ISIS has done so many unforgivable things, many that could be said to be far worse than this, but for some reason this just especially gets me...
Such an undeserved end to a piece of history.

Regardless of how you feel in regards to ISIS, or religion, or anything going on in the Middle East, it's always heartbreaking to see a work of art and history maintained for over a millennium reduced to dust in a matter of seconds.

Because there are decent people there who want nothing to do with this sort of conflict? If, and it's a big if, it comes to doing that, and that's about as unlikely as pigs flying, it would have to be done only as a last resort.

I know there are some groups of muslims who believe any historical place linked to people important/famous in Islam could turn to a place of idolatry eg: they think graves or houses and places once inhabited by religious figures are/could be worshiped by Muslims when in reality we just respect it as a part of our history.
It really is sad seeing history and culture being destroyed in the name of extremism.

It's a statistical fact that religion will disappear by itself as we move forward in our understanding of the Universe, we don't need to force it to disappear at all, just respect each other for our beliefs even if they are different (as long as they hurt nobody).
I am a strong believer that old school architecture, regardless of the religion or beliefs that formed it, should be kept alive for the simple fact that old school architecture is fucking awesome.
