what exactly do they mean by "premature" death? I don't think it is talking about premature babies.
