• Battlefield 3 Exclusive DLC Weapons for Select Pre-orders Strike a Nerve

[release]EA have recently announced that there will be exclusive pre-order bonuses for the upcoming Battlefield 3 that will only be obtainable from select retailers. Currently they have announced that the "Physical warfare pack" DLC will be available from GAME and Gamestation in the UK. This pre-order bonus is in addition to the already announced "Back to Karkand" map pack, but will supposedly be only available to pre-order customers and not purchasable later -- a point which has angered some fans. Included within the pack is the Type 88 Light Machine gun which will be an exclusive weapon, the DAO-12 shotgun which will be a day one unlock as well as Flechette ammo for the DAO-12 shotgun and Flash suppressor for SKS sniper rifle which are both exclusive to this pack. It is unknown how this will affect the balance of the game. With exclusive items and with the Flash suppressor being the only sniper rifle suppressor, will this give pre-order customers an unfair advantage? Currently there is no confirmation of exclusive pre-order bonuses for Australian stores but we can likely assume the usual major retailer suspects (and not the cut-price online retailers that we all frequent). source: Battlefield.com/uk Battlefield 3 is due on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 25 2011. The Battlefield 3 Limited Edition: Physical Warfare Pack is now available for pre-order exclusively at GAME and Gamestation in the UK. Players can storm the battlefield armed with powerful weapons and items only available in the Physical Warfare Pack including the Type 88 light machine gun with bipod for superior firepower and total zone control, the SKS sniper rifle flash suppressor that provides increased stealth abilities for Recon soldiers, and the lethal armour-piercing flechette ammo for the DAO-12 semi-automatic shotgun that is sure to tear through anything in its path. Also included is day one access to the highly versatile DAO-12 semi-automatic shotgun itself. In addition to the launch day exclusive weapons, the Physical Warfare Pack also includes the Battlefield 3 Back to Karkand digital expansion pack. Players can wage all-out war on four of the most celebrated maps from Battlefield 2, including Strike at Karkand, Gulf of Oman and the Sharqi Peninsula, all stunningly re-created using the power of Frostbite™ 2. DICE’s state of the art game engine serves as the power center for Battlefield 3 to deliver superior performance in character animation, visual rendering, audio and physical destruction unlike anything ever seen before.
Okay, fuck you EA.
Not really much of a problem for me.
oh no one exclusive weapon and one that is unlocked we're doomeeedddd
How can you not offer the Karkand map for everyone in what is supposed to be the sequel to BF2.
Making weapons only buy-able from certain retailers or pre-order candy is fine, but doing that for maps is way fucking low. Way. The Type-88 was shit in BFBC2 anyway, so no tears there, DAO-12 is sexy but I can live without it because most of the time shotguns are completely useless in Battlefield games, Flash suppressor is disappointing. The maps hurt the most :smith: [editline]e[/editline] Finally, I'd like to make a point to EA once and for all. Dudes, when you make DLC weapons or Free-2-Play buy-able weapons, you do not use weapons that were already included in BF2 as those weapons. Make new weapons and have those be restricted, restricting weapons that already existed in BF2 makes it feel like instead of adding new content and making it exclusive, you're taking already existing things and making them off limits to everyone else. This is not a cool feeling, it does not make me want to pre-order, it does not make me want to play P4F.
Never understood why they do this. It doesn't really bother me but it's annoying to buy a game and feel like you can never own all the content for some reason.
pre order dlc is dumb, no exceptions
How can you not offer the Karkand map for everyone in what is supposed to be the sequel to BF2.
Um, because it is offered to everyone? People who preorder get it for free when its released after BF3 is released and those that don't can buy it. You're confusing the Physical Warfare pack (exclusive machine gun, muzzle brake, day-one unlock of a shotgun, and exclusive shotgun shell type with Back to Karkand which adds maps, vehicles, and weapons.
Wow, fuck you EA.
You're confusing the Physical Warfare pack (exclusive machine gun, muzzle brake, day-one unlock of a shotgun, and exclusive shotgun shell type with Back to Karkand which adds maps, vehicles, and weapons.
All I see is bullshit. Seriously, it's impossible to make sense of that. I don't even care about weapons really but it makes me feel pretty shitty as a consumer to know I don't have access to certain things in the game I just bought.
pre order dlc is dumb, no exceptions
No it's not. That's one of the reasons why you would pre-order. Everybody should, anyways. It's fucking BF3.
No it's not. That's one of the reasons why you would pre-order. Everybody should, anyways. It's fucking BF3.
So far they've only shown the small scale combat with not a slightest hint for large scale battles like in BF2, so right now it looks to me like an upgraded BC2. Call me when they actually show it's a Battlefield game, then I might preorder it.
No it's not. That's one of the reasons why you would pre-order. Everybody should, anyways. It's fucking BF3.
It's shit like this makes makes me not want to pre-order the game. What about people who don't have the money to blow on a pre-order, or the people who'd rather wait until release so they can know what it's like before spending their money? Why should they miss out on features, and have to pay more for certain extras? And if you do pre-order, you still miss out on shit that you'd get from pre-ordering at other retailers. Lots of people have already cancelled their pre-orders in protest.
No it's not. That's one of the reasons why you would pre-order. Everybody should, anyways. It's fucking BF3.
Missing out on content is never good, even when it's battlefield. I don't have the money to preorder it and wont have the money to preorder it or buy until a while after the game is out. So I have to lose out on content because I can't immediately get the game? That's dumb any way you slice it.

