iOS now reminds me of Steam's UI before the 2010 redesign I was so fucking tired of that shit by the time they replaced it. Looking back now it's unbelievable that they were still using it as late as 2010. It looks extremely 2004
now that's a blast from the past.
Let's summarize;
Arguments for skeuomorphism in digital design The arguments in favor of skeuomorphic design are that it makes it easier for those familiar with the original device to use the digital emulation, and that it is visually appealing.Interactions with computer devices are purely cultural and learned, so once a process is learned in society, it is difficult to remove. Norman describes this process as a form of cultural heritage.[6] Arguments against skeuomorphism in digital design The arguments against skeuomorphic design are that skeuomorphic interface elements use metaphors that are more difficult to operate and take up more screen space than standard interface elements; that this breaks operating system interface design standards; that it causes an inconsistent look and feel between applications;[13] that skeuomorphic interface elements rarely incorporate numeric input or feedback for accurately setting a value; that many users may have no experience with the original device being emulated; and that skeuomorphic design limits creativity by grounding the experience to physical counterparts.[14]
Personally I sometimes find it to be a nice touch when sticky notes looks like post-its, but it's mostly novelty. Ugly or inconsistent design as a result of attempting to emulate real-life objects quickly starts getting on my tits.
Imagine if they released an update for every iOS device (even ones running 4.0/5/0 that added this new design to make them fit haha nah they'd never do that
I'm not opposed to a Metro styled iOS. So long as it isn't a direct copy and they mix things up a bit for the better. I like the Metro design, though it can feel a bit dull in places.
Uh, you can't customize windows phone on any extent apart from change the colours and resize tiles, apple probably kept the same home screen shit but if they included colours that'd be amazing im looking forward to this, i may even purchase an iPhone when my time with my WP7 device is up
I meant windows 7 on my pc but whatever. At any rate all I really want is to change the colors in the music app, since thats what I use most
It can't come soon enough considering Apple's UI design pretty much reached its lowest point with the current iPod nano
I kinda like it. Simple and consistent.
iOS now reminds me of Steam's UI before the 2010 redesign [t]http://imgkk.com/i/5-hg.jpg[/t]
I miss this steam. The new interface still confuses me at times.
i hope it's not COMPLETELY flat glossy 3D is kind of apple's thing, and they do it well. hopefully iOS7 turns out to be just a major toning down instead of being metro levels of flatness.
I meant windows 7 on my pc but whatever. Simple and consistent.
it would be simple and consistent if apple didn't make the icons round circles filled with all the fucking gloss you can take
NO.
I can't wait for apple to start prancing around bragging about how "new" and "revolutionary" their new UI is despite the fact that some of it's competitors have made similar UIs before they did :v:
I made a forum last year called FaceSlap but then I found out FP stole my forum lay out and everything else fucking thieves they even stole my ratings!
i hope it's not COMPLETELY flat glossy 3D is kind of apple's thing, and they do it well. hopefully iOS7 turns out to be just a major toning down instead of being metro levels of flatness.
glossy 3d had its time, it doesn't really fit anywhere now and most apps use a google holo/metro approach to their UI because they don't like to rape it with glossy 3d goodness also apple apps suffered from differences, like game center had a different UI style to say SMS or music
I really doubt they're going to just plop flat squares down and call it a day. Apple can be scummy legally, but their design tends to be excellent. It's just outdated. Their skeumorphic design was a breath of fresh air back in the olden days, but now it's just stale. They'll find a way to get on the flat bandwagon without blatantly copying their competition or destroying their brand image.
it would be simple and consistent if apple didn't make the icons round circles filled with all the fucking gloss you can take
But it's still simple and consistent. You're just criticizing the appearance.
it was SO MUCH faster and MUCH LESS crashy tho now origin wins the "best programming" award
I really wish valve would hire some competent programmers.
beige it up like its 1995
You people are insufferable
I personally prefer them to the boring minimalism.
i really don't need my volume knobs reflecting like they are brushed aluminum using the accelerometer
Well I'm not surprised in the slighest. I'm just already annoyed in advance because they'll sell it as "innovative original design by Apple do not steal"
Octagonal tiles would be best phone interface.
How about we skip to the future with glowing neon UI and stuff like in many futuristic movies (Iron-man maybe)
Android 3.0? That aesthetic got tiring so damn quickly.
Personally I dislike any default android style I've seen. It's so inconsistent and doesn't know what it wants to be. Coming from google I expected better.
Octagonal tiles would be best phone interface.
I always preferred hexagons, then you can tessellate them properly.

You're just criticizing the appearance.
yeah i know, i tend to do it, but the appearance is on par with the lumia phones it literally has that same shape
Couldn't come too soon imo, blobby gradient heavy shiny UIs never really looked nice to me, look at the windows xp theme apple pulled theirs off fairly well but it's time for a change [editline]1st May 2013[/editline] also jonathan ive is an amazing designer, I can't wait to see what he's done with it
It can't come soon enough considering Apple's UI design pretty much reached its lowest point with the current iPod nano
Wow maybe Samsung really did copy Apple's interfaces Unnecessarily colourful round things everywhere
Default Holo is the nicest so far, but its visually uninspiring sometimes. Developers just aren't doing anything impressive with it.
My issue is that devs who use really stock holo templates end up with apps that are almost entirely black and white with shades of grey. It's the opposite of iOS with how bland it is. I own a phone with a color display, give me some color somewhere. Google Now really shows off how nice holo design can look. Also with Android's terrible color rendering some assets in holo get horrible banding. Backgrounds like the settings menu or the background on the clock app are just a mess of color steps, especially on OLED displays.
I really hope it doesn't resemble the metro design when it's released, I know a few people who would just not shutup about it if it was the case. That said, metro is just shapes and text, if Apple had flat buttons with borders it wouldn't match metro (And even then, that's all that would be similar. It's not like they'd replace the homescreen with a tile based approach, etc. it'd just be flat UI elements)
