Can someone explain the magnitude of this to me using colorful metaphors?
Your colonist mind will never comprehend the glory that is world championship football to the mind of a european.
Pretty sure English is the only language that regularly uses the 'real' name of the country, all other languages I speak and know of call it a variation of Holland.
It's called Nederland in the Netherlands, and Les Pays-bas (The low countries) in French.
Holland? Do people really still call The Netherlands Holland?
In Polish it's 'Holandia', but I try to avoid the word 'Holland' as much as possible.
Holland is a province. Calling the Netherlands Holland is like calling the US Texas. Dutch people generally don't care, though. We're used to it. I believe even our own tourism industry refers to ourselves as 'Holland'. Foreigners seem to find it more familiar. Generally when people come over here, they come to the province North Holland, as it's got all the main tourist attractions.
Nobody can believe it lost that fucking badly.
It's not that difficult, there's ample evidence. Spain lost that fucking badly.

Watching this in a bar full of stoners was a hilarious experience. I don't think I had ever seen anyone cheer so much for a foreign team.
I didn't watch the whole game and was outside, every time we had a goal the whole town exploded and you heard noise coming from every direction. was even better when I walked home along the local pub and I got stormed by supporters who yelled out the score and gave me free beer.

This was the most silent night in which our team played football. Thanks for that.
Australia is fucked
Australia was never going to do well, but it doesn't matter. On the table, we're higher than the champions of the World Cup... oh dear.
those pictures were hilarious

I don't watch a lot of football but I watched this match and I gotta say,Van Persie's first goal was fucking great
We saw it coming this result. All the spanish sensationalist media already considered Spain as a winner. What happens when you think the match will be easy and you will win?
Yes, in finnish it's "Hollanti"
It's actually "Alankomaat," but I'm not sure which one is used more often when referring to it.
It's actually "Alankomaat," but I'm not sure which one is used more often when referring to it.
Well, this is pretty much the first time I heard "Alankomaat" since upper elementary school, so I'd say it's "Hollanti" :v:
