here's a tl;dr ea is like "for our online games, you gotta have an origin account to play online" just like how bf3 worked on the PS3 and 360 nintendo replied "no. you have to use OUR online thing only." then ea is like "no thanks i guess. bye." then awful gaming journalism sites reported on it and now everybody from reddit and /v/ believes that ea literally tried to force nintendo to turn the wiiu into the "origin console." also i wouldn't trust a source called "wii u daily," that unironically uses this fucking image in their article
So when EA are on a near weekly routine for doing or saying dumb shit why do you still try to defend them so much?
So when EA are on a near weekly routine for doing or saying dumb shit why do you still try to defend them so much?
because people, journalists and forum users alike, have a tendency to be really melodramatic about really stupid shit like this. this was just one guy, who is a senior engineer, saying that the wii u was shit. this is only a big deal because it allows people to throw more sticks onto the "ea is hitler" bonfire. and how the fuck am i defending "them?" it's one guy. a single guy. he's not EA, EA is not a person. [editline]18th May 2013[/editline] he actually has some pretty good points. like this here. it's no secret that nintendo's all about the first-party exclusives. top selling games on nintendo consoles are pretty much always first part, 3rd party gets pretty shafted.
I had a lot of fun with the Wii U in the last few weeks. Nintendo Land's asymmetric multiplayer is awesome, but sadly that's about everything the Wii U is good for. I'd never buy it, because for anything other than playing with a bunch of friends every next gen console (or PC) and even current gen console is better. [editline]18th May 2013[/editline]
Some people have pointed out that the PS4s and Nextbox's rumored specs showed that (apparently) both systems had lower CPUs than their predecessors.
I doubt that Sony cheaped out on the PS4's CPU when everything else is a beast that will most likely blow your current average gaming PC out of the water.
Oh shit someone has an opinion that they voiced, better make a huge fucking deal over it because this opinion has never been voiced ever before in the history of the WiiU.
Credibility lost.
your prefered gaming console=/=what's actually making money.
He is just pissed because Nintendo said no to integrating origin into the Wii-U. I can't remember where I read it, some other FPers have been mentioning it earlier this year and such. But this is the best source I could find. http://wiiudaily.com/2012/08/ea-origin-wii-u/
http://dualpixels.com/2012/08/05/how-greed-and-origin-killed-eas-relationship-with-wii-u-rumor/ it might be a supposed rumor but i wouldn`t put it past the old Ea to try something like this
like this here. it's no secret that nintendo's all about the first-party exclusives. top selling games on nintendo consoles are pretty much always first part, 3rd party gets pretty shafted.
It wasn't really Nintendo's fault that their third party market got crippled though, a lot of companies were trying to dump as much shovelware and PS2 ports on the wii as they could to make a quick buck.
Oh shit someone has an opinion that they voiced, better make a huge fucking deal over it because this opinion has never been voiced ever before in the history of the WiiU.
"but this single ea employee represents the entirety of EA because... uhh... it helps my side of the argument."
Oh shit someone has an opinion that they voiced, better make a huge fucking deal over it because this opinion has never been voiced ever before in the history of the WiiU.
yeah but there's a way of going about these things. this was just unprofessional. keep in mind he also spoke ill of origin as well. (although it pales by comparison.) but it's still not good to talk ill of your own company's service.
A little rumor that a friend showed to me earlier, thought it may be somewhat relevant. Now, there is nothing actually confirming this so take it with a grain of salt while reading it and seeing the source of the rumor. http://www.vg247.com/2013/05/10/wii-u-latest-system-update-has-increased-cpu-gpu-speed-rumour/
You can't just "overclock" a system like that. Every chip is different. Unless the chips were binned at that frequency and just underclocked for fuck knows why, it could make them unstable and crash games and apps. Can the power supply take the extra load? can the cooling system take the extra heat? I'm calling bullshit.
I guess when an indie dev bombs on Call of Duty and generalizes it's entire playerbase it's fair play but when a software engineer criticizes a console as unappealing (something that has been echoed by people in the industry before) all the sudden it's unprofessional. Can someone please explain to me why him working at EA means he can't criticize a platform his company might invest millions of dollars and manpower into? Do you guys know what edgy means? Edgy doesn't mean "literally every game that isn't Zelda/Mario/Kirby".
The explanation is that FP doesn't likes anyone saying mean things about "the underdog", that is in this case, the WiiU, especially when it comes from EA, which I more than half-comprehend the hate in this case, but still find that he's pretty much right. There are way too many reasons why the WiiU didn't do well, some of which he has already said.
He should have stated this anonymously, especially for an employee that works for EA. I don't think that his opinion is invalid but it was rather a dumb thing to do, consequences will follow.
When he talks publicly on an open medium, he is representing EA in general. Also he criticized it in an unprofessional manner.

There's nothing wrong with stating your opinion. But you need to do it professionally, "Wii U is crap" is not professional in the slightest.
He is a software engineer using his Twitter account, can you guys stop crying about being unprofessional?
He should have stated this anonymously, especially for an employee that works for EA. I don't think that his opinion is invalid but it was rather a dumb thing to do, consequences will follow.
It's really a shame that "consequences can follow" because someone said something about a video game console on their twitter account. [editline]18th May 2013[/editline]
I guess you dont know what edgy means either.
I thought I knew what it meant, but now I know edgy is defined as "criticizing that console that is selling really poorly because publishers don't see it as worth investing into enough to make games for"
Is the Wii U worth buying for games like Nintendo land or RE: Revelations?
but EA is equally crap, what is EA trying to prove lol at least nintendo has created legacies for itself
but the wii u is shit why the backlash for speaking the truth??
