tbh I like the smell of smoke a bit but whenever I see middle/high schoolers smoking I think of them as the dumbest of people I've ever seen. How pitifully fucked in the head are you to take on a habit like that that young? when it was way back when they didn't bother educating about how bad it was it's more understandable, or when you're an adult it's at least a knowing decision. But when you have all this information in your face at all times about how absolutely idiotic the idea is, how do you do such a stupid thing
It usually comes down to advertising and peer pressure. Also people have this habit of believing that 'this won't happen to me' and cite examples of people who, for example's sake, have smoked and drunk heavily but died of completely unrelated causes in order to reconcile themselves to their bad habits.

I could never take them seriously saying "Don't do this" whilst they engaged in it. I knew the health risks, and I just accepted them. It's hard to really take that line of reasoning seriously when you're surrounded by essentially, hypocrites. I don't particularly love smoking, and I want to quit, but I'm also not in a huge rush to quit because it's a huge stress reliever at work that I just won't have anymore. E-Cigs are hard to get in canada, and AFAIK, aren't really proven to be safe yet but are no doubt safer than cigarettes but I don't find an e-cig deals with my cravings.
So does living. What's your point?
It killed Cypher_09 from this forum ...

It's fucking comical how many smokers think people are being entitled whiners for not wanting to smell cigarette smoke, and how we're "shit at parties"? What kind of logic is that, I've never been to a party where people were saying to themselves "man I hope someone comes who smells like they haven't showered for 4 weeks" :v:
They should, it's their job. If you don't want to pay for other people's medical expenses, maybe you shouldn't have socialized medicine.
Free healthcare is great but there are only so many resources to go around, I don't think there should outright restrictions but more help and incentive for people to quit.
there's something wrong with your nose
Yeah, it's called a functioning sense of smell, something that you long since gave up.

What kind of logic is that, I've never been to a party where people were saying to themselves "man I hope someone comes who smells like they haven't showered for 4 weeks" :v:
It's a spinoff of 'you must be fun at parties', basically labeling nonsmokers and people who don't support smoking as Debbie Downers for those people who do smoke.
Yeah, it's called a functioning sense of smell, something that you long since gave up.
I know this is a popular point to parrot over and over again, but I shower regularly, and clean regularly. You won't know that I smoke unless you SEE me smoking. I don't smell like smoke. How do I know? Because the people I know who are crazy sensitive about it have never said anything about it to me, when they are the exact type of people who would tell me I smell like shit. I smoke in a hoodie that I take off when I'm not smoking. My normal clothes DON'T smell like smoke. It's getting funny to me how simply smoking means, according to Elspin there, you don't shower for a month at a time. [editline]1st June 2015[/editline]
if I were to say something; have you considered getting hold of nicotine patches, or gum, or similar such substitutes? that might work better to help you eventually kick the habit.
Patches are less than comfortable, every gum I've tried just tastes like shit. The Niccorette spray mist just gives me a horrible headache. I want to try quitting again at some point but most of these methods are less than stellar for me. The E-Cig is how my dad's managed to quit 60 odd years of being a smoker. I'd like to do that myself but it really doesn't satisfy me as of yet.
It's getting funny to me how simply smoking means, according to Elspin there, you don't shower for a month at a time.
Well, most people who smoke do smell like rancid garbage bins but if you read my post more carefully I was more referring to the smell of someone who's actually smoking, not just someone who smokes. If you're hygienic and don't smoke around other people, great, there's no problem
Yeah this shouldn't even need a judge, take this kid somewhere safe.
We don't know that his mental health problems and drug habits are actually problematic to the child (however likely you may think they are to be) so yeah it should probably need a judge at the very least who can go over all the intricate details.
My dad din't smoke inside when i was a baby, but i am pretty sure he smoked inside when i was 2-4 years old. It was perfectly normal to smoke inside 10-20 years ago, but now they are willing to take your child away over it. By no means i am saying its the wrong or right thing to do, but its fascinating how fast society evolved. EDIT: I guess we did have a lot more ventilation tho.

If something is determined to be harmful why would we keep doing it because "that's the way it was"

Also it is known that smoking dulls one's ability to smell and taste in general.
smoking is p. good fun but not £10 a 20 deck and lung cancer fun [editline]1st June 2015[/editline] also kissing someone after they've had a cigarette is weird and i'm not sure how to feel about it [editline]1st June 2015[/editline] that's my opinions on smoking out the way then
The smell of tobacco smoke is a right pain to clean out so most people don't do it thoroughly enough, and of course if you're out smoking in public then you're going to smell, and so is the smoke. Shit is nasty.
I am honestly okay with smoking tobacco, in moderation of course. It is obvious that smoking a large quantity of cigarettes will give you health problems, but when taken in moderation it won't kill you or others around you. I think it is just a matter of education on the smokers part, they need to know the risks of exposing others and themselves to tobacco products.
Fuck smokers. No I DON'T want to get fucked over by second-hand smoke thank you very much.
Just do it outside.
I don't want to stir up a discussion here but I think its ridiculous that people like this can just give birth to a kid while couples that want to adopt have to commit to almost ridiculous standards.
I don't want to stir up a discussion here but I think its ridiculous that people like this can just give birth to a kid while couples that want to adopt have to commit to almost ridiculous standards.
Because any idiots can go and get pregnant. At least we're putting standards where we can.
This was my childhood, I grew up in clouds of smoke for most of my childhood. Now I smoke, incidentally. It wasn't the reason why however.

Also even moderate smoking still has significant risks: http://circ.ahajournals.org/content/121/13/1518.full
Do you realise how much you all sound like ethnic cleansers? You all rate each other agree as much as you want though in your circlejerk
You're a semi-tolerated junkie, get used to it, at least you get better treatment than people who smoke weed.

Blacks and Native Hawaiians who smoke ≤10 and between 11 and 20 cigarettes per day are more susceptible to lung cancer than whites, Japanese Americans, and Latinos who smoke the same amount of tobacco.
That is weird if there is no error in their methodology. I wonder what's causing that.
Lmao I bet you're such a fucking blast at parties and in the real world.
Am I the only one that finds this attitude to be the most annoying aspect of smokers? Like in reality it's the most boring drug on the planet and does pretty much nothing other than wreck your health but they act like everyone who doesn't smoke is some lifeless prude

If you're at a party, and having a good time, and someone having smoked or currently smoking ruins your time by simply existing, you're probably not a lot of fun to be around because that's a relatively small annoyance to allow to ruin your night. I don't agree with what that guy said, but that's at least an explanation of the view.
That is weird if there is no error in their methodology. I wonder what's causing that.
Genetic differences among different races make people more or less susceptible to developing different types of cancer.

Hey listen I smoke pipe tobacco and the smell isn't as bad as cigarettes but I always remember to step outside before I light up and never do it around children.

I just really like the taste of good tobacco.
