I'm surprised in regards to Minnesota. Every time I've been there throughout my life they've been some of the most tolerant people I've met in the U.S.
Are you white?
Good going, America
Minimal rascists in Massachusettes? I call bullshit.
Umm, since when has Massachusetts been "Racist"...
I've never really encountered someone I would fully say is racist and I have lived here my whole life.
They should make one of canada.
Entire country is red with tweets containing the word "sorry".
In America, we have collected all the douchebags and put them in West Virginia and Virgina, so that when we want world peace, we know what state to bomb.
Cool, achieving world peace through genocide. Why did no one ever think of this?
In America, we have collected all the douchebags and put them in West Virginia and Virgina, so that when we want world peace, we know what state to bomb.
You'll never take us out
Virginia I mean
you can have West VA, we didn't want them anyway
Why are Virginia & Minnesota so obsessed with the word "chink"?
Not totally sure, but here in Virginia where I live asians make up a very large part of the population
They should make one of canada.
Looking for things as obvious as nigger and spic won't be very interesting. You would need to get into the gritty details, like Israel vs. Palestine, India vs. Pakistan, racism towards caucasians, and anglophones vs. francophones (in Quebec, things are pretty heated right now). So many arab Canadians on facebook are constantly talking shit about jews and Israel, for example.
Minimal rascists in Massachusettes? I call bullshit.
Keep in mind that this is essentially from a small internet sample size and it will generally point towards a lot of twitter use more than just mere racism.
they really ought to normalise this against population - hateful tweets per capita perhaps?
hateful tweets compared to population density.
abelist huh
thats a new one for me
Good going, America
we are the only country in the entire world with racists and homophobes, clearly.
If only real life had what Facepunch had a few years ago with the n-word.
I'm pretty sure everyone would be executed.

From what I understand, my father's family was pretty bad. I've heard stories of how much they flipped when they had to move to the southeast (being military).
Fortunately, they became sweet grandparents by the time I came around.
When you zoom in a lot, the map gets really spotty with spikes in the most random of places. Somehow, I doubt this map's accuracy.
looks like more like a "map of people that have twitter" than racists/etc on twitter

If look at the website, they tell that they actually don't have it super accurate. But only collate it on a county level.
I'm surprised Iowa is lit up, all we hate here is when our corn isn't being grown.
I'm surprised Cincinnati is so low.
As usual we're the city of meh. In this case it's good, though.
My guess for why Michigan only has hate in the areas it does would maybe be because of tourism areas. Not sure how this applies exactly, but the areas appear to be where a lot of people tend to visit. The racism tends to be around the Traverse City area and the homophobic tends to be from Traverse City down to about Michigan Adventures area which all are very touristy compared to the rest of the state. I dunno about the disability hate though, it's in the middle of nowhere. Maybe they just hate disabled people up there.

Why does that have any bearing on what I've seen in Minnesota? I've never said it was about how people acted towards me but how I saw people act in general. I'm well aware that Minnesota isn't completely devoid of intolerance, no place is.
To answer your question, yes, I am white.
There's barely any hate in Utah. Unsurprisingly, because mormons.
Ohio, quit embarrassing me.
I thought that until I zoomed in, actually not too terrible around where I live which is pretty close to Dayton v:v:v

Minnesota seems tolerant, but that's all apart of the "Minnesota Nice". Behind closed doors there is a lot of prejudice against Mung/Laotian and Somalis among backs and whites alike.
I'm proud that my city is barely lit up. Yay Los Angeles!
So the Midwest and the South are basically a giant, nebulous blob of racism and bigotry.
That figures.
I find it suspoicous that California, the most populous state does not have a single negative tweet, not even Beverly hills registers on this map.....

they'd better check their search term data again, something has to be missing there
Many areas that have a lot of "fag" have basically no "queer" or "homo". Doesn't make a lot of sense.

Fag is an insult against anyone (although originally against homosexuals). This map is flawed.

You're fucking telling me that there is no racism in LA.

That doesn't even make sense.
