I'll be 18 in march. I'm going to give it a shot.
I can't see why anyone would want to do this. Sure you get to see a new planet but it will get old within the week, and you'll soon realise you have to live the rest of your days in a barren waste, unable to step outside without a suit and with no hopes of going home. It's like the very definition of hell.

I was excited when I first saw this. But then I saw it was Mars One. Sorry, but I do not believe one of the greatest moments in human history should be a reality show. Broadcasting footage daily? Yes. Reality show? No.
This trip sounds really depressive... I bet they find alot of good fitted people but I wonder how will they maintain the base there or expand it? One mistake would send everyone to death and the whole base would be gone.
The problem is the major physiological change of the human body. While we get used to the mars gravity and atmosphere, they predict after a very prolong period of time, if we come back we can't get used to earth's gravity again.
Can't we just take daily trips in some g force accelerator ?
Governments new plan to decrease population.
Can't we just take daily trips in some g force accelerator ?
I wouldn't expect them to be able to ship heavy machinery for a long time.
I would really REALLY want to go, but that Dr Who episode keeps interfering with my thoughts.
I was excited when I first saw this. But then I saw it was Mars One.
i'd seriosly do this, i wouldnt have a problem dying in there too. i mean, its a whole new planet, one in a lifetime oportunity, no, one in a million lifes oportunity. the chance of being part of the start of a new era? no way im saying no.
Large scale colonisation of Mars will never happen. At most it will be as colonised as Antarctic is.
It begins...
Large scale colonisation of Mars will never happen. At most it will be as colonised as Antarctic is.
Large scale colonization will eventually happen, but not now. As Carl Sagan put it:
The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.

If they're gonna be stuck on Mars, you're going to have to be very, very careful about who you send.
One of the colonists goes crazy and kills the rest, declaring rule over the planet. Mission failed. That's what I would do anyway :V

Hells yeah they'll put a bunch of mentally unstable people in the selection process, but isn't that what gets views? Crazy ass motherfuckers being stupid? Anyways, I'm pretty sure that if money wasn't an object they'd be doing this in private/off of national television. The selection/training at least.

Imagine living in a tin can with people you hate for the rest of your life. Sending a bunch of argumentative lay-people would cost so much for little return. What knowledge would we yield from it? What we need is scientists up there, people who would make the mission worth the cost.

They train a multiplicity of teams and only send the one that works. Think of it as the big brother winners prize. To get launched.

They're only accepting the stupid-folk for the reality show portion, to be weeded out later when they don't really need the views anymore because they've got all that monies for spess. I may (probably) be wrong here so feel free to call me names and tell me that I'm wrong. Edit:
Psst. They don't send all the applicants. Think of the ratings when they run out of food and they have to hunt eachother. Or when the glass of the biodome starts to break. Or when Harry and Suzy finally get it on.
I wouldn't go it doesn't sound fun at all and you can't return
How come this hasn't been posted? [editline]10th January 2013[/editline]
I wouldn't go it doesn't sound fun at all and you can't return
How the fuck could colonization be "fun"? Like really, lol
I'd sign up if I didn't have stuff keeping me here which I think unfortunately applies to alot of people. I couldn't bear living on a desolate rock for the rest of my life knowing I'll never see the blue and green of earth again and everyone I hold dear.
Hey guys, the shows not working out so we had to cancel it. Hope you don't need any supplies because we don't have the funding.
You'd have to be insane to want to be one of the first people to colonize another planet.
Smart people are always seen as insane to stupid people. You're stupid. GG.
It'd get so boring sitting around on a dead planet for the rest of your life.
First words on mars "aeiou"
First words on mars "aeiou"
i would go just to make this happen.
Smart people are always seen as insane to stupid people. You're stupid. GG.
Except you'd get stuck there, realize how hard it is, get depressed within a year then wish you'd never have done it, and there would be absolutely no way back. Yeah I think people who want to go there just don't realize how it would be. None of you would chose to stay if you spent a year there, then was given the opportunity to return.
First words on mars "aeiou"
"Holy shit control I am on fucking Mars god damn this is fucking red"
Plus if you get a serious illness like cancer you're fucked.
