It's only natural that the fans of the original games feel betrayed that Activision took the series in a disagreeable direction.
I like the direction they have gone in, where they keep the same solid gameplay that works really well for an arena shooter then changing up the maps, weapons, gameplay mechanics, and secondary modes along with a decent campaign. As someone who has enjoyed the series since the first game (and the multiplayer since UO) I wouldn't want CoD to be any other way. Not arguing with you, I can see why some people would like the older ones and not the newer ones (kinda), but just presenting my viewpoint and showing people that there is a market that CoD games (yes, even the new ones) appeal to. [editline]1st September 2011[/editline]
I was more on your side, so I don't know why you're trying to disagree with me. I'm saying quality and sales are independent, and I stated why pretty clearly, so I don't understand why you're trying to take a jab at my understanding of economics, when that's exactly what I was getting at. Activision is a business, their goal is to make money, so they stick with a philosophy and a product that sells. Quality of the product is entirely up to the opinion of the consumer, as one person may find the product good, another may not. I'll restate this so you don't ignore it again: how 'good' a product is, is subjective when we're talking about video games. We're not talking about something like chairs, where it clearly isn't a good chair if it falls apart when you sit in it. A game is good when you enjoy it. Does Activision make good games? I personally find them okay. They aren't great, but they are okay. Are they financially successful? Recently, yes. Are they going to change their business strategy? Probably not any time soon. Digging into new territory is a big risk when it comes to things like this, where massive investment can lead to a sizable net loss.
I didn't mean to argue against you, I was agreeing with you, but I guess my overuse of the word "you" in my post made it seem like that. My apologies.
I didn't mean to argue against you, I was agreeing with you, but I guess my overuse of the word "you" in my post made it seem like that. My apologies.
It's all good in the hood
The problem with is the way they force their DLC onto their customers. If you want to play with people you have to have the most up to date version of the game and share the same DLCs as everyone else. And because of this people think that in order to enjoy their game they NEED to buy these DLC packs. I firmly believe that DLCs is a cop out to gamers across the world. A scam to take as much of their money as possible. And on top of that it forces some to buy bigger storage devices once they fill up from all the content. All around the world gamers are being screwed over for their money repeatedly and they are allowing it to happen! This is rediculous. I have yet to buy a single DLC for any Call of Duty or Halo game. I only grab the free DLCs (except Oblivion). If you can't sell a complete version of a game, don't sell it at all. It's terrible that they do this when most people have an incredibly hard time finding work, paying bills/groceries, etc. Honestly I'm surprised gaming is doing so well with everyone being in this recession.
He's beggining to be my hero. Sure, its a pretty bad thing to do to the consumers, but otherwise, its a great way for yourself to get rich, something that nowadays is never too much. He had a great tool to do it though.
boo hoo Microsoft/Apple make this much cash everytime they release something new but since its activision its a fucking travesty Windows is the same shit every time, same with apple

When your option of 4-5 maps for $15 is the highest selling item of DLC on every major gaming platform, you don't have much of an incentive to stop.
If you want to play with people you have to have the most up to date version of the game and share the same DLCs as everyone else.
no you don't it's perfectly possible to play these games without DLC. people with the DLC don't exclusively play with DLC only
Actually that number of map packs is pretty accurate
no you don't it's perfectly possible to play these games without DLC. people with the DLC don't exclusively play with DLC only
Gonna second this, still play Black Ops occasionally and even dipped into MW2 recently and I never have a problem getting into games. Don't any of the DLC.
The MW series isn't really bad, it's just starting to get boring. I get that people love to play it because they play it with their friends, but good god people, you're buying the almost exact same game every time. MW was steak with fries, great steak with great fries. MW2 was an average steak, and the fries sucked. Blops was a steak with a different shape. Guess what MW3 is? STEAK. You know what? I don't want any more steak, and I don't want to pay 60$ for- 1. Something that I already ate 3 times in a row and 2. Something which I know will never be better than the original stake because the cook thinks just because it was good once he can do a sloppy job the next times. Yes. This was a food metaphor. Deal with it.
I love steak. [editline]2nd September 2011[/editline] :v:
Chances are its going to be now $20 map packs for MW3... Kinda worried, other publishers are going to follow...
i still don't understand the hate no one is forcing you to buy the games guys no one

if it wasnt form my friends pressuring me to get all this shit I'd never have bought it.
I CANT STANND THIS ANYMORE!!! I HATE HOW COMPANIES ARE MAKING MONEY!!!!!!!
Bobby kotick raped and killed a girl in 1990
I CANT STANND THIS ANYMORE!!! I HATE HOW COMPANIES ARE MAKING MONEY!!!!!!!
Please don`t joke about this. Its a serious problem
Thats more then 99% of games makes with the physical original copy. Just shows that either activision makes amazing dlc or its fans will buy anything.
Here's an idea: How about we blame the development studios pumping out shitty CoD clones, instead of getting mad at a company who's only crime is releasing a successful product to a large market of hungry fans.
Activison's at fault for giving them a limited amount of time to work on it. The guys making it wanted to do so much more but are limited to the 2 year time limit
People cry that it's repetitive, but look at Nintendo's games. They follow the same basic philosophy as Activision: If it works, don't fuck with the formula. If it sells, make more of it. Everyone gets angry at Activision, and yea, they aren't a very good company when it comes to the relationship with their customers, but you can't argue with their drive to make a profit. [editline]1st September 2011[/editline] Obviously though, the hardware side of Nintendo has been more creative, but the style of game was more of what I was referring to, in case there is any confusion.
Except Nintendo has actually innovated and changes their games in a major way most of the time. Nintendo basically invented the platformer, then the 3D platformer, and then motion gaming. Yes, they haven't changed Mario's formula too much over the years but it's gotten a hell of a lot more changes game to game than Call of Duty does. (compare Super Mario Bros. 3 to Super Mario World, they're almost completely different games)
Yeah, the Mario "theme" is the same ofcourse, which is awesome cause it should never change, but the games are very different though they're still usually casual platformers. [editline]2nd September 2011[/editline] And they never seem to make a bad game, which is why I still love Nintendo.
I'll be very sad when every game publishers starts to follow Activision mindset of business
I'll be very sad when every game publishers starts to follow Activision mindset of business
It will not happen though, cause we'll always have the smaller indie companies.