No. Stop extrapolating opinions out of facts. I dislike exclusive crap just as much as the next guy, even in sp games because it means that the game we're getting is not complete. Its why Bioware games are so frustrating sometimes because there's so much cut out stuff like weapons, armor, companions, etc.
are retailers really that desperate
http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/hxtjy/if_you_are_tired_of_exclusive_dlcs_butchering/
Also this http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/hy24b/battlefield_3_preorder_dlc_boycott_coordination/
EA doesn't give a fuck.
No it's not. That's one of the reasons why you would pre-order. Everybody should, anyways. It's fucking BF3.
That would be a solution, but then they go and shit on you again by offering different bonuses for different stores. If I pre-order from Steam, which I will, I'm still not going to get everything cause they've got more exclusive content from Game or some silly store that no one shops at.
Also before you all start attacking the wrong group for this, which happens to facepunchers a lot because the knee jerk reaction syndrome here, this is from the BF3 thread. http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/hxp37/ea_and_dice_are_chopping_battlefield_3_into/c1z8u91
There's probably no chance that anyone is going to see this comment but I'll leave it anyway. I have a very good relationship with a person at DICE, who I don't want to out, who came to me when the physical warfare pack was announced to get me to look through forums to find feedback about the pack that he could give to his superiors at EA. He was upset that they had announced it without the go ahead of DICE and wanted to show EA the reactions of the community. So yes, the exclusives suck but it was EA marketing that did this and DICE knew nothing about it.
I mean, it should be fairly obvious who the culprit is to begin with, and I'm sure most people ended up hounding EA anyways, but this is just to let you know, if its true, that DICE isn't the group that wants to charge for stuff.
i don't think it's ea's fault for the most part it's probably retailers whining to them to give them some extra edge over the competition (aka pre order dlcs) ea is only at fault for agreeing to do it
But the whole Back to Karkand thing isn't a third party retailer exclusive, it was put up by EA on their store prior to the Physical warfare pack for game and gamestation.
Why not just sell one type of BF3 so everyone's happy?
If any more come out then yes, its probably the third party retailers trying to cut a piece of the pie since they know how lucrative it'll be. And EA will oblige since it'll probably garner more sales.
Why not just sell one type of BF3 so everyone's happy?
I guess that's what people are trying to do by canceling preorders and boycotting and what not, but honestly, considering the smashing success of the L4D2 and MW2 boycotts, I doubt a boycott alone would change their minds.
I'd rather it just be a player skin than a weapon.
i don't think it's ea's fault for the most part it's probably retailers whining to them to give them some extra edge over the competition (aka pre order dlcs) ea is only at fault for agreeing to do it
So you're saying EA is not at fault, but they are at fault for doing it.
Oh to work in advertising. Incentives like this will guarantee fans or those on the fence to preorder as a little thanks. BC2 had WW2 weapons and some early stuff that could be unlocked later, I can see these being unlocked in the future so I'm not worried.
I don't understand why everyone's so worried about this, it's only two weapons. bc2 preorders unlocked the thompson, which was one of the worst smgs in the game. I think they'd know better than make these weapons overpowered.
Why not just sell one type of BF3 so everyone's happy?
Replying to my own post, but oh well. What I think EA should do, is just sell one type of BF3, so everyone gets the same thing, then maybe for a limited time when the game releases, just put a message on the main menu to unlock a special gun or whatever by entering the serial code.
So you're saying EA is not at fault, but they are at fault for doing it.

for the most part
of course they still get some blame for going through with it, but they probably would not of done it if the retailers didn't throw a hissy fit what do ea get for doing it? why would they care what retailer sells the most copies of battlefield 3?
