Wait I just realised, my dream of having eye shine and being able to see in the dark is coming closer than ever before!!
Synthetic or cybernetic eyes don't really have that much to do with these, at best they would serve as nerve connections to help with controling the eye and recieving feedback.
Glowing eyes and mixed IR and light intensifier night vision is pretty close, but this isn't related.
I just want neural implants, I want to be a Conjoiner already.

No
What does Civil Protection have to do with anything?

Combines dosent have anything to do with machines.
They are combines from humans and aliens.

Heck yeah trans people.
I wonder how long it will be before it is developed enough to be applied practically...?

No, Civil Protection are fully human or have minimal implants, the Transhuman soldiers/elites are cyborgs basically.
"Overwatch Soldiers are humans that have undergone extensive modifications including, but not limited to, brain and chest surgery, removal of genitalia, and implantation of various mechanical devices in the throat and around the abdomen"

oh god I'm gonna get a USB eyeball
Technically wouldn't this make it possible to make supercomputer implants, and combined with the blood powered skin display to have a fully functional computer embedded inside you?
Yeah and someone is trying to build a hippocampus as well.
I think you need a new Hard drive as your current one is losing data.
Y'know, that actually raises a very important question: if you replace your brain with a computer, are you still you? Does replacing the centre of bodily computation replace the soul of the person?
I'm all for functional augmentation, but replacing the brain is where I draw the line. In my eyes, the brain is the seat of the soul, the throne of your conciousness, and if the brain is taken from the body, the soul is taken with it. The machine that would replace your brain would in fact be a different soul, a different entity. The body would not be yours, but instead belong to the new entity, and your conciousness would perish with the removed brain.
But what do YOU think? That's the most important part. If the brain is replaced, are you replaced with it?

If it's all done in one fell swoop, the original does die. However, if it is slowly replaced, the brain is never turned off, only upgraded bit by bit. Either way, I ain't touchin' my brain.
I have the same view as you do, and that by replacing the brain and putting it somewhere else or copying the mind, the copy wouldn't be the same, there would be a certain uncopyable quality it just wouldn't have.
I'm willing to do external connections and shit to my brain and connecting a lot of shit to it.
But removal of any of my grey matter is out of bounds.
I consider my brain to be me, with the rest of my body as an extension. To that end, I don't mind augmenting my body - but I would never replace my brain.

Oh wow. That was that I was thinking too, though I didn't talk about the slow replacement/progressive upgrade bit 'cause it sounded too crazy. Replacing neuron after neuron with better processing components wouldn't destory the soul, merely augment it. 'cause I want ME to enjoy my biohardware, not a replacement that looks like me, acts like me, and thinks it's me. My body belongs to my conciousness, the ME me, not the other me.
But progressive brain replacement seems a little more far-off than basic biohardware at the moment.
Also, i've just thought of another question: if the brain is kept concious by machinery after being removed, and then transplanted into the head of another person (with their brain being removed as well), would your conciousness be transferred into that new body with your brain?
Man, it's like so many science-fiction elements are coming closer and closer to the modern age...
