3-D Printed Assault Rifle Breaks After Just 6 Shots

Firearms are kinda easy to make. That's why there's so many.
plastic parts like that don't last very long under the strain of gunfire.
You can make a break barrel single shot with relatively few materials.
Yes, but the lower is the part that turns a standard civilian hunting rifle into a babykilling murder machine (aka full auto). Modifying a lower for full auto is already banned so extending that ban to custom-made lowers doesn't seem unlikely.
They'd have to use a military model as reference. I've heard that most civilian model AR-15 lowers are made in such a way that inserting a full auto or burst fire trigger group is impossible.
I don't even understand the fascination with full auto automatically making something a killing machine.
Unless it's a machine gun, full auto would just cause the shooter to waste ammo and be less accurate.
My best guess would have to be with what they assumed: Recoil.
What is the material used for 3d printing anyway? The article says plastic but what kind of plastic?
I get what you're saying, but spring loaded guns never go above 40 dollars. Would be a really shitty investment.
Oh they go for plenty more than 40 if you want something that holds up.
It will improve. I mean damn, 6 shots is pretty good.

a machine gun is anything that's full auto
the point is that it's fun to shoot a full auto gun

or you could understand that guns aren't useful only for genocide
Why is this a good thing? I'm aware that in the US you're allowed a firearm, but here in the UK i'd really prefer it if every twerp with an opinion didn't have a weapon a few years down the line.

With as controlling as your country is, I doubt they'd let the average citizen get their hands on the more durable materials required to print a fully made firearm that will last more than 10 shots. Hell, I doubt they'd let you get a 3D printer, I'm sure those will be heavily regulated too.
6 shots for a 3D printed gun? That's really impressive! Even though the only printed parts are the trigger and grip, but still! It's a beginning
There is only one conclusion from this: Print. More . Guns.

There will undoubtedly be stronger plastics in 3D printing once the technology really takes off. Which will obviously be more useful than firearm receivers.

It's already completely illegal to make a new full auto gun. You can fill out a form to register it for $200, but the ATF will just kick it back to you and tell you to fuck off unless you're a rich politician.
I'd want a 3d printed .22lr revolver.

Gun Caches have been found all around Scotland and Northern Ireland with similar types of firearms. It should also go without mention that several people in the UK have been making guides/huge websites about how to make machine-pistols and bolt action rifles.
We had a pretty good discussion on the Firearms Thread regarding this a few days back if you wanna take a look.
Thanks world war 2, for teaching the world how to make submachine guns out of a 2' x 1' sheet of metal.
This 3D printer device, can it make friends?
Just like far cry 2!
so if you really wanted to, you could 3D print a handgun or something, kill someone and then just melt the weapon down to get rid of the evidence?
that concept is kinda scary

I mean, I guess you could do the same with a metal firearm but it's way easier to melt plastic than metal

Every second, even when you don't use it!

a hi-point pistol (costs $100 new instead of a minimum of $600 for a used gun) is made of a zinc alloy and will melt on any hot plate
If you wanted to start a militia, you could just by 40 mosins for the price of a 3d printer.

Alternatively you could just buy a few AK's, shit's cheap

Re-smelt it to a bad-dragon dildo copy and sell it to some sucker in the dragon megathread :v:

I have a friend in the UK who was shot by an armed robber, so I'm pretty sure the criminals know how to find weapons just fine.
So when will it be affordable for me to print Airsoft parts and drop off-the-shelf gearboxes and parts into them?
To be expected. The technology is still in its infancy.
Once we figure out how to do this with higher strength polymers, the world will be our oyster.
The 3d printing business is going to make a killing in Chechnya

It's the lower receiver that he printed, not the trigger and the grip. Why would you want to print just those?

It's already illegal to manufacture guns over there. This is no different and will change nothing.
Considering the fact that you can build a machine gun out of a piece of tubing (might have heard of it, the Sten? You guys made them in WW2. A lot of them were built by school children in shop class), this is hardly a baby step forward in ease of manufacture. Considering you need to know how to use a CAD program, and also have access to a 3D printer which aren't exactly cheap. You could buy like five guns off the black market over there for the price.
Oh and because the guy below me didn't post it enough times:
