as i've said earlier, i don't really find the joke all that offensive (or even funny at all really, but i guess i'm not penny arcades target audience) i've been more talking about the backlash from the penny arcade community and penny arcade themselves, it's indicative of the greater problems of these and other gaming communities that they feel it's okay to go after women and feminists and rape victims in such awful ways. that's what makes these kind of jokes harmful, because on a subconscious level it makes this behaviour seem alright to them

penny arcade is a well-executed comic staffed by completely upstanding people. they organize massive charities, and the reason they exist is to make people laugh while poking at issues and trends in the video game world. They used rape in a joke to illustrate how horrible the victim's life is.
