Battlefield 3 Exclusive DLC Weapons for Select Pre-orders Strike a Nerve

It's also worth mentioning that this is exactly why Activision removed dedicated server support from their Call of Duty games, promoting EA to follow suit with Bad Company 2. The companies know games like BF2 and Counter-Strike: Source are still popular because there's still a dedicated modding community making kickass maps, mods, weapons, and gamemodes. They also know that gamers will get bored of the same 10 maps included in new games when they launch, and if they allow a modding community to form, they won't be able to peddle their $15 map packs. So they totally destroyed the greatest part of PC gaming simply to make more money, and to force their games to be obsoleted when they stop making $15 map packs a week before the next $60 game comes out.
Anyone remember when DICE came out and proclaimed that they weren't going to butcher their game by removing dedicated servers, and went on and on about how better they were than Activision? In the end, Activision reversed their previous "no dedicated server" policy and mandated that users must "rent" a dedicated server from a "licensed provider" (in other words, one or two companies with really shitty servers). And look what DICE did! The same fucking thing! You can't get a dedicated server binary like you can for Source Engine games. And the only reason they did that: to ensure absolutely no modding took place.
It's companies like Activision and EA that are destroying PC gaming. I get bored of the generic shooters they're pumping out simply because there's no custom content being produced. Oh, whoopie, two new maps every month, for $15 a pop? No thanks.
Uhh guys, didn't they do something like this with BC2 then release it as free/low priced content a few months later?
Keep your pants on.
I guess that's what people are trying to do by canceling preorders and boycotting and what not, but honestly, considering the smashing success of the L4D2 and MW2 boycotts, I doubt a boycott alone would change their minds.
Sooner or later I'll become an old square totally uninterested in video games, I'd like to think that the industry is warped into a horrible disgusting thing sometime after that point.
Probably just a reskin of another weapon, like the M1 was is in Bad Company 2.
No it's not. That's one of the reasons why you would pre-order.
Everybody should, anyways. It's fucking BF3.
No, that's fucking stupid, An excelent example of why is Medal of honor.
Gamestop had the M60 as a pre-order bonus, Best buys had another LMG, and the EA store and a M240, NONE of those weapons could be acquired any other way, and they were totally different weapons then any of the other ones in game, and that threw off the balance.
If they offered the same maps, weapons, and day one unlocks too all the same stores, then it would be fine. but if the offer different weapons from different stores, all of which are different weapons rather then skins, and can't be acquired any other way, then it's bull shit. In fact, weapons that can only be acquired by pre-ordering is bull shit in the first place. Theres 3 or 4 games that I want to buy coming november, thats 240$ in fucking video games, all in the same month, if I don't pre-order one of them I loose out on it's weapons, and I'll be missing out in the long run.
TL;DR: DLC weapons from Pre-ordering is bull shit, and EA should be disappointed in itself.

Well hopefully EA will notice it before the game comes out, because once it does, more than half of the "boycotters" will buy the game and then EA can just ignore whatever boycott was around prior to release.
everybody is missing the big "fuck off EA" part though
BF3 will NOT be on steam
the digital version will ONLY be sold on EA's own orion PC download service

Except that was in, what, 2008? Back when $59.99 PC games was as laughable as $5.00 gas prices? When $14.99 map packs was unheard of, even on consoles?
It's over, companies just don't give a fuck. The entire industry is much different than it was in 2008; even if a previous boycott was a success, this one won't be.

I don't see anything wrong about that really, it's just like Valve makes their games only work with Steam.
Cancelled my pre-order just based on the fact that they tried it in the first place. I don't care if they reverse it. Back to karkand should have been free in the first place, if Valve can turn a profit making games without charging for maps than DICE/EA can make a profit giving them away free as well.

That sucks. Does EA honestly think they're going to take down steam? Yah I'm so sure, good luck with that.

Sir, I salute you. Welcome to the brotherhood.

You're confusing 2008 with 1997. Medal of honor: Rising sun came out in like 2005, and it was 60$, Battlefront 2 came out in 06 or 07 and was 60$, Console games have been 60$ for a while now. EA used to give 2 fucks about it's customers, not anymore.

If everyone who wants to play BF3 has to download their service to play it, then yeah, at least for the first week after it's released, they think they'll take down Steam.
I can live without the Type-88, the dao-12 is still available ingame (without flechette though), and so is the SKS. I don't really mind about the suppressor for the SKS too much.
BUT NO KARKAND? GET THE FUCK OUT EA
I think EA got offended that Bobby Kotick said that EA will never beat Activision, so this is their attempt beating them at being shit

While I agree Medal of Honor preorders were a crock, the mp7 and m60 were exclusives for the Limited Edtion. The m60 was also a bonus for Gamestop and the m240 and rpk came with purchases from the EA store. The whole idea that four out of about eighteen guns were exclusive and could not be purchased after release made me end up canceling my preorder. While I highly doubt that BF3 will have that few weapons, its still the same concept.
If they don't have modding support that will be the last straw for me. If there is modding support I'll just download the map and play on a mod server same with weapons

I'm overall pissed at the idea of 'Different content from different store', it's fucking bullshit
It's okay to want and make money from your product, but you can't just do it giving a big "Fuck you" to the people who buy your product -the people who support you.
I was referring to PC games, where there's no "licensing fees" to cover the console owners like there are with PlayStation and Xbox games.
I don't see anything wrong about that really, it's just like Valve makes their games only work with Steam.
Yeah, there's nothing wrong with it.
It sorta hurts the consumer a bit, since nobody really wants to have to run multiple services to access all their games, but competition is always a good thing. And frankly, some good competition could finally make Valve get off their asses and start bringing some decent features and fixes to Steam.
If they don't have modding support that will be the last straw for me. If there is modding support I'll just download the map and play on a mod server same with weapons
Modding in big-name multiplayer shooters was phased out when Modern Warfare 2 came out, where have you been?
The fact that they're selling "map packs" even before the game comes out is a tell-tale sign there will be absolutly no modding support anyway. Why would they be selling maps if modding communities could make better maps a week after the game comes out for free?

I don't remember reading any announcements about it not being on steam, especially since the digital version is already pre-ordereable on D2D, gamestop, and other retailers with digital version.s
Now we're on that slippery slope between facts and blind speculation. Do some more research before making these sorts of accusations other than "its not there, that means its nowhere"

Still EA though, and Dice made the multiplayer for that game. So at this point, it is REALLY likely. We all know how EA rushes games out before they're truly finished (Mercenaries 2) and it's likely at this point EA will kick BF3 out the door too early and sell the rest of the game and DLC.
Except that was in, what, 2008? Back when $59.99 video games was as laughable
what
god fucking damn it EA, STOP DOING THAT.
Modding in big-name multiplayer shooters was phased out when Modern Warfare 2 came out, where have you been?
Will never be a true sequel to Battlefield 2 without it and will never have the same replayability as BF2. Online multiplayer gets old and mods have always pushed the lifetime of a game forward. Problem is game companies are less about games then they are about money.

They said no at first because of massive licensing issues with third party software, especially other EA animation software and other stuff, as well as the fact that its supposedly very difficult to use (I forgot their reasoning, you can look it up. It sounds valid though but I'm sure modders would find a way regardless,) and the fact that they don't want their work to get out and to be copied by other less reputable companies. I'm not sure what their stand point is now though.
what
Have you ever purchased a PC game (without any extras or "special editions") for $59.99 before 2008?
