It's subconscious. An interesting way to look at it, but it's indeed why a lot of pet owners have pets.
I get pets because I love them and they are cool looking. I dont know whats wrong with you if you think its for power.

You've got to be a pretty sad case if making your dog roll over feeds some primal power lust.

It's subconscious. Meaning you don't think "oh I'm going to get a dog so that I can fill my primal power lust." No, you get it because it's cute and a good companion. But at the same time it gives you something to do and indeed makes you feel as though there's still one thing in your life you're definitely in control of.

Anyone who's ever owned a pet that doesn't have a college degree in animal training will tell you that control is the last thing you have.

It's not about it uncontrollably shitting over your apartment. It's deeper than that. The power comes from knowing that you're responsible for keeping a living thing alive.

That's the opposite of power- it's a burden. You have to sacrifice time and resources to keep your pet healthy and happy. And unless you want to imply that everyone is subconsciously a megalomaniac, most people wouldn't care to have power over something's life and death.

ok do you have proof for this hypothesis of your s that we are all control freaks. People dont genetically want control unless they get something out of it.
The dog is in more control of you then you are of it.

And let's not even get started on cats.

No. It's all a hypothesis. It's just my idea of how it works but I can't back it up. I probably sound like a bitter guy but I have a dog and love him. But from seeing how many people treat their pets (disregarding special cases like the one in the OP), it seems my hypothesis is true for at least a good portion of pet owners out there, but probably not all.

do you mean the pet owners who put their pets in vacuum bags
Why are so many people doing stuff like this lately? Are people really becoming that dumb that the only way they can entertain themselves is through killing things?
Call of Duty did it.

I think people have pets the same way they have children. except the children have clause and you dont have to be with someone to have it.

my friend has a cat, and the cat does whatever the fuck it feels, he has like zero control over the cat, it catches birds and shit to eat and it comes and goes as it pleases. I don't think people get a cat for control, because cats are like the most independent pet going. I got my dog because if I didn't rescue him, they'd probably put him down.

Erm no, I don't have my dog because I like the feeling of keeping it alive, I like having a dog because dogs are fun to have around.
Mosquitoes have been doing pretty fucking well.
Mosquitoes don't kill people, it's the harmful illnesses they carry that do.
What the hell happened to auto merge?

So venomous snakes don't kill people, but their venom does? Is that your logic?
Hungry wolves don't kill people, having their faces and necks torn to shreds does.
So venomous snakes don't kill people, but their venom does? Is that your logic?
Well no because mosquitoes don't intend to give the illnesses to people and do not produce them in their body, they pick them up from drinking blood (i.e something they have to do to survive), venomous snakes on the other hand produce the venom in their bodies and when they bite they release the venom themselves.

Again, tearing bits off people was an intended effect on the wolfs part, spreading disease on the other hand is not. It's like if a man has no idea he has an STD and unintentionally spreads it.
