Do we really need to have all jobs filled with 50% of men and 50% of women or otherwise be criticized for sexism? If there's evidence they have turned down equally good female Game workers because they were female then that's something to complain about.

She didn't call for a quota or anything else.
What's worse is that there were no trans people presenting!
What if there were, just very good ftm trans?
Surely it's more sexist to act like this is significant than doing it in the first place. Some people are fucking morons.
someone actually typed this into their computer and were serious from what I can tell hahahaha
I just don't think that saying 'oh I'll buy something else that serves virtually the same function' is a valid form of protest
how is not giving them money but giving their competitor some not a good protest?
how is not giving them money but giving their competitor some not a good protest?
Did nintendo have any women at their presentation? I don't remember.
Are there not more pressing issues in the world to be concerned about than this?
I don't understand why this is even a thing, surely it's common sense that there are no women on stage because they don't have relevant jobs. If women can be directors, presidents and CEOs in other industries they can do it in the games industry. It's just their choice that they're not. Also, why have I never seen this picture before? It's hilarious!
Did nintendo have any women at their presentation? I don't remember.
They haven't for quite some time, and that's because the lady they had for a few years left Nintendo a while back. The last time they really had Women at a Nintendo conference was when they announced the 3DS, when a ton of women came out holding them and giving them out to people to people who were at the conference.
"I also noticed there were no fat people, black people or children presenting. Damn Sony and their prejudice. These conferences need to be less about excited creators delivering information on their products and more about parading around physically diverse presenters." Win.
The crux of the issue is that the games industry isn't a welcoming workplace for women. A lack of female presenters is symptomatic of the broader industry discrimination. No one is asking to have unqualified women flown in, nor to have quotas filled. These things are brought up on Twitter because there are such simple measures that could, at the very least, lessen the bullshit that women have to put up with to be part of the industry. For one, whenever a woman dares put her head above the parapet, she's berated like no male presenter (or journalist, for that matter). People reserve all of their angry tirades for Patricia Hernandez like no other journalist on Kotaku or anywhere else in gaming media. Her article didn't even say anything nearly radical. She pointed out that there were no women, she said that the industry is in a sorry state in terms of equality. Is that so disagreeable?
Basically this. A big part of the problem is that it is, just like right now, silenced as soon as it's brought up for discussion, classified as "overreacting" or "trying to find something to complain about" and so on. A lot of people are missing the point.
I'm currently taking a University course called 'Game Art'. There simply aren't very many women. The ratio is horrific, with probably 9 males per female. I don't think it's the industry itself that is the issue. Gaming isn't as popular among females as it is males, and so less females are exposed to potential interest in becoming a part of the industry. I don't blame chicks for not enjoying online games, girls are like magnets for the kids who trash talk over their mics. It simply isn't enjoyable. I don't think Sony purposely chose only men, but rather those who were acceptable for the presentation, and with a larger pool of men than women, there was a higher chance of the more skilled members being male. TLDR: It's not Sony it's the industry.
This was just an awkward coincidence, I am sure it wasn't deliberate.

When your field is filled with fedora-wearing, libertarian, sexist men who aren't nearly as smart nor intellectual as they think they are, don't be surprised if women don't want to join and make games themselves. I know I sure as hell wouldn't want to work with passive-aggressive manbabies making snide sexist remarks.
There used to be numerous female programmers in the 1970s, but they declined severely when the gaming industry rose. What happened?
Probably since the "all programmers are fat male nerds who get beat up at school and can't keep away from their computer for more than a minute" stereotype became popular in the early 80's. Everything that Patricia Hernandez writes is garbage; she likes to create a situation where there is none, and a lot of the time what she writes isn't even about video games.

[editline]21st February 2013[/editline] In all seriousness, this is just fuckin stupid. it's like saying Haiti is racist cause there aren't white people living there.
Oh for fucks.. That's like saying that Sony is racist as well because there weren't any black people on stage.. Also she had another saying that if EA does something sexist, she'll buy Activision products instead :v:
Hope she likes Mario then. If she is so pissed that Sony didn't have any female presenters, then she should go be a game developer, and maybe get on stage. Not like dev companies are filled with women up to the brim and not to say that "hurr a woman wouldn't know how to present as well as a man", but MAYBE theres someone else who can do a better work on stage presenting their stuff. In short, you shouldn't put someone who doesn't knows what they are talking about on stage, be it male or female, and its not Sony's fault they didn't have a female presenter who could talk about it.
Her writing about the issue doesn't invalidate complaining about the video game industry being male dominated, however.
Her writing about the issue doesn't invalidate complaining about the video game industry being male dominated, however.
Not our fault at most. Girls I know don't usually like videogames at all and call it for nerds.
if you have to make up a fictional situation to prove your point you probably didnt have a salient point to begin with
The entire post is a fictional situation, why single out that particular sentence?

is it because you cant get a joke?
Not our fault at most. Girls I know don't usually like videogames at all and call it for nerds.
Hahahaha 47% of gamers are women.

It's funny that you can instantly recognize the kind of person that would whine about this just by looking at their face on Twitter.
