I can't believe how completely hypocritical the UK is being right now, at least comparatively to other countries own immigrant problems. A couple of years ago everyone in the EU was bombarding the United States efforts to combat illegal citizenry, but now when it's the UK everyone is quite alright with it.

There is no logic behind their polices. They're dumb populists. No credible economist will tell you that restricted immigration is good for the economy. Or that a flat tax is a good for the economy.
