EA/Origin: If you don't log in for 2 years we'll delete all the games you paid for
Ah, couldn't remember which were and which weren't any more.

Origin doesn't have the capability to update games, though I don't know about DLC, proper expansions like BC2: Vietnam do download through it, and I assume smaller DLCs will too. But you still don't need to use the program if you buy it retail and ignore the DLC, assuming that other distributors don't get it. It isn't DRM, it doesn't need to run.
But if you have to tie your BF3 account to Origin, and you just log into BF3 without Origin... in 2 years, you won't have a game you paid for and still play.
I like how Valve can manage to keep your account, but a rich as fuck giant company like EA doesn't.

Yeah, but still, compare EA games, a company made in '82, the current biggest publisher of video games with ~8000 employees to Valve, a company from '96 and around 260 employees.
its like EA WANTS to be hated

I think you'll find they just clear the origin content, not the entire account. Though as the EA account is shared between them, playing the game with that account should count as activity, and shouldn't give them reason to remove it for inactivity.
Wow, if Origin is REQUIRED for BF3, I might contemplate getting it for XBOX360.

Even Origin doesn't kill the game enough to put yourself through that, surely. It's a installer, that is it. The community stuff is there if you want it, but it shouldn't be required to run the game. It'll probably use SecureROM like the older BF and BC2 does.
In all honesty, when the hell is anyone ever going to be away from their computer for longer than two years? I don't like origin, but logging into something every once in a while isn't hard.
Wait I have serious question, who the hell goes on a two year hiatus? I know its possible.
Well people who join the military for one example.
I suppose people who end up in jail or the hospital for a while are good examples too.
Man what the hell facepunch stop breaking my posts.

I was planning on deleting it as soon as I didn't need it.
I bought something using EADM a few years back (Was BF2 I think at the time, as it wasn't on Steam and the complete edition was cheaper than retail). I didn't log into my EADM account after that (my BF2 account I did though) and eventually they wiped the entire account apart from my BF2142:NS dlc.
Don't tell me that EA have put it in there as a backup clause because they damn well will use it.
It is EADM, but it is likely the same thing.

You honestly think people want to use 2 clients? No, they will only use Origin when they have to (activate the game) and then uninstall it FOREVER.
Yeah, this is EA's way of forcing people to use the client - even if once every 2 years. They know if they can get you to check in on it more than once, even just to keep your games, they might be able to hook you on something (think the Steam "Update News" ads whenever you log-on to Steam).

EA isn't that considerate though :(.

Just to set a point of reference, Steam has a similar clause in regards to the company pulling game availability. When you purchase a Valve game, you are purchasing a subscription which Valve has the right to revoke for no reason whatsoever. It's actually part of the EULA.
The difference, of course, is that Gabe has said this will never be put in use iirc. Nor does it rely on user activity.
If I buy a game I should be allowed to keep it regardless if I'm active or not.
Exactly, it's absolutely stupid to even think otherwise.
MMO server support comes and goes, but you should still always keep the game.
Hey EA, you see your sales chart?
Its going
DOWN

its like EA WANTS to be hated
Your avatar is basically EA whenever they come out with a shit idea
EA sucks dicks, I lost my BF2 manual(which contains the serial on it), and upon my request to get a new activation code, now they want me to rebuy BF2 directly from them. I may or may not have told the customer service representative my frank and honest opinion of his employer when he informed me of that.
Wait isn't the whole 2 year thing illegal? It's the exact same as stealing regardless of whether or not you agreed to the terms or not. First you pay full price for the game, then they take it back as if you were renting it just because you haven't logged in for 2 years? What if you join the army? What if you one day you want that old nostalgic feeling of playing BF3 again 2 years after you stopped playing it? It's taking something you bought with your hard earned cash and taking it away, which is the definition of stealing.
I asked Kate on EA's website and she said if that happens after 24 months, your account will remain active in their database and they'll reopen it again.
But I could tell Kate was kind of slut so I can't be sure.
Well, that's one important thing to put in the best-selling advice book titled "How Not To Run A Video Game Business". You can find it under Chapter 3: Digital Distribution Services.
Someone should probably actually WRITE that damn book.
Also, just when you think Activision's a whole lot worse than EA, EA closes the gap by being an arse. It's like a race or a contest!
I dearly hope it doesn't fuck with my Steam copy of Dragon Age, although why should it?
I think all publishers are assholes in their own unique way.
If Battlefield 3 requires Origin, I wish it would be possible to know how it affects the sales figures.
If it's just a dumb download manager that isn't required to play the game, it might not be as bad for them.
But then again, EA really likes being a massive dick, I wouldn't be surprised if it initially didn't require Origin, but it became a requirement in a later patch.
They've done this before with EADM.
As kneejerk as it is I kinda have to ask, if you don't even log in for 2 years do you even give a shit? Would you really care in the slightest, if it's been abandoned for that long then I think it's safe to say you didn't plan on coming back.
surely this is in violation of our statutory rights?
