But to all living things, continued living (via surviving or reproducing) seems to be valuable. The reason is unknown to me.

It could be because reproduction defines life to some extent. As far as I know, the birth of life required an environment where complex molecular structures could start creating copies of themselves.

if survival wasn't of value to them, they wouldn't be alive and would have died out long ago.

Except psychology is a science, and in science, there isn't a way of thinking over another, there's proper methodology, evidence, and reason, and then there's misrepresentations of truth and falsely drawn conclusions.
Science is not a forgiving thing, in it, your opinion doesn't matter, only the qualitative and quantitative facts weighed in the proper manner does. In scientific fields, there is a right and a wrong that can be trusted to a far extent.

I never said I was right or wrong, or said any of you guys were right or wrong, it's just my opinion based on personal experiences and what I've read on the subject so far.