Just because you think that mobile gaming is "stupid casual shit" doesn't mean that it has an INSANELY gigantic fucking market. Much bigger than the Wii U.
It's a fantastically profitable market. Of shit.
but EA is equally crap, what is EA trying to prove lol at least nintendo has created legacies for itself
What you think about EA is largely secondary to the fact that they are the third largest games publisher in the industry.
but the wii u is shit why the backlash for speaking the truth??
Because everything posted on a messaging service that supports 140 characters needs to be a professional press statement [editline]18th May 2013[/editline]
It's a fantastically profitable market. Of shit.
The fact that cheap, accessible games can be easily made with little R&D by almost anyone is actually the reason why companies are interested in exploiting the mobile market.
Is the Wii U worth buying for games like Nintendo land or RE: Revelations?
Nintendoland: only if you regularly play video games with people. RE: only if you hadn't already played it on 3DS. Even then you could just save yourself the 300 bucks and get it on the other consoles if you already have those. you should probably wait a few more months unless you really want a wii u now for some reason. only reason I got mine was because my Wii broke and I wanted to play some Wii games again so instead of just buying a new wii i figured i should just make the jump now.
It's a fantastically profitable market. Of shit.
depends on the quality. even most of the casual nintendo titles were good fun little experiences. the stigma amongst gamers regarding casual games is retarded. thats not to say some casual titles weren't bad...but the fact that even the mention of casual games gets certain people's panties in a knot is ridiculous.
I wonder what he thinks of Nintendo's announcement off three Exclusive Sonic Games for Wii U and 3ds :v:
He is a software engineer using his Twitter account, can you guys stop crying about being unprofessional? It's really a shame that "consequences can follow" because someone said something about a video game console on their twitter account.
what you say and do will always affect your life no matter where it is you say things that may get you in trouble, no matter who or what it is that you're working for. if he had said this while he was working then he was wasting the company's time when he should have been working. this is why people generally have "any opinions of mine are my own. not my company's."
I thought I knew what it meant, but now I know edgy is defined as "criticizing that console that is selling really poorly because publishers don't see it as worth investing into enough to make games for"

all Nintendo's software is still the same kiddie fare they put out in the 90s. Only problem is, we aren't 12 anymore.
this is why you got called edgy. the only people who make these types of comments are the people who are trying to be MATURE GAMERS with SUPERIOR TASTE. how is this hard to understand.
He is just pissed because Nintendo said no to integrating origin into the Wii-U. I can't remember where I read it, some other FPers have been mentioning it earlier this year and such. But this is the best source I could find. http://wiiudaily.com/2012/08/ea-origin-wii-u/
And there source is some guy on Reddit who has no sources besides the age old "I have friends who work at EA" bullshit. If we're gonna blame it on the whole Nintendo not wanting Origin thing we are simply going to need a better source that doesn't rely on fan speculation. And while I do agree with this man's opinions regarding the Wii U at the moment he definitely could've done it in a more professional matter.
people who seriously use the word "edgy" are fucking idiots the go-to garbage adjective
people who seriously use the word "edgy" are fucking idiots the go-to garbage adjective
unfortunately there's no signs of that kind of behavior stopping.
what you say and do will always affect your life no matter where it is you say things that may get you in trouble, no matter who or what it is that you're working for. if he had said this while he was working then he was wasting the company's time when he should have been working. this is why people generally have "any opinions of mine are my own. not my company's."
Bullshit. The fact that he works at EA doesn't mean he can't call a video game system crap. Implying that he should get in trouble because of it is nonsense.
this is why you got called edgy. the only people who make these types of comments are the people who are trying to be MATURE GAMERS with SUPERIOR TASTE. how is this hard to understand.
I didn't make that comment.
Is the Wii U worth buying for games like Nintendo land or RE: Revelations?
If you have people who will play it with you, Nintendo Land is awesome. Haven't played Revelations on the Wii U so I can't give you advice there, but the system has 4-5 good single player games right now that I own and am happy with.
If you have people who will play it with you, Nintendo Land is awesome. Haven't played Revelations on the Wii U so I can't give you advice there, but the system has 4-5 good single player games right now that I own and am happy with.
For online multiplayer Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is a game worth checking out.
Bullshit. The fact that he works at EA doesn't mean he can't call a video game system crap. Implying that he should get in trouble because of it is nonsense.
you're forgetting the fact that he not only spoke ill of the wii u, but origin as well. again, possibly on the company's time and not his own. we don't even know if he's gone or if repercussions will happen but if EA makes any sort of comment on this issue then it's likely that yes, he did get in trouble for this, because they had to waste their own time to clarify his comments that he may or may not have made on the company's own time. i'm not saying i agree with him getting in trouble for this because as you said it's his own twitter account, but he's talking about business matters and when you're talking about a business you're heavily involved in you should try to be a little bit more professional with your comments in a space where anyone can see your comments as this may harm the company's already bad image.
I didn't make that comment. You may want to go back and re-read this thread, then attempt another reply before questioning other people's ability to understand words
my apologies on that then.
unfortunately there's no signs of that kind of behavior stopping.
course not, because it works people form arguments, other people say "i just cut myself on dis post its so EDGY", and the other person goes "NO STOP NO IM NOT" automatically the guy who calls it edgy wins how to stop this: ignore the fuck out of any posts using the word as a tool for arguments or an insult. don't even acknowledge that they exist
