Regarding number 2, I don't really think it works because these people can already pay to send their kid to most colleges anyways. I think only private colleges and certain state ones would be expensive enough to demand that much money.
That's a fair assessment but we still need to bring the cost of college education down. Your average person in the USA gets saddled with absurd amounts of debt unless they have scholarships.
I can send myself to college on a little over a third of that. It's a shame some of these people reproduced.
My mother makes almost that much and we have almost no money and are in a lot of debt. Don't just assume that you know a person's economic situation based on JUST their salary. If your expenses outweigh your income you are in debt. I could post my personal story but that'd be going a little far to prove a point, but rest assured we're in a high income bracket and are poor as fuck right now and it makes it so hard to get loans. I'm having a tougher time paying for it than you are, unless you're also relying entirely on loans.
I wish libertarian party was relevant in the states, both parties are utter trash.
Here's an idea, fix the fucking broken-ass tuition system in this country. Education shouldn't have a fucking paywall in front of it.
Seriously, I couldnt imagine going to school in the US, over 30 grand a year? Are you fucking kidding me?
Well, do you think politicians ought to live an ascetic life, devoted to pouring every penny they have in to ensuring that they remain politicians?
Actually is a good case for making politics financially unrewarding, because then only people passionate about governing will go into it as a career, rather than people lured by the money.
Actually is a good case for making politics financially unrewarding, because then only people passionate about governing will go into it as a career, rather than people lured by the money.
They still need to eat and support families. Making it completely unrewarding would contribute to making politics a rich mans game. People lured by money don't usually go in for the salary anyway. They go in for the legal bribes and retirement positions.
Actually is a good case for making politics financially unrewarding, because then only people passionate about governing will go into it as a career, rather than people lured by the money.
The flip side of not paying politicians well is that they supposedly only allow the financially wealthy to enter politics and it makes poorer representatives more likely to take bribes to curb debt. But the way I see it is, at that pay that they're getting, they should reduce the expenses of their lifestyle, which is probably far upper class anyway, instead of just asking for more money. When I get into bad debt, I have to reduce my expenses rather than ask my boss for a raise every other month. It's extremely easy for someone to get through community college, then go to a state school cheaply. Many of my friends did that without even getting help from their parents with part time jobs. If they can do it, then these politician's kids can certainly do it. Oh? Can't get into Harvard? Then fucking settle for something less and be happy you're getting into college to begin with.
I don't think that's really fair to say because, taking them at face value, (I know, no one here wants to do that with politicians) the complaint is primarily cost of living for DC means that only politicians who are making a lot of money on-top of being politicians can be politicians, rather than career "just-a" politicians. You might send yourself to college on "a third" of that, but could you afford to book flights across country for rallies, pay off your house, host fancy dinners for supporters and manage your staff ON TOP OF making sure your family is taken care of on, "a third" of that? The complaint is a good one. We don't want a world where the only people who can afford to be politicians are the 1%. That's how landed aristocracy begins. That's how the same landed aristocracy comes to only pass legislation that favors itself. America was founded with the intent that a thing like that shouldn't happen. That's why politicians even have a salary. It used to be that they didn't at all, and more than a few went in to obscurity with nothing because of it. I don't think we want that.
Even with those factors, I think it's mainly because they want to send their kids to expensive/Ivy league schools. There is some degree of affordable in there, just not at the level they want (The "BEST").

That will ensure that they can live comfortably in their home cities. [editline]26th May 2015[/editline] Maybe give them a stipend or refund the costs of airline tickets to get to/from D.C.
I wish libertarian party was relevant in the states, both parties are utter trash.
Liberterians are actually the worst party, I'd take Republicans over them any day.
so you guys can't afford to send your kids to college on 116k a year, yet my family manages to send 3 kids to college on considerably less? will politicians ever change or do they just want everyone to hate their guts? maybe get your kids to work too like everyone else [editline]d[/editline] woops, 174k. jesus christ a list of these politicians' names should be all over every news channel and their constituents need to tell them to stop being fucking spoiled idiots i guess this should be expected when you have people in office making upwards of $350 million
