Because Shaw is so wonderful with its 300kb/s for $80 (basic cable included) in Vancouver.
Also, I hear there is a Vancouver movement to get ISPs deemed "public services", which means it would cut bills down to like $5 or something.
I would whole-heartedly support that motion.
Time to move to the states..
BRB Moving to America... Not.
Why not? They can coexist with private ones.
You see, there isn't a big "socialism" scare here in Canada. We don't get our shit in a knot and start screaming "SLIPPERY SLOPE" every time the government does something.
You live in Saskatchewan don't you?
SaskTel is probably the absolute worst ISP I have every dealt with.. Is it just coincidence they are government owned?
I hate them because they have a monopoly. They don't allow any competition and it sucks ass. That's why I switched my cell phone to Telus. Before I was paying $60 per month. Now I pay $35 with the same features plus 5 friends I can call for free nationwide.
Just a little rant about SaskTel.
Lol, Canadians.

scroll down
* $35.00/month regular price when bundled with any other Shaw service
* $43.95/month standalone
not even close to $80/month for 300 kbps

Sasktel is the only ISP in my area (very remote) so of course it's expensive. But I've never had any reliability problems.
And when comparing ISPs in the urban areas of Saskatchewan, Sasktel still looks to be the best deal.
only in canada
Don't worry, if there is a chance of a profitable market then surely a competetor would come along and take away those costumers who pay for increased access, by just having regular broadband with no limits to it.
Then the other company would be forced to do the same if to many people went back to the older system with the other company.
At least if this happened, I would be quick to form a group of investors which would come together and see the big picture of this :P

Bell owns all the lines that pretty much every ISP in this country uses.

God dammit. Fucking bell. It's not like 300$ makes sense for an internet bill.

With the pathetic state of disrepair the internet and phone infrastructure is in this country, I wouldn't be surprised if upkeep costs them more than it should.
