Obese people and smokers 'banned from routine surgery' as NHS attempts to cut spending costs
It's almost painful seeing how much the NHS is being gutted, and don't get me wrong; I'm all for public-private parallel healthcare systems. But to be fair, if they absolutely had to make the cuts somewhere then this is where it should be. Many of the healthcare costs associated with smokers and obese people are costs that could be mitigated if those people had healthier lifestyles. So if something like this encourages those affectee people to live healthier, that's great.
Some of these obese people have tried everything, and nothing has worked. So, they resort to surgery.

At least for the morbidly obese, trying to encourage them to lead "healthier lifestyles" will do jack shit.
Hey maybe if they shrunk down their bloated HR departments they'd have more money to spend on real stuff.
Not to mention get rid of the Assistant's of Department Assistants, seriously why should a Department Assistant have their own Assistant that they just offload their work to? There's 7 good examples I can pull from my local NHS that are just wastes of money, the entire catering department is just a mess of people who don't do jackshit and just offload their work to people lower to them causing an internal structure of the Head having 5 fucking assistants who themselves have 2 assistants each and the 5 below the Head of the department don't do anything but micromanage, scrap the fucking micromanagement roles, even if they are just the lowest pay band it doesn't exactly matter if those people don't do shit.
Some departments are under major stress because they are forcefully being made to make cuts while these people in others are just riding it cushy because they know people higher up and if they complain its apparently really bad for whoever it is they know, so essentially fuck everyone else, IT department gets shafted, A&E gets majorly shafted, Maternity gets shafted and don't even start on the fact the Ambulances at the two hospitals my parents work at have had to drop half of their work force and outsource drivers who are basically on-demand zero hours contracts.
The NHS is a mess of poor management and this Government isn't helping it with its hamfisted spending cuts to push for areas of privatisation within the NHS. Shit needs fully restructuring and having the people who essentially do jackshit but micromanage dropped from the management lines but this isn't going to happen if this Government is still in power.
