torture and torture victims aren't marginalized within this community
Idunno. I gave a shrug when I saw tortured and crucified people in New Vegas. The game intentionally makes you shrug at them, even though they're not even nailed there, they're tied with rope. lol. [editline]17th December 2013[/editline]
torture and torture victims aren't marginalized within this community [editline]18th December 2013[/editline] i don't have the power to censor anyone or anything so i really don't know what you're on about
You called for them to change themselves because of others insecurities. Forced change and an assimilation of ideas to appease.
Because the worse the NPC had it, the better the punchline would be The joke actually has fuck all to do with rape, "raped" could have been replaced with "beaten" or "tortured" and it would still be the same joke
but that would trigger people who have been beaten or tortured! the best option obviously would just cut the first two panels and go straight to the punchline so nobody is offended about anything ever.

Like seriously. The phrase "Dick wolves" [editline]17th December 2013[/editline]
that's not censorship though? obviously they have to choose to do that, censorship is force. you were saying to criticize, if someone changes due to criticisms is that censorship?
Criticism with details to the responsible areas; and demanding change, compensation, and a backrub are two different things.
torture and torture victims aren't marginalized within this community
Are milkman jokes funny, then?
Yeah then it would be offensive to people who are victims of child abuse, domestic violence, etc. The entire point is the slaves are in a living hell, and you kinda need to write about awful things to write about a living hell "Every night the gigglebunnies tickle us to sleep!" doesn't carry quite the same weight as is needed for the joke
as i've said earlier, i don't really find the joke all that offensive (or even funny at all really, but i guess i'm not penny arcades target audience) i've been more talking about the backlash from the penny arcade community and penny arcade themselves, it's indicative of the greater problems of these and other gaming communities that they feel it's okay to go after women and feminists and rape victims in such awful ways. that's what makes these kind of jokes harmful, because on a subconscious level it makes this behaviour seem alright to them [editline]18th December 2013[/editline]
Like seriously. [editline]18th December 2013[/editline] i want change but i'm not going to force it because i can't [editline]18th December 2013[/editline]
Are milkman jokes funny, then?
dunno, i've never heard a funny one so maybe not
They weren't going after feminists and rape victims. This chick was attacking them for it and made merchandise and all this other extreme shit about it, claiming she was raped and shit when she turned out to be a con. She was the only genuinely targeted person, but that was because she lied about the issue in an attempt to gain support. Gabe told people to calm their tits, to stop, and to fuck off if they went after others.
and this had to be done using rape why exactly? like, fair enough that's a reasonable response (although i still feel like rape just doesn't have a place in humour) but it sure seems to me like rape is the go-to thing for 'gamers' or whatever to add into shit
I think you're reading way too much into it.
as i've said earlier, i don't really find the joke all that offensive (or even funny at all really, but i guess i'm not penny arcades target audience) i've been more talking about the backlash from the penny arcade community and penny arcade themselves, it's indicative of the greater problems of these and other gaming communities that they feel it's okay to go after women and feminists and rape victims in such awful ways. that's what makes these kind of jokes harmful, because on a subconscious level it makes this behaviour seem alright to them
man just listen to yourself you're saying people should change their humor because it's desensitizing? that doesn't remind you of the arguments against violence in video games, rap music, anything like that?
man just listen to yourself you're saying people should change their humor because it's desensitizing? that doesn't remind you of the arguments against violence in video games, rap music, anything like that?
well, personally i think they should change their humour because i don't think it's funny but whatever maybe that's just me. overall i think they shouldn't just add fuel to the fire of gamer communities marginalizing the minority groups within them. and i feel they ARE trying to change these attitudes with their diversity lounge thing [editline]18th December 2013[/editline] with your thing about rap music and that, i guess it could be compared to how many rap artists get involved with community projects and shit like that to try and improve the situations they detail in their songs rather than perpetuate them

