Anecdotal, I was able to transfer ownership of my mother's copy of spore and now its mine. [editline]16th July 2011[/editline] I've seen worse. But is anecdotal, you get caught hacking once even if its not you on the computer or using your account and you lose everything.
you don't lose everything, you're just banned from VAC servers on that game. Any way valve have made it virtually impossible to hack someone now so this isn't much of a problem any more.
I bought something using EADM a few years back (Was BF2 I think at the time, as it wasn't on Steam and the complete edition was cheaper than retail). I didn't log into my EADM account after that (my BF2 account I did though) and eventually they wiped the entire account apart from my BF2142:NS dlc. Don't tell me that EA have put it in there as a backup clause because they damn well will use it.
I am hating EA right now. Because in 2008, the year Spore got released, if you asked anyone who their most hated game publisher was, they'd say EA. They came out of the DRM debate when it was at it's fiercest looking like a pack of jackasses, greedy jackasses at that, and proceeded over the remainder of the next few months to drunkenly backpedal on their previously firm DRM stance. However, Modern Warfare 2 came and changed the situation drastically. As it came out, Activision started with it's now familiar verbal diarrhea and player disrespect (especially in PC's case). They followed the tarnished reputation of COD up by beating to death the Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk franchises and ignoring all others to milk the COD cash cow. Follow this up with the Infinity Ward debacle and even more cases of verbal diarrhea from Bobby Kotick, and now Activision is by far the most hated game company. EA however, has kept relatively quiet, other than their pathetic attempt to combat COD with MOH. Now, they have the chance to boost their reputation significantly by taking down COD, and since Activision's business practices have made it so they're one and the same, Activision itself. Since MW3 lacks the Infinity Ward skill and talent that made the last ones blockbusters and will be the rehashiest of rehashes (seriously in all of the previews they've had thus far there was nary an original set piece), BF3 is in a really good spot to take it out in both sales and critical reception. This would look awesome, but EA is now using whatever good will there is coming from BF3 and/or the fact their past crimes aren't in the front of our minds, and pissing it away. And for what? To compete with Steam? To try and get a piece of that tasty download service pie? This isn't a gamble, it's a fucking retarded idea. First of all, the whole online gaming platform thing isn't an open market. Steam dominates. Why? Look at the sale they just had, that's why. They treat their customers pretty damn well, and have a huge catalog. Any territory that isn't under Steam's control is in control of Direct to Drive and GOG as well. So here comes EA, with a program that only has EA games and standard prices (from the looks of it higher than standard actually). This is retarded. Every week now EA is doing something absolutely retarded related to Origin. They are readying a gun to shoot themselves, and every thing they've done so far has loaded another god damn bullet into the gun. I'm just wondering when they're going to pull the trigger at this point. /rant
I've seen worse. But is anecdotal, you get caught hacking once even if its not you on the computer or using your account and you lose everything.
VAC doesn't delete your games, you lose the ability to play online on games with that engine (gmod is an exception, a VAC ban in gmod is only for gmod)
Well I guess someone has to fuck up for other companies to get the idea
VAC doesn't delete your games, you lose the ability to play online on games with that engine (gmod is an exception, a VAC ban in gmod is only for gmod)
Soo...if you get a VAC ban from TF2, anything on source that uses multiplayer is out the window?
This is just hilarious. Why does EA have no idea how to do things nicely?
Soo...if you get a VAC ban from TF2, anything on source that uses multiplayer is out the window?
Only things on the same branch of the engine I think. So TF2 kills just TF2, where CS: S should kill CS: S, DoD: S and HL2: DM as they use the same engine now I think. Or is CS: S on it's own version based of the TF2 one?
Soo...if you get a VAC ban from TF2, anything on source that uses multiplayer is out the window?
Any VAC-secured server on the same version of source, yeah. Not sure what all runs on the same engine as TF2

Cmon EA, it's like you're forcing me to not like you.
Welp looks like im going to have to get bf3 from wallmart.
and i'll forget about this and 2 years later i won't have bad company 2.
Soo...if you get a VAC ban from TF2, anything on source that uses multiplayer is out the window?
Only on Vac servers.
I don't know why everyone is acting surprised. After the infamous three install limit fiasco, we should have expected them to take the next step.
EA slaps me on the knee. Can't believe they're the publisher for Battlefield 3.
I normally buy games retail anyways (because I don't have a credit card) but if I did I wouldn't use Origin. They're just stealing the games you bought from them.
EA now officially fucking sucks.
Welp looks like im going to have to get bf3 from wallmart.
speaking of, does anyone have proof retail copies are going to force Origin on you, I know as far as if you need an update/DLC you'd have too.
speaking of, does anyone have proof retail copies are going to force Origin on you, I know as far as if you need an update/DLC you'd have too.
I don't think it's been confirmed either way yet
My retail games don't vanish if I haven't played them for 2 years.
They just had to fuck up Battlefield 3. Good thing they can't hurt BF2
The only game I have on Origin is a copy of Mass Effect 2 they gifted me last year after the APB fiasco. I bought the game again while it was on sale on Steam last week :colbert:
Now I know why I'm getting the console version of Battlefield 3.
This is only for new EA games right? So I won't lose anything I bought before now?
Wait I have serious question, who the hell goes on a two year hiatus? I know its possible.
All games (bar HL2: DM, but I think that is as well) are now on the TF2 engine.
Ah, couldn't remember which were and which weren't any more. [editline]17th July 2011[/editline]
speaking of, does anyone have proof retail copies are going to force Origin on you, I know as far as if you need an update/DLC you'd have too.
Origin doesn't have the capability to update games, though I don't know about DLC, proper expansions like BC2: Vietnam do download through it, and I assume smaller DLCs will too. But you still don't need to use the program if you buy it retail and ignore the DLC, assuming that other distributors don't get it. It isn't DRM, it doesn't need to run.
Im going to buy BF3, therefor I have to use origin.
wow what assholes i used to like ea too
This is exactly what I was talking about in the Call of Duty thread when I said EA hasn't really changed. [editline]17th July 2011[/editline] And just goes to show one of the reasons I don't want an origin account.
