(might have CS spray too, can't remember).
I think some of them carry it, might be optional.
Guess what, in the UK policemen don't even carry guns and yet I would feel safe in any part of the entire country. Tanks and weapons do not guarantee safety.
Your country also has overly strict Gun laws, meaning that its harder to get weapons into the UK then it is into the US.
Yeah your comment is p. bad timing considering you have a relatively new unit that patrols certain sections of the UK with rifles and subguns.
Source on that?
Guess what, in the UK policemen don't even carry guns and yet I would feel safe in any part of the entire country. Tanks and weapons do not guarantee safety.
How easily available are guns in the UK? What's the legislation like?
fuck the system man *tokes a big huge joint*
I'm flabbergasted that there are actually people who defend the war on drugs
Source on that?
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/6407137/Armed-officers-placed-on-routine-foot-patrol-for-first-time.html [editline]20th July 2011[/editline]
I'm flabbergasted that there are actually people who defend the war on drugs
Nobody in this thread has defended the war on drugs from what I can see. Myself, I think it's retarded. But that's not here nor there. The point I'm making is that the tactical teams in the US aren't anymore "militarized" than it was in it's inception, and ergo the guy who wrote this article is talking out of his ass.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/6407137/Armed-officers-placed-on-routine-foot-patrol-for-first-time.html

in gun crime hotspots where armed gangs have turned entire estates into "no go" zones
Seems perfectly reasonable.
They're getting ready to stop the population from making a stand against the government. It really makes you think twice about protecting your constitutional rights when 12 people drive through your house and pop a cap in your ass while throwing nades at the baby crib and shooting your pets. Think about the power the American government has now when compared to the times of writing the constitution. No, it cannot even be compared, it's slowly becoming more obvious to the masses that this shit can't go on forever, but most still seem to think that it's for the greater good. "To serve and protect.." lol.
Strict.
You see, in the US guns are much easier to obtain. In-fact, it's very easy to obtain attachments for pistols in some states that could lead to horrible massacres in the wrong hands. Having easy access to firearms leads to the need for better armed police officers. Plain and simple.
I'm flabbergasted that there are actually people who defend the war on drugs
This isn't even about the war on drugs. It's about people thinking the American police are oppressive and violent enforcers of an American police state, which couldn't be any further from the truth.

I don't even live there and I know I wouldn't feel safe at all in those places.

Wow, the police can hardly contain themselves around handcuffs and a taser, and now they are getting that? I'm scared.
But surely the solution isn't to arm the police even more than the citizens, it's to amend the gun policy.
This is America we're talking about. People like their guns. And quite frankly, I'm one of them. UK is just fine if you ask me. If you want stricter gun laws than us, that's up to you. It's not our country.
People like their high deathrate too :v:
I have been to glasgow hundreds of times and it is a very nice place
Every city has its bad parts though. I've been to big cities notorious for crime and didn't see anything because you don't generally visit the bad part of town.
Whats new. I'd rather be safe than sorry in the first place. Has anybody been to Detroit? Most parts are extremely dangerous.
But what if terrorist groups can steal them and cause havoc.
But what if terrorist groups can steal them and cause havoc.
They'd have to get through Detroit first, and that's a task equivalent to or more challenging than stealing Fort Knox.
But surely the solution isn't to arm the police even more than the citizens, it's to amend the gun policy.
Amending the gun policy helps, but it only does so much. The fact that the guns are here in the first place is the problem. And people like the ability to weld guns. They can come in handy too, it's just they also bring a lot of harm in the process. They certainly serve their purpose of giving the people the ability to defend themselves from a foreign army or the US army itself should anything so awful happen; that said, like the American militiamen, they wouldn't be as advanced nor good as any sort of trained army. We unfortunately have to make sure the police are given adequate firepower against possible threats, just to assure they can protect the people. A lot of the instances SWAT teams are called into are deadly serious, and they require something much more powerful than a pistol to make sure the enemy feels threatened or at least challenged in a fight. Keep in mind that firepower advances as the protection level becomes higher, and generally speaking the firepower level is never going to shoot higher than automatics. I don't think we've armed the police officers any more heavily in recent years anyway than we normally would, although I could be wrong.
Just after midnight on May 16, 2010, a SWAT team threw a flash-bang grenade through the window of a 25-year-old man
wut
Well it appears that police is turning into HL2 cops. :V:
He was born with a window where his chest would have been.
No, I don't live there. But that doesn't change the fact that your popos drive tanks and kill innocent people every fucking week. If I'm totally wrong about my previous statement, tell me how much longer you will let your rights be stripped away one by one? Am I still such a sensationalist when someone you know gets wrongfully gunned down by someone who should actually be giving parking tickets, not run around with an assault rifle. ASSAULT. does that sound like a term used to protect the public? @eatdembeanz.. Getting prosecuted and going to jail for growing/smoking a flower doesn't sound even remotely STRANGE to you? @RBM.. I don't steal because it's unethical, not because I'm scared of the police. Fuck, you chums are the reason your govt WILL fuck you over, it's actually fucking you right now, getting deeper with every thrust of it's steaming member till it comes out of your mouth. And then it's too late. You don't even see the problem, for you do not want to admit it. As you would actually have to do something else than play your little games and surf the net all day. Have fun in your dystopian popo nation :downs:
