But aren't they pretty much a pedophile ring themselves?
Pedophiles are not the victims.
DarkNet sounds so cyberpunk and sci-fi, but in reality it's all the crap that goes on beneath the face of the regular Net, and judging from what i've heard it sounds like the maggot-ridden deep rot hidden beneath embalmed skin. Y'know, with all the nasty stuff and vile people that lurk in those tainted depths?
Good that Anon exposed the ring, but it musta been like performing an autopsy on a long-dead corpse, the sight of the hideousness and the stench of corpse gas; an unpleasant experience i'll wager. Still, it had to be done to bring the worms to the surface.
They're probably desensitized to fucked up stuff.
Nice, maybe some good can come out of their efforts
They're probably desensitized to fucked up stuff.
Makes sense; can't be on the internet for anything more than a year or two without seeing something that makes you say "UGH!", and the lucky ones who didn't see the rot are still likely to glance at something awful eventually, whether intentional or not.
Still, can't be healthy for one's sanity to glance at untold depravities.
Nice, maybe some good can come out of their efforts
This reminds me of that one time when that kid had an extremely abusive mother (though admitedly people only really payed attention to her because she was a batshit insane femenist) and /b/ worked 'round the clock to try and find out where he was and tell social services.
It failed, unfortunately. Though I hear they're still on the lookout for him.
If only they would stop hunting copyright infringers and "pirate networks" and start going after the real criminals, like these...
Im sure that the big publishing labels have lobbied the laws to an extent, where chasing pirate sites is more profitable for FBI than bringing down CP sites.
However, in order to be a member of a group like Anonymous (or at least a productive one) you need to be a hacker
No, bro. Anonymous is not an organization. It is a term for users of a large imageboard that requires no sign-up or registration process. Only a very very small percentage of them are actual "hackers", I suppose mainly /g/, the Tech board.
Stop trying to act like it's a secret underground group of elite hackers. It's anyone who wants to call themselves Anonymous.

Well, yeah, but in this case - and all other cases where things have actually been done - they'd have to be something other than twelve year-olds.
You don't expose paedophile rings by whining about your lost iPod, do you?
Finally , anonymous actually do something good.
I know it's disgusting , but looking down that list of usernames I can't help but piss myself at some of them.

They exposed it by someone posting the link in a thread, some guys decide it'd be fun to try it bring it down, and a few guys got some information from various means. Just some normal guys, not a collective hivemind group of superhumans. Just normal guys like Facepunch's community. Most of the community is against all the "ANON IS LEGION NEVER FORGET" crap, anyway.
Finally about time anonymous taking some smart action. I also hope they do something to facebook in November as they said they would about FB's privacy issues.

We didn't say they were 12 and what the fuck does that ipod thing mean.

I'm just saying, not all of them are kids.
We didn't say they were 12 and what the fuck does that ipod thing mean.
Because they normally buy into that stuff.
Like me, come to think of it.
Waiting for someone to post in this thread who has a username that's in that list.

Obliging.
[editline]22nd October 2011[/editline]
Only because my name is very generic.
I wonder if any FP members are on that list.
The bans will be HILARIOUS.

Suddenly, less CP on /b/.
Kinda dumb to release all this info. Should've send it to the FBI first as now those people are gonna be smashing their hard drives.

I wonder if FBI at all investigate tor sites. I mean shit, tor network is filled with cp.
TOR/darknet/whatever is the backalley of the internet.

Why bother if you can't get enough evidence on a person or group to bust them?
TOR is all about anonymity, both for the better and worse.
Anonymous did something sensible, nice job.
Oh Gabe.

Screen Name: animal1967
Real Name: Gabe
Age: 44
Gender: Male
I got curious and did a Google search on the screenname to see if this guy might have used it elsewhere. I found a screenname matching that one on an online dating site. Profile info from the dating site:
44, Male
Baton Rouge, Louisiana
http://www.okcupid.com/profile/animal1967/questions
Well what do you think of that?
Heh, check out the personality test he took:
"Are you a great fuck buddy?" test Result: Fuck buddy! Take it!
Probably just a coincidence (It's not like only one man was born in 1967, and "animal" is hardly an obscure word), but it's funny to think that some of these people probably used the same username on multiple websites. I wonder how many leads a google search on those usernames could uncover?
[editline]22nd October 2011[/editline]
A picture of a user from another website sharing the same username:

I dunno, does that look like a pedophile named Gabe to you?
[editline].[/editline]
Wow, tons of fucked up porn community sites with that username registered. Incest, bestiality, rape fetish, the list goes on. But really, the number of results coming up for this username pretty much rule out that they're all the same dude. Maybe Google searches on some of the more obscure names would come back with better results.

Sounds like great practice for a Internet detective.
Sounds like great practice for a Internet detective.
Or the FBI. Since those deep web sites are generally accessed through clients with built-in proxies and shit, the usernames and ages could be used as a starting point for hunting down leads from the surface-web, where users might not be so careful to protect their identity.
[editline]/[/editline]
Oh, wow, Anon was thorough. I just saw the list where they've uncovered more extensive info on tons of people, even including home addresses, pictures, phone numbers, email addresses, etc, etc. If that shit could be verified, then good for them!
That picture's on the pastebin, I just didn't quote it.
That picture's on the pastebin, I just didn't quote it.
Yeah, I just noticed that!
A darknet website is a closed private network of computers used for file sharing, sometimes referred to as a hidden wiki.
That's quite impressive, though as mentioned before they should've gone to the FBI with this information first; the only time the users of those sites should know their identities have been compromised is when their front door is being kicked down.
