Stratton: Doom 4 will be hard, E3 demo was not scripted
It better have been scripted because it looked scripted as hell.
It's probably just the canned cutscenes for picking up the weapons and finishing off the enemies that gave the effect
The combat looked way way way way too slow and easy for a game pretending to be an oldschool FPS. Also, there was a surprising lack of secret areas and keycards in the demo/trailer.
It might not have been scripted but I'm sure it was choreographed and rehearsed.

I don't remember the early Doom games being much faster, especially for an average player of the time.

They were definitely hugely faster in terms of movement and Doom had such a huge emphasis on movement to dodge

The Hell gameplay was pretty goddamn fast.
It was fairly obvious health couldn't drop below 10, so it was most definitely rigged. Drop rates increased as well when health was low.
I would've loved the first Doom 4 gameplay demo a lot more if takedowns had been restricted to Berserk power-ups. Let takedowns replace the insta-gibbing punch from Doom/Doom 2, it'd be a perfect fit!
Like imagine, you've gotten massively fucked up over the course of the level, you're super low on health, and every corner is a risk. But then you find that one Berserk pack, you're back up to 100% health, and you get 20 seconds of over-the-top B-Movie grindhouse-style comeuppance.
That would be so much more satisfying that the constant "The enemy's down, aim at the glowing body part and punch to initiate one of three cinematic takedown animations" that was playing out every five/ten seconds. It was so obviously overplayed.
literally every e3 demo is scripted in some way or else the game could potentially break.
the bioshock infinite demo way entirely scripted, the AI wasn't even in place it was that bent out of shape at the time. If the demoer didn't get it right the game would fuck up immensely.
Games aren't anywhere near complete and the slightest mistep can fuck everything up. Live demos are risky ala uncharted which is why most go the scripted or pre recorded route.
Never forget Half-Life 2.
I just saw trailer for DooM4 (not gameplay demo) and it looks much better than that demo. It has dynamic demonstration lacked.
Rushing through lots of enemies, constant unloading tons of lead and circle strafing.
Why not go with HL2 way of demonstration, first technology reel with slow arching overviews and shit in the first part
and then hectic raw gameplay with oblitirating hip-fire with SSG on the advancing hordes of zombie sergeants, imps and pinkies?
Could've been far more better IMO.
I'd like to think they are saving the really good stuff for Quakecon. Can't blow your whole wad in one napkin.

well, yeah... it's fucking DooM lol speed is one of the things that made the old games great, not the stupid 5 second canned animations
maybe, but stuff like the way the camera moves when he's examining the two consoles in the room is a humdinger for scripting.
No one moves the camera like that while they're playing.
It's E3 on a console and he had "never drop below 10 hp" enabled.
Of course nobody'd move a camera like that while playing, that kind of camera is for presenting.

Sure as hell worked for Fallout 4.
im almost sure that it was a video
hell why do people even play live demos unless its a game about creativity ala littlebigplanet or something
just have a video of someone playing the game well instead of stumbling around onstage giving a bad impression
He wasn't exactly playing well though

It was like 5 minutes of gameplay on a console, what the hell did you expect lol
Why do you guys need this new game to be like the old son games?

I'm glad it isn't Doom3 at the very least.
I can enjoy and play the heck out of D3, but goddamn all that dark just gets on my nerves, not for "arooo scary" but more for "flashlight, gun, flashlight, gun, oh hey heres a zomb--shit I can't see him when I'm shooting, I'll have to alternate between the flashlight and my gun while I kill him"
Theres a mod for it, but I'm too lazy to get the file AGAIN.
yeah with 3 whole enemies on screen at once sometimes!
Remember how the amount of enemies would increase with each difficulty setting in classic Doom?
This is probably going to be the same.

I personally like the fact that you have to switch to a flashlight, it makes you vulnerable

Because if people want to try new gameplays they should make their own fucking game.
DOOM is a fast game. You certainly don't play DOOM to feel vulnerable.
What's the point of having a series of games if you don't keep them consistent?

Development in studio's abilities and strategies? New tech, new ideas? So many reasons.
This one is also a reboot, so they probably would take a different direction anyway.

They can use all these things in a new IP.

it's THEIR game, they'll do whatever they want. If you like the old doom's style, play it

Or... yes.

then let them
Why do you guys need this new game to be like the old son games?
Because after 20 years, the originals are still top tier when it comes to FPSs. The current iteration of Doom 4 looks like junk.
It doesn't look like junk. All we've seen is a heavily choreographed and planned playthrough of two sections, with both ending in ad-campaign-esque sequences.
They demo with controllers, you can do panning camera shots with a stick much easier then with a mouse. Of course nobody moves the camera like that while they're playing, he isn't playing, he's demonstrating the game, the graphics, and the aesthetics all at once. As a matter a fact yes I would

Who are you to decide how a company designs their game lol
I personally like the fact that you have to switch to a flashlight, it makes you vulnerable
You aren't all that vulnerable when theres like max 3 or 4 enemies trying to kill you every now and then. It's more of a nuissance than a vulnerability.
Heck, the guns themselves are a small source of light. They light up the area a bit when you fire, especialy the plasma gun, so you can adjust your aim or target someone else. Not only that, the crosshair turns red when you hit a target so...
Besides, as said, you face small numbers of enemies at once most times, and they usually run towards you and have rather poor AI since they are coded to chase and maul you or attack you from far away IF they have the ability to do so. Just hide behind a corner and wait gun in hand for them.
Not exactly very vulnerable.

You can go play the old Dooms then
You won't need graphics because you'll be going fast enough to not care.