I just don't tolerate people who lie about being victims, mainly as a result of my families background. I think that her making up a rape story and lying about it all was a worse offense then the Penny Arcade strip. You can be an activist. That's fine. But don't be a liar and a fraud.
well, personally i think they should change their humour because i don't think it's funny but whatever maybe that's just me. overall i think they shouldn't just add fuel to the fire of gamer communities marginalizing the minority groups within them. and i feel they ARE trying to change these attitudes with their diversity lounge thing [editline]18th December 2013[/editline] with your thing about rap music and that, i guess it could be compared to how many rap artists get involved with community projects and shit like that to try and improve the situations they detail in their songs rather than perpetuate them
nothing says diversity like segregating the minorities to their own area.
That's a very dangerous mentality
no it's not i didn't really mean it how i think you think i meant it
well, personally i think they should change their humour because i don't think it's funny but whatever maybe that's just me. overall i think they shouldn't just add fuel to the fire of gamer communities marginalizing the minority groups within them. and i feel they ARE trying to change these attitudes with their diversity lounge thing [editline]18th December 2013[/editline] with your thing about rap music and that, i guess it could be compared to how many rap artists get involved with community projects and shit like that to try and improve the situations they detail in their songs rather than perpetuate them
penny arcade is a well-executed comic staffed by completely upstanding people. they organize massive charities, and the reason they exist is to make people laugh while poking at issues and trends in the video game world. They used rape in a joke to illustrate how horrible the victim's life is. how in the world would anyone consider anything of what they've done to be offensive?
nothing says diversity like segregating the minorities to their own area.
nothing says 'i didn't read the article or the information about this' like this post. read it, this area is for EVERYONE it's for educating about diversity within the gaming community
In five years, they've generated over 17 million dollars for charity. Oh no they made a joke that had rape in it. BURN THE GLASSES WEARING HEATHENS.
nothing says 'i didn't read the article or the information about this' like this post. read it, this area is for EVERYONE it's for educating about diversity within the gaming community
My favorite part
their own security teams specially trained in “Safe Zone Training” (whatever that is),

In five years, they've generated over 17 million dollars for charity. Oh no they made a joke that had rape in it. lol at "people of color" makes them sound like aliens or some shit
so giving to charity gives you a freepass suddenly? you guys are missing the point of the thread anyway, i've just been trying to defend the purpose of them having their diversity lounge or whatever
Yeah p much. A slight joke and a personal opinion is all that. Personal. They didn't elevate it. Courtney Stanton did when she made her shirts, and Penny arcade made shirts in response. They give back literally thousands fold for ever jibe or crack they make that offends. [editline]17th December 2013[/editline]
lol at "people of color" makes them sound like aliens or some shit
Forcibly relocated aliens. [editline]17th December 2013[/editline] GJ Courtney. It was literally gone for a month and she brought it back up lol.
lol at "people of color" makes them sound like aliens or some shit
or it makes them sound like people of colour?
or it makes them sound like people of colour?
Are we not all colors? Various shades of bronze? Be it lighter or darker, or mixed with another alloy to make brass (Asians)
Are we not all colors? Various shades of bronze? Be it lighter or darker, or mixed with another alloy to make brass (Asians)
they mean brown people
Are we not all colors? Various shades of bronze? Be it lighter or darker, or mixed with another alloy to make brass (Asians)
i'm not gonna reply to you anymore because you completely miss the point with everyone of your posts and it seems to me like you just want to be an asshole and not get criticized for it
or it makes them sound like people of colour?
I'm pretty sure you aren't supposed to say people of colour since it makes white people out to be the "proper" colour. But hey I see SJWs using it all the time so I must be wrong.
I'm pretty sure you aren't supposed to say people of colour since it makes white people out to be the "proper" colour. But hey I see SJWs using it all the time so I must be wrong.
yeah you're wrong
i'm not gonna reply to you anymore because you completely miss the point with everyone of your posts and it seems to me like you just want to be an asshole and not get criticized for it
I'm just saying that you need to see people as human. Humans with different stories, but humans none the less. You have a culture, you have a background. But I see you as a human, not a black man, or a brown man. But as a man. You start assigning people designations like that and you end up thinking of them as furniture.
yeah you're wrong
why
I'm just saying that you need to see people as human. Humans with different stories, but humans none the less. You have a culture, you have a background.
