Obama plans to use his executive order power to "Fix as much of the broken immigration system as he

I haven't heard of anyone saying he's been using it more than others, the issue is what he's using it for. Historically executive orders have existed to allow the President to enact policy established by Congress (such as FDR passing executive orders to enact the New Deal), not to establish policy. If the President can issue executive orders to bypass Congress in creating policy, then he has effectively usurped legislative power from Congress, and that is not how our government was designed to function, regardless of what he's using that power to do.
Congressional gridlock is not a valid reason for establishing precedent that inevitably will be abused by Republican presidents in the future. I imagine the people praising Obama for 'getting things done' will be the first to complain about presidential overreach, when that overreach no longer matches their political views.
Can't let the Republicans pass an acceptable immigration bill, they might take minority votes away from democrats
i'm pretty sure most minority voters are smart enough to see token immigration reform from republicans for what it really is. they're still unambiguously the party which actively works against the interests of lower and working class people and giving our immigration laws a once-over isn't going to convince anyone otherwise
[editline]1st July 2014[/editline]
like people always talking about the republicans have an "image problem" like the only the only thing they need to do to start winning minority votes is to pull a couple more michael steeles out of the cloning vats and not listen to as much country music but that assumes that minority voters are dumb enough to fall for that routine. (hint: they aren't)
I think this shows that Obama really does care and he's tired of Congress. I know I am. I gave up on believing in our Congress a long time ago. It's not necessarily the absolute right thing to do, but it's a hell of a lot better than just sitting around trying to kiss up for Congress to do something.
Yeah, fuck the whole checks and balances thing! The President should be allowed to do what he wants, when he wants, how he wants, and fuck everyone else!

Maybe we should see the specifics of these executive orders before doomsaying about how Obama is "usurping" Congress. Specifically if the Supreme Court acts.
Also a lot of people say he uses more than others its kind of a conservative talking point on FP. You should read SH more.

In this unfalsifiable hypothetical, are Democrats as relentlessly lockstep and obstructionary as Republicans 2008-2014?
Boehner was ready to move on immigration and trying to work with the president. It honestly looked like immigration reform was going to pass.
The problem was when Boehner said that for immigration reform to pass, Obama had to secure the border first. Instead of seeing this as an opportunity to work with republicans and show us that he is willing to work with us. I have no idea why, but Obama threw a fit about it, and Boehner shelved it. And this wasn't just for immigration reform, but for amnesty too! Obama got in his own way on this...
This is hilariously, outrageously false. Obama didn't even get to discuss Boehner's idea because it died in the house after he could only get 19 people in his own party to support it. He was railroaded by conservative media and colleagues for what they interpreted as an amnesty system. He himself had to come out and say that it wasn't amnesty because he was caching so much flak from his own side. Boehner shelved it wasn't viable legislation, not because of Obama or Democrats.
Can't let the Republicans pass an acceptable immigration bill, they might take minority votes away from democrats
This is kind of circular logic, isn't it? Republicans can't pass """""acceptable"""" immigration bills because they aren't getting voted by minorities who would be most affected by immigration reform.
Maybe your party should appeal to minorities with better policy instead of empty rhetoric and veiled racism. If you just keep whining about the Democrats getting minority votes instead of asking yourself why Republicans don't you are just sidestepping the problem.
It is when conservative politicians and pundits alike proceed to criticise the president because of his inaction, when actually it has been shown that this congress is the most inactive congress and has passed less bills than any other in the past century.

The raw number of how many laws passed is a stupid fucking measure. Not all laws are good. Not all laws are the will of the People they are chosen to represent.

Yeah I guess legislators shouldn't have to do their job because the guy on the opposite team is currently in the White House.
Oh good, Eric Holder, the guy at the top of Operation Fast & Furious and the guy who told ATF employees to not talk to Congress during their investigation. Thank god there is someone we can trust to uphold the law of the land involved.

The guy at the top that was cleared of all wrong doing because no evidence could be found linking him to to the actual gun walking?
Theirs a lot of interest groups that don't want to see this go through because they would lose their legal slave labor. Detaining Hispanics and throwing them in work prisons.
last i checked we didn't put them in work prisons though, we just punted them back into Mexico

admittedly given the state of Mexico right now that's not much better but still

This chart is confusing, the x axis is backwards with respect to how it normally is.

Part of the executive order is to get them punted back to Mexico faster. We studied the phenomenon in State,Federal politics and its a relatively unknown issue

The GOP isn't my party.
And I'm not whining about Democrats getting minority votes, I'm making an observation.
