A Philippine court found Lance Cpl. Joseph Scott Pemberton, 20, guilty of homicide Tuesday for choking and then drowning Jennifer Laude in a toilet bowl in a motel bathroom. Authorities said Pemberton, who was on shore leave in Olongapo City during joint military exercises, killed Laude one night in October 2014 after he discovered she was transgender. “It’s murder,” prosecutor Emily de los Santos said last year, according to the Associated Press. “It was aggravated by treachery, abuse of superior strength and cruelty.” But the judge in the case said that Laude’s death was not murder because there was no treachery, superior force and cruelty — elements needed to prove murder under Philippine law. Pemberton was convicted of homicide, sentenced to six to 12 years in prison and ordered to pay about $98,000 in damages to Laude’s family, court clerk Gerry Gruspe told the Associated Press.
"it's not murder" the judge says, and he only gets 12 years for murder!? [editline]1st December 2015[/editline]
there was no treachery, superior force and cruelty
Choking and drowning someone in a fucking toilet bowl and then expecting that you can get away with it because you're a ~Muhreen~. Fuck this judge and fuck the backwards-ass Philippine lawmakers who think that there has to be specialized grounds for murder.
i guess homicide and murder are two different offences in the philippines
The outcome stirred suspicion among many Filipinos, in part because U.S. officials granted Smith’s accuser a visa to live in the United States after she changed her story.
there is probably some pressure behind the scenes from your government, rather than "backwards-ass philippine lawmakers".
was no treachery, superior force and cruelty — elements needed to prove murder under Philippine law.
What a strange law. Also, the fact that he's a US Marine probably plays a huge part in this. US soldiers basically get to treat places like the Philippines and Okinawa as their own playgrounds.
-snipped missed a line-
because I know everyone's wondering
I wonder what the motivation was for the murder.
you could try reading the second paragraph
killed Laude one night in October 2014 after he discovered she was transgender.
[editline]1st December 2015[/editline]
because I know everyone's wondering
being a straight man i would def be disappointed if i brought her back to my hotel room and she flopped a big ole dong out on me... to murder someone though over that? bruh
you could try reading the second paragraph
Must have skipped that line. Yeah just what I thought. This happens way to often. I'm worried that the same thing might happen to me at some point.
Poor marine couldn't handle that he caught the gays by accident. Give it another 10 years and this will look even sillier when transgender is more normal.
being a straight man i would def be disappointed if i brought her back to my hotel room and she flopped a big ole dong out on me... to murder someone though over that? bruh
me as well but bruh them titties, they nice
being a straight man i would def be disappointed if i brought her back to my hotel room and she flopped a big ole dong out on me... to murder someone though over that? bruh
i'd be surprised but no less interested
being a straight man i would def be disappointed if i brought her back to my hotel room and she flopped a big ole dong out on me... to murder someone though over that? bruh
Except that if she was that far along she likely had SRS meaning that her vagina was visually indistinguishable from a woman's. The only way he could have found out is if he figured it out when she couldn't self lubricate or if she told him herself.
being a straight man i would def be disappointed if i brought her back to my hotel room and she flopped a big ole dong out on me...
I wouldn't be.
So ofc the best thing to do now is to oggle a murder victim
How do these kind of people make it into the corps...? That, and the "This was not murder" smells of U.S government doing.

Unless she didn't..? Saying "likely" doesn't make it fact, unless it was stated somewhere that I haven't seen?
Unless she didn't..? Saying "likely" doesn't make it fact, unless it was stated somewhere that I haven't seen?
Why are you operating under the assumption that she did? If I was that far along I most certainly would. Furthermore if she was taking dudes to motel rooms its quite likely she had SRS.
What a strange law. Also, the fact that he's a US Marine probably plays a huge part in this. A lot of military bases, Okinawa included, have very strict codes of conduct when their personnel are out and about.
Why are you operating under the assumption that she did? If I was that far along I most certainly would. Furthermore if she was taking dudes to motel rooms its quite likely she had SRS.
I'm not the one making the assumption here, you're the one assuming she had SRS. We're stating that's not known to be fact and it makes an emotionally explosive scenario a possibility.
What a strange law. Also, the fact that he's a US Marine probably plays a huge part in this. US soldiers basically get to treat places like the Philippines and Okinawa as their own playgrounds.
Why are you talking about something you have zero knowledge on? Three quarters of your time in places like Oki is being told what you can not do and what will happen to you if you do. "playground" Give me a break. Make your biases more obvious next time.
I remember when this happened, felt awful for ships crew at the time (not the marines embarked, they're NOT crew). The Peleliu was covering the Bohome Richards deploymemt because they were broke dick, gave them their ammo loadout, they went out, hit PI and this happened. Basically even after dropping off the Marines the crew was on lockdown. Oh, except for the only night they were given libery, one of their crew broke into a pharmacy so I didn't feel too bad after that.
What a strange law. Also, the fact that he's a US Marine probably plays a huge part in this. As a Marine myself I can tell you that the Corps is so scared of public opinion and foreign relations that they withhold a bunch of "common sense" liberties from service members in an effort to avoid stupid shit like this from happening. As usual, restrictions and new rules are written in light of every negative event. Any rule that is made law in the military that sounds "retarded" is directly the result of some asshole elsewhere who ruined it for everyone else. I can only imagine the amount of restrictions everyone else in the future of the Corps will suffer in light of Lance Corporal Asshole's actions abroad. On a foreign relations scale, it's now setting back progress by ten steps after two metaphorical steps forward. So no, you're misinformed.

There a reason why there's "Cinderella" liberty for Marines stationed in Okinawa E-5 and below. Granted a lot of
This. There a reason why there's "Cinderella" liberty for Marines stationed in Okinawa E-5 and below. Granted a lot of
Lol you think that's bad? Visiting ships crew are prohibited from going anywhere but NS White Beach and AFB Kadena which both suck.
This. There a reason why there's "Cinderella" liberty for Marines stationed in Okinawa E-5 and below. Granted a lot of
Same for my boat when we visited Japan. Also, this guy sucks ass. We WERE going to the PI until this shit happened.
What a cock. How strict is the psychology checkup in the us when you apply to the corps?
What a strange law. Also, the fact that he's a US Marine probably plays a huge part in this. US soldiers basically get to treat places like the Philippines and Okinawa as their own playgrounds.
Lol jeez, I spent 3 years in Okinawa and married a local; I can say with 100% certainty that you're talking out of your ass. [editline]1st December 2015[/editline]
Why are you operating under the assumption that she did? If I was that far along I most certainly would. Furthermore if she was taking dudes to motel rooms its quite likely she had SRS.
To be honest I think it's pretty easy to differentiate female anatomy from male. The body isn't just a blank canvas with boobs and penises attached too it, there are profound skeletal and muscular difference between the sexes. With that being said I think you could easily tell the difference between a constructed vagina vs a real one.
What a strange law. Also, the fact that he's a US Marine probably plays a huge part in this. Each and every port we pulled into the command is freaking the fuck out because of the chance of that one asshole ruining it for everyone. The majority of us are just regular dudes. There is always that shitbag that fucks everything up though.
