• People crying because no women presented during the Sony announcement

I'd say that having random females up there is more sexist than not having any. It's sort of saying, "well we know you're not doing anything for this project, but that's okay, even though you're worthless we'll tack you on anyway." It seems to objectify people in that sense, if a woman didn't do something, then don't give one credit for it. Same for anyone and anything.
idk man the one in the front looks good
it feels so damn pretentious. it's a bunch of rich guys sitting around stroking their ego and patting themselves on the back over how damn rich and idustrious thy are. it just bugs me, the events reek of smugness and self-importance.
no offense but if I was super rich, damn right I'd be smug and egotistical moneys a bitch like that
Game dev just isn't something a lot of women get into. I am say IF men can do it better because in this case I am assuming they didn't have a lead dev who was ahead of any of these current presenters who they didn't let present because she was female. Therefore, one can assume that the men presenting can "do it better" as it were. How many actual presenters were there anyway because I can't find out anywhere and from what I can find it looks like they had like... 5.
yea but there are a lot of societal reasons a lot of girls don't get into these fields. like i said it might not be sexism on sony's part, it's sexism on the industry's part, and sexism on society's part, that made sure that women weren't likely to be up making the announcements.
Also why do people keep saying only white dudes, cause looking at that photo the guy in top right does not look very white to me.
sry your right i was making my assumption from the tweets, not the photo.

Or even just the game industry. Thats a huge thing if you want to get into it that in some cases applies to males, other females, and covers many many industries. edit: Not saying it's okay just saying this specific way of attacking it is just dumb. The people complaining about it are contributing just as much to the problem as the people they usually blame.
There used to be numerous female programmers in the 1970s, but they declined severely when the gaming industry rose. What happened?
Because programming was seen as menial labor and delegated to secretaries (usually female). When people started to realize the importance of programming, it quickly became what it is today.
boohoo the patriarchy is oppressing us all call me when you're a pansexual otherkin dolphin
how'd you know about my fursona?
I would rather see an all-man panel than see an objectified woman being used as a selling tool, but it speaks volumes that they didn't have a single woman or non white/asian presenting. You can compare it to the fact that most big budget movies in the USA, a multiracial and pretty inclusive society, star white males almost exclusively. Are each and every one of the movies with only white males in them as developed characters racist and sexist? NO. Does it reflect a huge structural problem within Hollywood that needs to be solved? YES.
There used to be numerous female programmers in the 1970s, but they declined severely when the gaming industry rose. What happened?
Male supernerds took over. And we all know how well they function around women other than their mother(s)

Riiiiigghhttt
eh, it's kind of valid. I remember there was a dev conference that was cancelled because there were no women speakers; kind of dumb but meh, you've got to bring up the issue of diversity somehow, especially in such a male dominated industry as computing [editline]21st February 2013[/editline]
Oh for fucks.. That's like saying that Sony is racist as well because there weren't any black people on stage.. Also she had another saying that if EA does something sexist, she'll buy Activision products instead :v:
this is literally fucking retarded though [editline]21st February 2013[/editline]
So no women on stage automatically equals sexism? No room for other considerations like, say, maybe there aren't any women holding positions that would qualify them to talk on stage?
Why is that though? If the gender balance is that skewed then it shows something that ought to be looked into. While I hate kotaku they raise a valid point, even in their hamfisted borderline retarded way.
Saying shit about sexism while she has a profile picture like that. Riiiiigghhttt
you know people who complain about sexism are usually incredible at sex
Saying shit about sexism while she has a profile picture like that. Riiiiigghhttt
She's editor in chief of a cosplay website, it would follow that she'd be in cosplay in at least a few of her profile pictures. And since cosplay isn't art and is just mimicry blame the people who designed the character she's dressing up as. Regardless doesn't change that saying 'oh sony's presenters aren't very diverse, OH I'LL BUY SOMETHING ELSE TO PROTEST' is fucking retarded, I fucking hate it when people are like that, it's the most passive aggressive form of protest ever, it's almost as bad as 'oh I hate activision's business strategies, I'll buy BF3 instead of MW3, ea are just so much more ethical and dice won't sell out!'
Saying shit about sexism while she has a profile picture like that. Riiiiigghhttt
What do you mean, "a profile picture like that" ?
why do you care so much about how people spend their money
I just don't think that saying 'oh I'll buy something else that serves virtually the same function' is a valid form of protest
I just don't think that saying 'oh I'll buy something else that serves virtually the same function' is a valid form of protest
who cares you're getting mad over something that literally has no impact on you
Actual solution of the problem: Encourage and promote females getting education and employment in the industry. What actually happens: People bitch and moan about how bad and unfair the society is and how Sony is satan's cult for not having women to present shit. Seriously, yeah, it's not a good situation, but if they pulled in some lass who had no idea what she was talking about just to have a female presence there, giving her a written script and that shit, I would find it only worse and further insulting. Maybe they could have gotten a dedicated female translator for the non-english part, but if they already lack women in the actual occupations, they can't just summon them out of thin air.
What do you mean, "a profile picture like that" ?
she's obviously a whoreslutfriendzoner who's just asking to be treated like sexmeat with her penis-seducing ways so she can complain about sexism and bash us poor men
What's worse is that there were no trans people presenting!
What's worse is that there were no trans people presenting!
Bracing for impact...
There weren't any augs either, fucking humanity front bigots
The crux of the issue is that the games industry isn't a welcoming workplace for women. A lack of female presenters is symptomatic of the broader industry discrimination. No one is asking to have unqualified women flown in, nor to have quotas filled. These things are brought up on Twitter because there are such simple measures that could, at the very least, lessen the bullshit that women have to put up with to be part of the industry. For one, whenever a woman dares put her head above the parapet, she's berated like no male presenter (or journalist, for that matter). People reserve all of their angry tirades for Patricia Hernandez like no other journalist on Kotaku or anywhere else in gaming media. Her article didn't even say anything nearly radical. She pointed out that there were no women, she said that the industry is in a sorry state in terms of equality. Is that so disagreeable?
Surely it's more sexist to act like this is significant than doing it in the first place. Some people are fucking morons.
The article isn't saying "there needs a quota to be filled" but that's what most posts in here are arguing against. Can't you people think ahead a bit more?
kotaku makes me mad I feel like they make controversial articles just for cash sometimes.
It isn't sexist but the reactions invoke sexism because its making me think that women are a bunch moany bitches right now.
this is why i need feminism!!. :'(( No, but seriously, this is really stupid.
