Roger Penrose is a senile old man who refused to back down when people proved wrong his assumption that the human brain relies on quantum events and is therefore irreproducible. He spends his days mumbling around and misinterpreting the meaning of Gödel's theorem and applying it to his quantum-mind theory that has long been disproven.
Quantum events in the brain are too sparse, too small, happen for too little time, yet Penrose continues to believe that the human mind is oh so special.
AND in this case, he never specified (In the articles I have read) the system for restarting entropy.
So yeah, I call dubious on this one.
That's cool and all, but what the hell does that have to do with the idea that the universe is cyclical?

That Roger Penrose proposed this, that's why. Look at the OP's picture, it's signed "R. PENROSE" right there.

I noticed that. However, I don't think his refusal to give up on a flawed theory immediately discredits every theory he works on.
Wasn't this discovered ages ago? I believe you are late by four hundred years.
The CMBR was discovered decades ago but the idea about the variations in it due to gravitational waves in it is new.

Our ENTIRE thought processes are a result of electrical currents throughout our brain. Electrons are subatomic particles small enough that quantum effects are apparent. In that sense, the brain IS influenced by quantum events.

Oh come on, I can't be the only person who hasn't thought this...
This is fascinating stuff to read about, regardless of how 'duh' some seem to think it all is.
its like we see gods hand planting galaxies everywhere
Nah I think it's more likely that the universe rebounds between big bang and fully extended to big bang to full extended.
Not some asshats hand planting matter around the joint.

Call me when you have this built.

A god of some sort must be behind it all! Well not must, but no one can be so smart to make it all happen, except a godly being
Someone's been watching too much sgu, that is all.

I think what he's saying is that every theory he's worked on has been wrong, so this one isn't likely to be different.

And I piss rainbow sherbet and shit pots of gold.
Oh wait I thought we were telling lies v:v:v

So when scientists reach the final discovery, an answer to our existence, whatever it is they are driving to with their researches, they will hear a sound from God stating "lol what are you doing scientists? go have fun, go fuck each other"
There is no final answer.
That implies there was a question that required an answer relating to our existence, that is the realm of philosophy not science.
If anything the answer is this: "We exist, nothing more, nothing less"
Ah holy fuck this is interesting, I love the universe. I keep thinking every night why things are how they are, and why we're on this planet, in this milky way, in this universe. This is awesome.
[editline]29th November 2010[/editline]
What the fuck, so this theory suggest that there are multiple galaxies? I wonder what must be between them.
Didn't they find the background radiation ages ago?
Didn't they find the background radiation ages ago?
Yes but they just found the spikes in the CMBR.
Penrose ? Didn't this guy work with Hawking ?

We already know there are multiple galaxies. If I'm not mistaken, the point of this is that there are/were older universes. I don't see how this makes things cyclical though. What if the other shit is just really far away? What if big bangs keep happening at one spot?
Our ENTIRE thought processes are a result of electrical currents throughout our brain. Electrons are subatomic particles small enough that quantum effects are apparent. In that sense, the brain IS influenced by quantum events.
No. The wave function collapses in a matter of a few dozens of femtoseconds, so quantum events have VERY little relevance in a fully-functioning human brain running at, well, brain temperature.
I've kind of went with the theory that the universe is in a cycle of compression and expansion continuously, and that there was another universe here before this, etc, so this wasn't a surprise to me.
