10 key reasons why the Obama presidency continues to melt down
Of course we need to pay taxes to pay for necessities. However, I'm strongly against raising taxes pay for wasteful government spending. There is a lot of stuff we can cut out, and by doing so we allow more tax money to go towards important things.
What can we cut out?
Aside from the obvious issues with the two conflicts in the middle east, what can be cut out?
When he does what he wants, he has a liberal agenda.
When he tries to bridge the gap between the parties, he is spineless.
This isn't some fucking game. The two parties have to work together to get anything done. It isn't a red team blue team deal. We are all on the same fucking side. So when the President, chief diplomat of the nation, tries to be DIPLOMATIC, he is doing his JOB.
From my point of view and form the point of view of the progressive left whose respect and support he has lost, he is definitely spineless, no matter the issue. He compromises TOO much is the issue,a nd can't unify his own party. This is not a president being diplomatic, this is a president who is not a good figurehead. We need someone who can unify the parties to work together, not one who gives happily 60% to the opposition without asking for the 40% from his own.
Perhaps a lot of people would be better off if they weren't dependent on the government. For the record, I'm not talking about people who cannot work, but people who can work and choose not to.
Who are these people who can magically survive on nothing?

That's a start
I think defense and income security could be lowered a bit, and social security could be better optimized.
Who are these people who can magically survive on nothing?
He's saying that we need to weed out the abusers of the system. Quite putting words into that statement. That is something we all should agree on is to limit abuse of social programs.

Oh I agree, he is absolutely spineless. I think he continues to try to work with the Republicans when he should really be forming an entire division in the FBI to specifically investigate members of congress and bring them up on treason charges if they are found to be corrupt in any capacity.
Politicians remain my sole exception to stance on capital punishment. If they accept bribe money, they should die. The lives of millions of people ride on their every decision. Not just in the United States, but across the world. The suffering they can cause with a simple vote is without equal.
Vote Obama
Change.
Several things can be cut, subsidies for ethanol, stop the "war on drugs", etc. At the same time, the solution doesnt just lie with cutting, but we'll have to create new sources of income.
Quite reasonable, but still a very tiny drop, in a very large ocean.

You're right - the solution can't be to cut and only cut... But I just have a hard time identifying with the people who think the solution to everything is just front the country's bills on the upper class.
That creates a problem in itself, because the upper class Americans also tend to be nation's employers.
;31618473']He's saying that we need to weed out the abusers of the system. Quite putting words into that statement. That is something we all should agree on is to limit abuse of social programs.
The system is designed to avoid abuse. This isn't to say it doesn't exist, but the amount of money spent on people abusing the system isn't even close to worth screwing over all of the people who are in legitimate need.

I'm really wondering where you're pulling some of this stuff from, because while you're either incredibly backwards or mocking my post by exaggerating it, you're exaggerating stuff that isn't there, not just with my post there but with Boba_Fett's too.

No, they just want the upper class to pay their fair share.
Who do you think get elected to congress?

I agree, but you're twisting his statement and you put words that had nothing to do with it into his mouth.
At no point in that statement did he say anything about taking people who need it off social programs, he specifically said that the people who DON'T need them are the ones who should be targeted.
I'm not attacking your position, I'm attacking how you're rebutting to him.

How much do you consider fair?

We need to start somewhere, we cant just keep ignoring the problem.

But who is abusing it? You hear about it all the time, and yet I never see anyone abusing the system.

Where is the abuse of the system here?

Look behind her.
Affirmative Action is just racism.
Affirmative action to a certain degree is a bit acceptable. I still believe that universities should accept people on the basis of their efforts and academic excellence. The color of the skin you're born with should not be the deciding factor on whether or not you'll be accepted.

Greater than the percentage of the wealth they control.
75% of the wealth goes to the upper class. They pay 65%.
So in spite of being able to afford the most, they pay the least.
HERP DERP.
Where is the abuse of the system here?
She is well off enough to own a very large television, yet "needs" government subsidies to pay her heating bill. In Georgia.

Was that part really necessary? Come on.
But who is abusing it? You hear about it all the time, and yet I never see anyone abusing the system.
I do. Trust me, it happens. My mother is a social worker, and through her volunteerism and my volunteering with her, we've both seen people who obviously abuse the system, mostly int he area of medical assistance and drug treatment. Some of my aunts' and uncles' exes abuse welfare and unemployment quite liberally. My one uncle's ex's whole family practically lives off of unemployment for bullshit reasons. If you stroll through poorer cities, it is not too difficult to find. I know several corrupt doctors and clinics myself who will find excuses to get you on welfare and disability.
It exists, and while those who don't abuse it overshadow those who do, it is a problem.
But way to avoid my statement about how I agree with you, and that I was attacking your rebuttal, which your rebuttal to my post had nothing to do with.
Hell, driving through Detroit you actually see billboards for clinics and doctors that ask "Need help with disability payments?" "Need disability checks?" "Get certified for medical marijuana".
It still gets cold in the south.. granted that doesn't explain the TV, i'm explaining the need for heat in georgia
Okay, fair enough. They had a pretty nasty winter this year.
She is well off enough to own a very large television, yet "needs" government subsidies to pay her heating bill. In Georgia.
what a stupid assumption to make, how do you know that's her very large television? there's no context and you're just taking an unlabeled picture as reasoning for "the system is being abused" which is pathetic.
Look behind her.
She was unemployed for a year.
She needs help because she is paying off her debt now that she is employed.
Presumably, given the tiny sum of money you can pull from the government in the best of times, she already owned those. Assuming they are even at her house in the first place. Or perhaps she bought them second hand. We have no idea. All we know is that, on paper, she meets the requirement for this aid and is therefore entitled to it. What should we do? Inspect people's homes and make them sell all of their worldly possessions before we help them now?

An employed person no less. Who, rather than declare bankruptcy, has apparently elected to pay off her debt.
