Alan Rickman was a running gag in my family. I saw Die Hard for the first time when I was too young to recognize the guy without his Snape wig so I kept asking if each male actor that popped up was Rickman, with my family assuring me that he would be recognizable immediately when he showed up. He was, but the joke eventually spiraled into a years-long gag wherein every viewing of the movie we'd ask if every actor, actress, object, etc. in that movie was Alan Rickman, until the real man himself showed up, during which everyone was silent. This is the worst. I hate this week

I think I can speak for all lovers of Mr. Rickman in saying that that tears have been shed this day.
I was talking with a friend just last night about the Powerball, and he mentioned sitting on a beach, earning 20%. I fear he may have killed Rickman :ohno: But really, this is terrible news. He was a brilliant actor. He will be missed.
We lost one of the greats today, guys. He was undoubtedly one of the better Shakespearean actors of the 20th century. Also he apparently did a reading of Sonnet 130, the one where Shakespeare mocks romantic poetry A great actor, a great man, and a great voice. Men like Rickman are few and far between.
Terrible news, horrible to hear :( He will be sorely missed.
One of the most iconic voices ever. Yippi ki ay Alan.
I have to say, I'm loving that people got "By Grabthar's Hammer" trending on Twitter, that's a nice thing to see.
Gotta admit I'm surprised by that, i love galaxy quest but i had no idea it was that popular.
Steven Speilburg is 69.... Please don't get cancer Steve. On a brighter note, trump is 69 too. Fingers crossed.
So is Tim Curry. David Lynch. Donald Trump. George W. Bush. Bill Clinton. Tommy Lee Jones. Barry Gibbs. Diane Keaton. A lot of people are 69.
Will god still be Alanis Morissette when he gets to heaven? Will Matt Damon be threatening to smite earth?
So is Tim Curry. David Lynch. Donald Trump. George W. Bush. Bill Clinton. Tommy Lee Jones. Barry Gibbs. Diane Keaton. A lot of people are 69.
Tim Curry already had a stroke in 2012.
Tim Curry already had a stroke in 2012.
That's why I have put him at the top. He's pretty much in a vegetative state with little to no chance to recovery, so if he dies this year it won't be as surprising and devastating as Bowie's or Rickman's death. There's no curse of 69. There's no rule of three. Coincidences and confirmation bias.

When all of our idols have died out?
Well damn. hope his family and friends are taking it well.

It's truly scary knowing anyone can such a disease, I still cannot get over Bowie's death, and Alan's just makes everything even more difficult than I thought Rest in peace, Alan
In my mind, I somehow imagined the director of the Harry Potter series saying something like, "I know that guy. I worked with him on a small project called the entire Harry Potter franchise", and then subsequently posting it on Facepunch under the username "shad0w440".
It was for an interactive game/short film thing that this company in new york was doing using the source engine and I was brought in because I do source good. I read somewhere that 1 in 4 people will develop cancer of some kind in their lives, its truly scary.
What the fuck is going on with all of these deaths
a lot of 70s-80s stars are fighting cancer
I woke up to a text from my dad saying 'snape is dead' and I admit I laughed because I thought he JUST figured out snape dies in the series but then it dawned on me. Fuck man...rip Alan. You were the best snape ever. Its super eerie that Bowie just died of cancer at 69 and so did Alan now too...
Lost two childhood icons in a week. What way to start 2016. Funcking January. It's always the beginning of the year that's the hardest for celebs.
What you don't know because you don't have privy to secret information such that I do is that both Bowie and Rickman have been working together on black ops missions within MI6 and have needed to fake their deaths in order to pursue further objectives without suspicion.

I knew I picked a terrible New Year's resolution when I came up with 'get really sad about all the celebrities and idols influential to me dying which is bound to occur in the New Year.' What was I thinking? Rest in Peace, Mr. Rickman, I'll remember you fondly for your terrific work on stage and screen. You'll be sorely missed.
What kind of resolution is that?
The kind that someone with incredibly low expectations makes. Also, a very sad attempt at humor as a way to cope in the wake of more than a few influential figures of my childhood dying suddenly, and at least to me, unexpectedly. Angus Scrimm was not too unexpected, he was older, but Ziggy Stardust and Dr. Lazarus caught me way off guard, and even I'll admit to tearing up a little at the news of both passing away. Either way, I apologize, I kind of see my shitty joke being in terrible taste.
The kind that someone with incredibly low expectations makes.
Then you'd better made a resolution to come up with a better resolution by the end of the year.
David Bowie was 69, died of cancer. Lemmy Kilmister had just turn 70, died of cancer. And now Alan Rickman. 69. Dies of cancer. Is 69 and cancer just the unlucky combo recently? Lemmy probably lasted a little bit longer because he was an absolute beast anyway. But this shit is ridiculous. I'm crushed.
Donald Trump is 69 years old... Fingers crossed.
What's next? Michael Caine?
Donald Trump is 69 years old... Fingers crossed.
That's a really bad mindset to have even in jest.
